HBO Renews Game of Thrones for Season 4

In some of the least shocking renewal news you’ll ever hear, HBO has confirmed Game of Thrones will return for season four. HBO Programming President Michael Lombardo made the announcement which was fully expected given the show’s stellar season three premiere numbers.
 
Season three premiered on March 31, 2013 to the highest viewership to date. According to the network, the first episode of Game of Thrones season three averaged 4.4 million viewers at 9pm which is up 4% over the previous series high of 4.2 million viewers (2012’s finale numbers). Season four’s premiere was also up 13% over season three’s first episode. And over the show’s three airings on March 31st, a total of 6.7 million viewers tuned in (up 7% over season two’s premiere).
 
Season three will run for 10 episodes, airing a new episode each Sunday night at 9pm.

HBO2 playdates: April 8 (9:00 p.m.), 11 (11:00 p.m.), 12 (midnight), 14 (4:00 p.m.) and 19 (11:00 p.m.)
