‘Divergent’ Preview: Trailer, Plot Details, and Cast

Shailene Woodley stars in Divergent, a sci-fi action drama based on the book series by Veronica Roth. Neil Burger directs from a screenplay by Evan Daugherty and Vanessa Taylor, with Summit Entertainment planning a March 21, 2014 theatrical release.

In addition to Woodley as Tris, the film’s cast includes Theo James as Four, Ashley Judd as Natalie, Jai Courtney as Eric, Ray Stevenson as Marcus, and Zoe Kravitz as Christina. Miles Teller plays Peter, Tony Goldwyn is Andrew, Ansel Elgort is Caleb, Maggie Q is Tori, Mekhi Phifer is Max, and Kate Winslet is Jeanine.

The ensemble also includes Ben Lloyd-Hughes as Will, Christian Madsen as Al, Amy Newbold as Molly, Ben Lamb as Edward, and Elyse Cole as 10-year-old Tris.

Divergent is rated PG-13 for intense violence and action, thematic elements, and some sensuality.

Official Synopsis: Divergent is a thrilling action-adventure film set in a world where people are divided into distinct factions based on human virtues. Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy by a faction leader (Winslet) to destroy all Divergents, Tris must learn to trust in the mysterious Four (James) and together they must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.
