Screen Media has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to Clara, a sci-fi drama starring SuitsPatrick J. Adams and Pretty Little Liars‘ Troian Bellisario. The film has already finished its festival run, screening at both the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival and the Austin Film Festival. The Austin festival awarded the sci-fi movie the Best Narrative Feature Film prize.

“Following an amazing international festival tour, I’m incredibly excited to finally be able to share Clara with audiences in the U.S,” stated writer/director Akash Sherman. “This is a film that aims to speak to both mind and heart, and which, I hope, challenges audiences to consider some big questions about science and space, and the cosmic nature of human connection. I look forward to working with the team at Screen Media to bring Clara to both film-lovers and space-lovers across the country!”

Clara amazed us in so many ways,” added Seth Needle, SVP, Worldwide Acquisitions at Screen Media. “From the strong filmmaking to the complex, engaging story to the emotional performances. All of it shows why Akash is one of the best young filmmakers to watch today. We’re so happy to be working with him, Ari and the rest of the team.”

The cast also includes Ennis Esmer, Kristen Hager and RH Thomson. Ari Lantos produced and Anant Singh executive produced. The behind the scenes team includes director of photography Nick Haight, editor Matt Lyon, production designer Chris Crane, costume designer Kendra Terpenning, and art director Karis Malszecki. Jonathon Kawchuk provided the film’s score.

Screen Media is targeting a May 2019 theatrical release date for Clara.
