The Weinstein Company’s just debuted a new trailer for Lion, based on a true story and directed by Garth Davis (Top of the Lake). The film’s one of the year’s best and features terrific performances by the entire ensemble, led by young Sunny Pawar and Dev Patel. Lion was released in limited theaters in November and will open in wide release on Christmas Day.
Luke Davies adapted Saroo Brierley’s book A Long Way Home for the screen. In addition to Patel and Pawal, the cast includes Nicole Kidman, Rooney Mara, and David Wenham. Emile Sherman, Iain Canning, and Angie Fielder produced the PG-13 drama.
The Lion Plot: Five year old Saroo gets lost on a train which takes him thousands of miles across India, away from home and family. Saroo must learn to survive alone in Kolkata, before ultimately being adopted by an Australian couple. Twenty five years later, armed with only a handful of memories, his unwavering determination, and a revolutionary technology known as Google Earth, he sets out to find his lost family and finally return to his first home.
