The most interesting thing about Pixar’s Elio is how completely different the official trailer is from the teaser released in June 2023. Watch that one first, then check out the new one, and it’s like watching two different stories with some of the same characters.
Yonas Kibreab provides the voice of Elio and new Oscar winner Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Perez) is Aunt Olga. The voice cast also includes Remy Edgerly as Glordon, Brad Garrett as Lord Grigon, Jameela Jamil as Ambassador Questa, and Shirley Henderson as OOOOO. America Ferrera was originally announced to play Elio’s mom, but Ferrera exited the project due to scheduling conflicts.
“For centuries, people have called out to the universe looking for answers—in Disney and Pixar’s all-new feature film Elio, the universe calls back! The cosmic misadventure introduces Elio, a space fanatic with an active imagination and a huge alien obsession. So, when he’s beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide, Elio’s all in for the epic undertaking,” reads Pixar’s synopsis. “Mistakenly identified as Earth’s leader, Elio must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms, navigate a crisis of intergalactic proportions, and somehow discover who and where he is truly meant to be.”
Madeline Sharafian, Domee Shi, and Adrian Molina direct, and Mary Alice Drumm serves as a producer.
Disney and Pixar have set a June 20, 2025 theatrical release date.
