The musical romance Song One has been acquired by Cinedigm Corp and The Film Arcade and will be heading to theaters this fall. Song One stars Anne Hathaway, Ben Rosenfield, Johnny Flynn, and Mary Steenburgen, and was written and directed by Kate Barker-Froyland. Barker-Froyland made her feature film directorial debut with Song One.

“We love the authenticity of the family relationships, the romantic chemistry of the leads and the incredible role the original music plays in Kate’s film,” said The Film Arcade’s Andy Bohn and Vincent Scordino, Senior Vice President of Theatrical Releasing, for Cinedigm.

“Every song conveys a unique feeling, chosen carefully to fit each scene,” said Barker-Froyland, commenting on the importance of music in the film. “We recorded all the music live so performances of many wonderful musicians and singers are captured in the moment. Songwriters Jenny Lewis and Johnathan Rice were the perfect people to tell the stories of James and Henry through their music.”

The Plot:

Anne Hathaway stars as Franny, an anthropologist doing research in Morocco, who returns to New York when her musician brother Henry (Rosenfield) suffers an accident and falls into a coma. As she reconnects with her brother and mother (Steenburgen), Franny seeks out musicians that her brother loved. Among them is James Forester (Flynn), Henry’s musical idol, whose success and fame belie a shy and private man. A strong romantic connection sparks between Franny and James, set against the backdrop of Brooklyn’s modern folk music scene.
