Lydia very reluctantly turns to Beetlejuice for help with her daughter, Astrid, in the second official trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The new trailer serves up more of Michael Keaton, which is always a good thing, and shows Astrid being teased about her family’s history with ghosts. And speaking of ghosts, a lot of them show up in trailer #2, too.

Oscar nominee Winona Ryder (Stranger Things) reprises her role as Lydia Deetz and Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek) is back as Delia. Newbies to the Beetlejuice world include Jenna Ortega (Scream 6) as Astrid and Justin Theroux (The Leftovers) as Rory. Monica Bellucci (Spectre), Arthur Conti (House of the Dragon), and Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (Poor Things) also star.

“After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened,” reads Warner Bros Pictures’ synopsis. “With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.”

Tim Burton directs from a screenplay by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, based on characters created by Michael McDowell and Larry Wilson. Burton, Marc Toberoff, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Tommy Harper serve as producers. Executive producers include Sara Desmond, Katterli Frauenfelder, Gough, Millar, Larry Wilson, Laurence Senelick, and Brad Pitt.

Haris Zambarloukos is the director of photography, Mark Scruton is the production designer, and Jay Prychidny is the editor. The much-anticipated sequel’s behind-the-scenes team also includes Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, Oscar-winning creature effects and special makeup FX creative supervisor Neal Scanlan, BAFTA-winning Visual Effects Supervisor Angus Bickerton, Oscar-nominated composer Danny Elfman, and Oscar-winning hair and makeup designer Christine Blundell.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice opens in theaters and IMAX on September 6, 2024.
