Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Breaking Bad Top the Saturn Awards

Saturn Award TrophyJ.J. Abrams sci-fi adventure Super 8 and the prequel to the Planet of the Apes movie, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, each earned three Saturn Awards at the 38th annual event held July 26, 2012. On the television side, it was Breaking Bad and Fringe that proved to be this year’s big winners.

The Saturn Awards were created to honor genre entertainment often overlooked by other awards shows. Since its creation 40 years ago, the Saturn Awards have expanded to include other genres, adding the best of television and home entertainment to its roster of awards given out annually.

“In one of the most rewarding years ever for genre entertainment, these films and TV shows proved that imagination, creativity and technology are blending in extraordinary ways, allowing these previously specialized genres to become the very heart of the entertainment industry,” said Academy President Robert Holguin.
