‘Dune: Part 2’ Begins Production with a Targeted November 2023 Release

Dune Part 2 Starts Filming

Production is officially underway on the highly anticipated sequel, Dune: Part 2. Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve returns to direct the Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures production starring Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica Atreides, and Oscar winner Javier Bardem as Stilgar.

Returning cast members include Oscar nominee Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban Harkonnen, Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Mohiam, and Stephen McKinley Henderson as Thufir Hawat. Joining the cast are Austin Butler (Elvis) as the notorious Feyd Rautha and Christopher Walken (Severence) as the Emperor. Florence Pugh (Black Widow) as Princess Irulan, Léa Seydoux (Crimes of the Future), and Souheila Yacoub (No Man’s Land series) also star.

Denis Villeneuve and Jon Spaihts co-wrote the screenplay, based on Frank Herbert’s iconic sci-fi novel. Filming will take place in Budapest, Abu Dhabi, Jordan, and Italy.

Villeneuve’s behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Greig Fraser, costume designer Jacqueline West, and makeup, hair and prosthetic designer Donald Mowat. Oscar-winner Hans Zimmer is returning to the Dune world as composer. Production designer Patrice Vermette, editor Joe Walker, visual effects supervisor Paul Lambert, and special effects supervisor Gerd Nefzer are also on board.

Dune opened on October 22, 2021. Dune: Part Two will be released in theaters on November 17, 2023.

Warner Bros released the following description of the Dune sequel:

“This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”
