CBS announced films is now underway on season two of the summer series Under the Dome starring Mike Vogel, Rachelle Lefevre, Dean Norris, Natalie Martinez, Britt Robertson, Alex Koch, and Colin Ford. Very loosely based on the bestselling book by Stephen King, the series follows the inhabitants of a small town who are cut off from the world after a dome of unknown and perhaps unearthly origin surrounds their city.
Season two is currently shooting in Wilmington, North Carolina. Author King wrote the first episode and series executive producer Jack Bender will direct episode one. King also returns as executive producer along with Steven Spielberg, Neal Baer, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Stacey Snider, and Brian K. Vaughan. CBS has set a June 30, 2014 premiere date for the second season.
Season one averaged 15.06 million viewers and helped prove that audiences will tune into new primetime shows during the hot summer months. Under the Dome earned the title of the most watched “scripted summer series” since 1992.
