‘The Walking Dead’s Final Season Will Premiere in August

Following the season 10 Negan-centric finale of The Walking Dead, AMC released a short teaser trailer previewing what’s in store for the upcoming 11th – and final – season. The last season of The Walking Dead will premiere on August 22, 2021, kicking off the first batch of eight new episodes.

In total, season 11 will consist of 24 episodes.

“Coming off of the six additional episodes for Season 10, which focused on smaller, character-driven stories, we’re excited to kick off Season 11 bigger than ever,” stated Angela Kang, showrunner and executive producer. “The stakes will be high – we’ll see more zombies, tons of action, intriguing new stories, never-before-seen locations, and our groups together in one community for the first time, trying to rebuild what the Whisperers took from them.”

“The final chapter of The Walking Dead begins with eight action-packed episodes that will feature the massive scope and scale fans have come to expect from TWD Universe, and I’m thrilled to share that fans won’t have to wait long for these incredible new episodes to debut this summer,” said Scott M. Gimple, chief content officer of TWD Universe.

Season 10 of the popular zombie apocalypse series featured Norman Reedus, Ross Marquand, Seth Gilliam, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, Khary Payton, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. According to AMC, the series ranks first among all basic cable shows for the 25-54 age group.

The AMC Studios production is executive produced by Gimple, Kang, Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Dave Alpert, Greg Nicotero, Joseph Incaprera, and Denise Huth.

A Look Back at the Season 10 Extended Episodes Plot:

Last on The Walking Dead, we witnessed the fall of Alpha (Samantha Morton) and the end of the Whisperers War. The Kingdom had fallen, Hilltop was virtually destroyed and Alexandria abandoned to prepare for final battle. Our survivors were trapped and separated from one another. Yet, when faced with almost certain death, they rallied together to fight, killing Beta (Ryan Hurst) and eliminating the threat of the horde.

In these six new episodes, we find our survivors trying to pick themselves up by their bootstraps following the destruction the Whisperers left in their wake. The years of struggle weigh upon them as past traumas surface, exposing their more vulnerable sides. As they question the state of humanity, the state of their collective community, and the states of their minds, will they find the inner strength to persevere with their lives, friendships, and group intact?
