Netflix has set a May premiere date and released the first behind the scenes teaser video for the animated comedy series, Tuca & Bertie. The animated series about two bird best friends features a voice cast led by Tiffany Haddish as Tuca and Ali Wong as Bertie.
The animated comedy was created by Lisa Hanawalt who’s no stranger to animated television shows targeting an adult audience. Hanawalt is joined on the project by fellow BoJack Horseman alumni Raphael Bob-Waksberg, Noel Bright, and Steven A. Cohen – all of whome are on board as executive producers. Tuca & Bertie is produced by Michael Eisner’s The Tornante Company, with ShadowMachine handling the animation.
Joining Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong in the series’ voice cast is The Walking Dead‘s Steven Yeun. Nicole Byer, Richard E. Grant, John Early, Reggie Watts, Tig Notaro, Amber Ruffin, Jermaine Fowler, and Tessa Thompson also lend their voices to animated season one guest stars.
In 2018, Tiffany Haddish won a Primetime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series category for hosting an episode of Saturday Night Live. Her other credits include Nobody’s Fool, Night School, The Oath, Uncle Drew, and All Between Us. Haddish recently completed work on Limited Partners alongside Rose Byrne, Salma Hayek, and Billy Porter.
Ali Wong’s credits include Black Box, Father Figures, and American Housewife. She’s also keeping busy working on Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) starring Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Ewan McGregor.
Netflix has set a Friday, May 3, 2019 premiere date for Tuca & Bertie. Season one consists of 10 episodes.
