Shailene Woodley earned rave reviews and awards recognition (including a Golden Globe nomination and a Spirit Award win) for her breakthrough performance in 2011’s The Descendants opposite George Clooney. Woodley followed that up with a starring role in The Spectacular Now, an indie coming-of-age tale that earned her further awards recognition. Now, Woodley’s tackling her biggest project to date: the starring role in Divergent.

Based on the bestselling young adult series by Veronica Roth, Divergent finds Woodley playing ‘Tris,’ a teenager caught between loyalty to her family and forging her own path that will lead to a completely different future. And in this interview courtesy of Summit Entertainment (the studio behind the Twilight films), Woodley discusses her character, the set, working with director Neil Burger, and what audiences can expect from the latest adaptation of a young adult book series.

The Plot:

Divergent is an action-adventure film set in a future where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.
