‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 Episode 3 Recap: Who Survived the Battle at Winterfell?

In case you missed last week’s episode of Game of Thrones (Seriously? What are you doing here? Go now!), we spent a relaxing evening at Winterfell sitting around the fire, telling tales, singing songs and waiting for the Night King to arrive to get the party started.

No one died, there was no bloodshed, and nary a dragon in sight. It was quite literally the calm-before-the-storm. That’s not to say that nothing happened. No, quite the contrary. Arya (Maisie Williams) proved to the world (and especially Gendry [Joe Dempsie]) that she’s all grown up now. The interwebz had much to say about that scene, but bottom line, Arya got to reclaim a bit of her humanity and enjoy the warmth of another person for one freakin’ night in her tragic life.

Tormund (Kristofer Hivju) and Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) vied for Brienne’s attentions (Jaime totally won when he made her a knight. I will watch that scene over and over again.) Pod showed off yet another hidden skill, Grey Worm and Missendei made plans, Jon spilled the tea all over Dany, and we were told that the crypts beneath Winterfell are the safest place to be during the battle so often that it can’t possibly be true.

As for all those questions to which we need answers, tonight there are really only two that matter. The first concerns those crypts. Are they really safe? Will the Night King raise all of the dead entombed therein? The internet has been buzzing all week and everyone and their brother has a theory. Personally, I think that if, IF, the Stark dead come to life (we don’t even know if they can since most would only be skeletons at this point. The freshest would be Rickon), they won’t be fighting in the Night King’s army. The Starks have known about White Walkers for centuries and have planned for this eventuality. They had to have been buried with their swords for a reason, right? I’m choosing to believe the theory that if the Starks arise, it will be to protect their family.

The second question is, who will die tonight (season eight episode three)? As nice as it was to spend time last week with characters we’ve grown to know and love, it felt like we were saying goodbye to a few of them. I’m no happier about it than you are, unless you’re one of those people who always thought Game of Thrones had too many characters, but we’ve been building to this battle for nearly 10 years and this show has never been shy about “killing its darlings.” I could give a toss about who gets to sit The Big Chair until I know who’s safe after tonight! Who will survive the epic Battle of Winterfell?!

Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson) might as well have “dead meat” stamped on his forehead after he dared to make plans with the love of his life. Speaking of whom, if the wights don’t get Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel), she’ll probably throw herself on G.W’s pyre.

Pod (Daniel Portman) may be better at “soldiering” than when he left King’s Landing with Brienne, but I think his lovely song in last week’s episode was his finale.

Edd (Ben Crompton) and Beric (Richard Dormer) are both probably goners. They survived the fall of the Wall and got themselves to Winterfell just so they could be targets in the big battle. Beric will have to pass on a trick or two to the other character brought back to life by the Lord of Light first. He’ll need that flaming sword.

I suspect Hannah Murray’s Gilly (but not Sam) gets it too. Unless of course, the crypts really are safe.

Little Alys Karstark (Meghan Parkinson) and fan-favorite Lady Lyanna Mormont (Bella Ramsey) are probably goners. Lord Umber was killed in the first episode and he was younger than both of them.

And it pains me to type this, it really does, but I believe Ser Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) is a goner. Last week was such a fitting end to her arc that this battle will be her last. I also think she dies in Jaime’s arms. (Okay, I’m hoping so. If she has to go, that has to happen.)

I’ve also prepared myself to lose Ser Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen). He has the Tarly Valyrian steel sword, which I think will allow him to cut down a lot of dead things before he goes, but his redemption is now complete.

I could be completely wrong about any or all of these characters and there are surely more who will be lost. Was Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) really the wisest choice to sit in the open and guard Bran? Oh, the humanity!

As Sansa “Thank u next” Stark (Sophie Turner) so gravelly put it in the episode three preview, “The most heroic thing we can do now, is look the truth in the face.” Buckle up, here we go!

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 3 Recap:

We open on Samwell Tarly’s shaking hands as he’s handed a dragon glass dagger. Continued preparations are happening all around him. We hear Lyanna Mormont yelling commands to her troops.

Sam gives way to Tyrion who prepares to go below to the crypts while Bran is being wheeled by Theon out to the Godswood.

Sansa and Arya are together on the battlements as the dragons fly overhead. The Unsullied march out to the front lines. Pod is next to Brienne. There’s Gendry. Sam joins Edd. We see Jorah and Ghost. All is quiet. Too quiet.

Jon (Kit Harington) joins Dany (Emilia Clarke) as they overlook the field where their warriors wait. (Why does this show have to use natural light. It’s so damn dark.)

Melisandre (Clarice van Houten) has arrived! Just rides right up to Jorah and tells him to have the Dothraki lift their swords. She takes a weapon from a Dothraki warrior and says some words in a language that may be Dothraki? And then all the swords burst into flame! It becomes a field of fire! (Edd looks impressed.)

Davos (Liam Cunningham) yells for the gates to be opened and Melisandre is admitted to the inner courtyard of Winterfell. She tells him, “There’s no need to execute me, Ser Davos. I’ll be dead before the dawn.” She and Arya exchange a look. (I know they met a long time ago, but I do not remember the circumstances.)

It’s on! The army, led by Dothraki Screamers, is charging forward with their flaming swords! Ghost is running alongside Jorah!

Suddenly a cease-fire is called. It’s quiet again. And dark. Very, very dark. We hear the sound of horses. Riders pass by but it’s impossible to make out who they are.

Up on their perch, Jon tells Dany the Night King is coming. She jerks her hand away from his and bites out, “The dead are already here.” Guess she’s still pissed about that whole “last male heir to the Seven Kingdoms” thing.

We see the faces of Tormund, The Hound, Pod, and Grey Worm as they listen to the unholy sounds of the Army of the Dead. The Unsullied are overrun! Their spears are like tooth pics to White Walkers!

Tormund is in the thick of things as Brienne yells, “Stand your ground!” It sounds like the undead are devouring whatever is in their path. It’s chaos but Jaime hears Brienne cry out and runs to find her.

Dany’s on a dragon! Drogon is burning a path through the undead! Jon’s on Rhaegal! They are scorching the earth while Sansa and Arya watch from the walls. The winds of winter, plus the smoke from the fire, are making it difficult for Dany and Jon to see.

Arya tells Sansa to get to the crypt. Sansa says she won’t abandon her people, but Arya insists and hands her the dagger made of dragon glass! (She still has her special Gendry-made weapon.) Sansa says she doesn’t know how to use it. Arya responds with “stick ‘em with the pointy end.” Nice call back!

More chaos. Edd saves Sam from a wight and as soon as Sam gets up, Edd is killed!

Sansa arrives down in the crypt. Missandei is there, along with Tyrion who appears so ashamed that he’s not fighting, he’s drinking heavily. (Or maybe just because he’s smart.)

Jon and Rhaegal and Dany and Drogon are still having trouble. They’re hitting the tops of trees. If these dragons were planes, they’d be crashed by now.

On the ground, Tormund and then Brienne are calling for their troops to “pull back.” Lyanna Mormont is yelling for the gates to be opened. What’s left of the armies rush inside. Grey Worm (who is miraculously still alive at this point) orders the Unsullied to “protect the retreat” and to “stand your ground!” They are all that stands between the undead and the living as they continue to seek shelter behind the walls of the castle.

Jon and Dany are still in the air, but we cut to the Godswood to see Bran waiting patiently. All of our people are still alive and accounted for at this point, but the wights are making progress. Arya shoots a flaming arrow from the battlements and saves The Hound. Lyanna wants the gates protected.

Grey Worm yells, “Light the trench!” and Ser Davos above gives a signal. The trenches are raised and some are set on fire, but there are wights behind the trenches. Melisandre walks out of the gates, grasps the wood, and calls to the Lord of Light. The rest of the trenches burst into flame. Oh good, Beric and Jorah are still with us. Sandor Clegane retreats away from the fire.

Down in the crypt, Varys (Conleth Hill) is cracking wise. “At least we’re already in the crypt.” Tyrion says, “If we were up there, I’d see something everyone else is missing. I could make a difference.” Sansa is skeptical. She thinks he’d die. This is where the line from the preview comes in. She tells Tyrion that despite what he believes his abilities to be, that’s the truth and it’s heroic to be in the crypts. They discuss what might have been between them, but Sansa tells Tyrion it would never work because of the “Dragon Queen.” “Your divided loyalties would come become a problem.”

Missandei is not pleased with this conversation. “Yes, without the Dragon Queen, there’d be no problem at all. We’d all be dead already.”

Back in the Godswood, Theon is stating the obvious to someone who sees all. He takes the opportunity to apologize to Bran, but All-Seeing Bran stops him with, “Everything you did brought you to where you are now. Home.” Which sounds nice, but he follows that up with, “I’m going to go now.” And he wargs into a raven. Or a bunch of ravens (A murder of ravens?) to look over the battlefield and find the Night King.

The trenches are burning but the wights are starting to defy the flames! They aren’t burning! They’re forging a path for others to get by and then scaling the castle walls. Everyone’s screaming “burn the walls!” but will it do any good? Remember I said most of our favorites were still alive? Well, they’re inside the castle! Are they about to be trapped?

Gendry, Jaime, and Sam are trying to stave off the assault. The castle is completely surrounded and the undead are coming over the walls!

Sandor (Rory McCann) is hiding from the fire as Arya is killing wights left and right.

The giant wight swats Lyanna Mormont like a pesky fly. No! She gets up and runs right at him! He picks her up and we can hear her tough little bones break as he opens his mouth to chomp on her head. But before she dies, she stabs him in the eye with dragon glass and they both fall. The littlest living warrior killed the biggest undead! RIP Lady Lyanna!

Dany and Jon are still flying. Now they’re above the clouds and the smoke and the chaos. It’s quiet for a moment. Holy crap here comes Viserion breathing blue fire! He looks like he’s going to take out one or both of his brothers, but then he doesn’t. He flies away!

Arya (looking a lot worse for wear) is stealthily moving around the castle. She’s down in the forge. Someone’s in there with her. Is it a White Walker? She’s bleeding! There are a lot of them! This is the scene in the trailer! Arya is running! She seems to have lost her weapon! Will she make it to the crypts? Will she bring the undead with her?!

It’s quiet in the crypt and then the sound of wights tearing into people who are trying to get in. Then nothing.

The Hound and Beric (sword still blazing) are searching the castle for wights. Arya is under attack! Beric throws his sword and saves her but now he’s done for. The Hound picks Arya up and gets them out of there. Beric dies. Melisandre is there to tell Arya that he’s served his purpose. She tells Arya that her work is not done.

Theon is still standing guard over warging Bran. He and his men light their arrows to “make every shot count.” They are overrun.

The Night King is riding Viserion who is breathing blue fire on Winterfell. Rhaegal and Viserion are having a mid-air battle with Jon still on board! The Night King is tossed off and falls. He can’t be dead. He’s already dead. Jon is tossed off of Rhaegal. Dany is still on Drogon. She finds the Night King and says, “Dracarys!” The Night King appears to burn. Was it that easy?

Hell NO! He’s still standing! Jon and NK appear to be heading for a showdown! Jon has his Valyrian steel sword. Will that do it? He runs toward him as the Night King raises his arms. Suddenly all of the soldiers killed in battle are back and Jon is surrounded!

Jaime, Brienne, Tormund, Sam, and Gendry are still alive. And guess who’s back? Lady Lyanna! Seven Hells! Here come the White Walkers!

Down in the crypt babies are crying and things are trying to get in!

Theon is fighting bravely in the Godswood.

Jon is fighting a losing battle until Dany arrives with fire-breathing Drogon. He tells her to run and she refuses. The undead are attacking her dragon! Dany is down! Holy crap, Ser Jorah saves Dany!

Jon is back inside the walls. Now Sam is under attack! So is Brienne!

Theon is fighting off the undead alone.

Jorah is protecting Dany alone.

The undead are in the crypt. Sansa and Tyrion are hiding. They share a loving, farewell look. Sansa has the dragon glass dagger, but Tyrion has nothing. He leaves her to join the fray anyway. He nods farewell to Varys.

The battle is everywhere. The Night King is inside the walls of Winterfell! How is anyone going to live through this?!

Theon is somehow still standing beside Bran, but then the Night King arrives. Bran tells Theon he’s a good man and thanks him for protecting him. Theon has tears in his eyes. He knows the gig is up. He charges the Night King. And Theon is dead. (For the moment.)

Viserion is still breathing blue fire all over the castle. We see Jon alive. Then Jorah and Dany. Jorah is mortally wounded but refusing to give up.

NK is slowly stalking toward Bran. Bran turns to look at him. Cut to Jon gathering his courage to face Viserion. Back to the Night King as he begins to draw his sword. Suddenly it’s Arya! She’s jumped on NK and is preparing to stab him with the Valyrian dagger (the one Bran gave her that belonged to Petyr Baelish) when he grabs her by the throat. It looks like he knocks the dagger from her hand, but she catches it! Arya stabs the Night King!

Holy crap! Arya has killed the Night King! He shatters into a million shards. Suddenly White Walkers and wights are shattering and/or just dropping like flies everywhere!

Dany and Ser Jorah are saved, but Jorah falls to the ground.

Most of those in the crypt are fine. No undead coming to life there. Arya and Bran are together. But damn it! Jorah is dying in front of Daenerys as her dragon watches over them.

Melisandre walks out of the castle through the sea of truly dead dead as Ser Davos follows her. She removes her necklace as he watches. We know that means she’s now returned to her true form and decided to die.

And then it’s fade to black! This means we need to wait another week to get a true accounting of who’s truly left standing! Jon and Dany and Sansa and Arya and Bran sure, but what about the others?!

According to the preview Missandei and Varys made it, but what about Jaime (likely) and Brienne and Sam (probably) and Tyrion (again, probably)? Is Grey Worm really still alive? (Ghost is glimpsed in the episode four trailer in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-him clip.)

Oh well, on to the next war! I cannot believe we’re already at the half-way point of this final season! Gah!

A couple memorable lines from season 8, episode 3 of Game of Thrones (honestly I was too caught up to catch many):

Melisandre: “Valar Morghulis”
Grey Worm: “Valar Dohaeris”

Tyrion: “Maybe we should have stayed married.”
Sansa: “You were the best of them.”
Tyrion: “What a terrifying thought.”

Melisandre: “What do we say to the God of Death?”
Arya: “Not today.”

Avengers: Endgame, the 22nd film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, exploded onto the screens with a record-breaking first weekend. Experts had estimated the much-anticipated epic superhero’s opening weekend could reach $300 million domestically, and it easily accomplished that feat. Marvel Studios reports Endgame rang up $350 million domestically and an additional $859 million internationally for a historic $1.2 billion bow.

“We poured our heart and soul into Avengers: Endgame, hoping to tell a story that would inspire audiences around the world. Our family of cast and crew felt honored to be entrusted with bringing the Infinity Saga to a close. To Kevin Feige, everyone at Disney and Marvel, and the incredible, global community of fans – thank you,” said directors Joe and Anthony Russo.

Avengers: Endgame now stands as the first movie ever to pass the $1 billion mark over its opening weekend.

“From the very beginning with Iron Man, all we’ve wanted to do was tell stories that brought these characters to life onscreen the way we’ve experienced them as fans of the comics,” stated Kevin Feige, President, Marvel Studios. “That we’ve had so many other successes in this journey leading to this unbelievable result with Avengers: Endgame has been almost entirely due to the fans around the world who have supported us through it all. Our directors, Anthony and Joe Russo, and our writers, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, really brought this story home, and I am also incredibly thankful for our cast and filmmakers from across the MCU and all who’ve worked so hard to make these films the best they can be, including the amazing teams at Marvel Studios and Disney. And of course, without Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, none of this would have been possible.”

“Kevin Feige and the Marvel Studios team have continued to challenge notions of what is possible at the movie theatre both in terms of storytelling and at the box office,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. “Though Endgame is far from an end for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, these first 22 films constitute a sprawling achievement, and this weekend’s monumental success is a testament to the world they’ve envisioned, the talent involved, and their collective passion, matched by the irrepressible enthusiasm of fans around the world.”

The PG-13 rated conclusion to this phase of the MCU entered theaters with a 96% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. Cinemascore reports audiences awarded Avengers: Endgame an A+ average score.

‘Supernatural’ Season 14 Finale Recap: Episode 20 – “Moriah”

Supernatural Season 14 Episode 20

There’s no doubt now that Supernatural is heading into its final season. The penultimate season’s finale finally told us why everything bad that’s ever happened in the world – more specifically to Sam and Dean – hasn’t been undone in a snap by God. Supernatural season 14 episode 20 (“Moriah”) serves as the first serving to what is most certainly the beginning of the end.

We start off with Jack (Alexander Calvert) fleeing the Ma’lak box, deciding not to kill his captors. However, Dean (Jensen Ackles) is once again obsessed with killing Jack and tells Castiel (Misha Collins) to leave if he’s not on board, and Castiel promptly exits. Sam (Jared Padalecki) isn’t happy with Dean’s plan to kill Jack using a soul bomb (remember Season 11’s finale where they almost used one to kill Amara?) and quietly accompanies him without voicing his disapproval.

Jack is shown in a crowded street where his anger with the overwhelming amount of people lying sees him literally make people only tell the truth à la Liar Liar style. Sam’s plan to use a facial recognition business’ intel to track Jack ends in failure as the entire office – and the world as well – falls into chaos as everyone begins attacking one another since no one can lie and dark secrets are coming out, like Sam revealing his favorite singer is Celine Dion.

The brothers take shelter in an office room where the news channel informs them of the chaos erupting everywhere, with the President evidently having revealed he only won the election because he made a deal with someone called Crowley. (Oh yes, what else could we have expected from that fallen charming demon, anyway?)

Among other even bigger events: Chuck (Rob Benedict) is back! He shows up when Castiel tries to use demons to go to hell and transports Cas to the Winchesters. Dean isn’t too happy with Chuck’s brazen attitude (seriously, Chuck’s so prissy it’s like he’s Posh Spice) and destroys Chuck’s guitar – for which we applaud Dean since he saved us from having to listen to Chuck’s godawful music skills. However, this infuriates him and he takes everyone back to the Men of Letters HQ. After none of the heroes are having any of Chuck’s lame jokes, he explains he’s been off with Amara – who is apparently in Reno at the moment – to see the cosmos, as well as Springsteen on Broadway.

Chuck references all of season seven and season 12’s events which, like most Supernatural fans, he finds rather weak in storytelling and he only arrives when things go Apocalyptic. In order to illustrate his point, he snaps everything back to before they went south. But Chuck isn’t there to fix solutions easy, he wants Dean to take Jack out for good. And he supplies the vengeful Winchester with the ultimate weapon: a gun. It’s not just any weapon, though, as that gun can kill anything in existence. It doesn’t even need bullets as it works off of some kind of quantum energy which basically means that the one who fires the round dies the same way as their victim. So, Dean would be killing himself along with Jack.

Once again, Castiel is the only sane man (and yes, he’s officially my favorite character on the show) who proposes they figure stuff out by temporarily sealing Jack; he still loves him and doesn’t want to kill the boy. Chuck says that souls are complicated and even he can’t bring back Jack’s soul, and Dean figures that’s a good enough answer for him to go ahead with killing Jack. Dean tells Castiel he doesn’t care if Cas doesn’t want to kill Jack, and he can leave if he doesn’t agree. Like before, Castiel walks away rather than help in such an insane and heartless plan.

Later on, Sam finally turns down Dean after having gone along with every one of his vengeful plans for Jack, and tells him he doesn’t want to kill the boy. Sam argues that Jack couldn’t control himself for killing Mary because he doesn’t have a soul and that he burned the soul off in the first place because he was saving the Winchesters – basically, he says everything the audience has been screaming at the writers for weeks. Sam tells Dean with finality that he’s against the idea and he won’t allow it, to which Dean still doesn’t appear fazed.

Meanwhile, Jack goes to visit his grandparents as he once had, only this time his grandmother is hardly welcoming. She tells Jack they looked him up and his previous claim of being Kelly’s friend was a lie and that they know Kelly is dead. A hysterical grandma screams at Jack – reminiscent of Mary – and Jack seemingly kills her like he did Mary, or so it is made to look initially. In actuality, Jack simply left without doing anything.

Supernatural Season 14 Episode 20

Jack meets a distraught Castiel, whose first action is to hug his beloved boy (really, there’s no one better than Cas on this show), but Jack tells him that even though he wants to love Castiel back, he just doesn’t feel anything anymore.

At the HQ, Chuck is acting like an idiot and playing around with the archangel blade as if it’s a kid’s play toy. He tells Sam with a clear hint of arrogance how all the worlds he’s made were failures – there were ones which were in reverse, one where there was no yellow, and even one whose inhabitants were only squirrels! As it turns out, Alternate Michael was right all along and Chuck doesn’t give two hoots about any of the worlds he’s made. He’s just a writer who tosses out a failed manuscript in favor of Sam and Dean.

Chuck tells an appalled Sam that this version of the Winchesters is his favorite and he revels in watching all the horrible things that happen to them since it’s so entertaining. When Sam cuts him off saying he could’ve just fixed everything if he knew all that was going on, Chuck argues he is fixing it by transporting Dean over to where Cas and Jack are. Sam scrambles over to the cemetery to stop Dean from taking Jack’s life (and now Sam’s definitely my favorite Winchester).

At the cemetery, Castiel is ready to potentially kill Dean and tells Jack to run, but Jack instead flings Castiel aside and claims he’s tired of running. He falls to his knees and tells Dean to just end it; he understands he’s a monster who can’t be contained. In what seems to be something out of the ending to an epic movie, Sam is shown racing toward the confrontation, shouting at Dean to stop as Castiel watches helplessly nearby. However, when Sam does reach them, Dean tells him to back off since he’s decided to end it.

The real horrific sight of it all is Chuck appearing beside Sam: he has a look of maddening glee on his face. Chuck refuses to stop Dean and instead goads him into killing Jack for what he did. Dean, though, for once doesn’t infuriate the viewer and tosses the gun aside. He also turns down Chuck’s proposal of bringing back Mary if Dean goes through with killing Jack. It’s time for Chuck to lose his cool as he berates Dean for stopping the poetic end to the story where the father kills the son, or when Abraham was going to kill Isaac. This is how it is supposed to be, and Dean’s ruining it. Sam realizes Chuck has never cared for anything that’s ever happened; not to Lucifer, to Michael, to anyone who has suffered, and certainly not to the Winchesters.

The heroes call Chuck out for wanting them to suffer and die over and over again as he sees it as a story, but it’s their lives and they’re done being victims. Dean tells Chuck, “God or no God, you can go to Hell.” This causes Chuck to reach the end of his tether, and he snaps his finger to cause Jack’s eyes to burn out, killing him. He says story’s over and begins to leave; an enraged Sam picks up the gun and shoots Chuck.

Turns out the gun doesn’t work on God, but it does piss him off to the point where all bets are all off – literally, every single one. The end is here. Chuck snaps them to a darkened version of the cemetery, where a heartbroken Castiel crouches over Jack’s corpse. In the Empty, Jack wakes up to find the Shadow smiling at finally gaining his prize, but Billie – the new Death – is there as well, telling Jack they should talk.

Back at the cemetery, all hell breaks loose as every monster, demon, ghost, or anything else Sam and Dean took out has been released – all the way back from the Pilot as we see the Woman in White back to haunting the street she used to be on. Not only that, we also see John Wayne Gacy’s ghost return, and Bloody Mary haunting mirrors once more. To make matters worse, zombies emerge from their graves and hundreds of them attack the heroes at the same time. And that’s the end of the fourteenth season.

The finale was the perfect way to finish off 14 years of storytelling. I’ve been very vocal about how much I hated Chuck, since he put on the demeanor of a nice guy, but his actions were always apathetic. He never solved the things that were easy for him to solve, and didn’t even care about his sons being tortured in Hell. Chuck’s reveal as the ultimate villain to the story validates all the times he’s been an awful god since, well, he is supposed to be an awful god.

The final season has now been set up as the battle of the Winchesters against God himself, but the show has almost always tended to change the storyline they head into a season with into something that we didn’t foresee, so it remains to be seen if God really will be the final Big Bad of the series. For now, though, we’re all hyped to see what Supernatural can pull off for its final season. Carry on Wayward Fans!

‘90210’ Event Series Adds Another Original Cast Member: Shannen Doherty

90210 Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty
Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty in the original ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’

Shannen Doherty is a late addition to the upcoming 90210 event series cast. Fox just announced original Beverly Hills, 90210 cast member Shannen Doherty has signed on to the six episode series, BH90210, which will air this summer.

Doherty joins a cast that includes Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green, and Tori Spelling. Doherty, the most controversial member of the original series, is also boarding the series as an executive producer. Carteris, Garth, Green, Priestley, Spelling, Ziering, Chris Alberghini, Mike Chessler, and Patrick Sean Smith are also serving as executive producers.

Doherty earned a bad reputation during the original show’s run, feuding with co-star Jennie Garth. Doherty’s time on the series was cut short, ending with its fourth season. 90210 ultimately ran for 10 seasons from 1990 to 2000.

In addition to 90210, Doherty’s credits include Heathers, Mallrats, and the original Charmed series. Doherty reprised her role as Brenda Walsh in seven episodes of the 90210 reboot in 2008 and 2009.

The Plot:

90210 comes with a big twist: Priestley, Garth, Ziering, Carteris, Green, Spelling, and Doherty will play heightened versions of themselves in a brand-new serialized drama – with a healthy dose of irreverence – that is inspired by their real lives and relationships.

Having gone their separate ways since the original series ended 19 years ago, Jason, Jennie, Ian, Gabrielle, Brian and Tori reunite when one of them suggests it’s time to get a Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot up and running. But getting it going may make for an even more delicious soap than the reboot itself. What will happen when first loves, old romances, friends and frenemies come back together, as this iconic cast – whom the whole world watched grow up together – attempts to continue from where they left off?

Spawning generations of imitators, Beverly Hills, 90210 premiered on FOX on October 4, 1990, when it became an instant pop culture sensation and one of the most adored programs in the network’s history. Centered on the tony Los Angeles community identified in its title, the show aired for 10 seasons, during which it documented the trials and tribulations of a group of friends from high school to college and into early adulthood, as they navigated a myriad of coming-of-age dramas and complex rivalries, often making real-world headlines by tackling controversial and socially relevant topics.

Review: ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Brings Closure to the Superhero Team

Avengers: Endgame
Hawkeye/Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner), War Machine/James Rhodes (Don Cheadle), Ant-Man/Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper), Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Captain America/Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ (Photo © Marvel Studios 2019)

“Even if there’s a small chance that we can undo this, we owe it to everyone not in this room to try,” says Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson). “If we do this, how do we know it’s going to end any differently than it did before?” asks Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo). “Because before you didn’t have me,” answers Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) who has joined what’s left of the Avengers to take on Thanos (Josh Brolin) in the highly anticipated film finale of this phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Endgame.

Everyone’s grieving after losing to Thanos at the end of Infinity War. Thanos snapped his fingers while wearing a glove with the six Infinity Stones and wiped out half of the population on Earth, including members of the Avengers and their families. Beaten, battered, and still in mourning, Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans), Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Clint Barton/Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and what’s left of the Avengers and their allies assemble once again to take on Thanos. Their mission: try to undo Thanos’ horrific actions and bring everyone they lost back…whatever it takes.

Epic, stirring, and full of pathos, Avengers: Endgame is an incredibly entertaining, humorous, and poignant film that brings the Avengers saga to a very satisfying and touching end. The film brings back the surviving Avengers for one last desperate attempt to take out the evil space lord Thanos and to bring back everyone they lost.

Robert Downey Jr. once again shines as Tony Stark/Iron Man who’s taking the loss of his friends, especially the web-slinging “kid,” extremely hard. Stark is filled with anger, resentment, and mostly sadness, and Downey Jr. displays all of these emotions brilliantly. Credit must be given where credit is due; the Marvel films wouldn’t have been the success they are without Robert Downey Jr. in the pivotal role of Iron Man from the beginning.

Scarlett Johansson delivers her most powerful and moving performance as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow. Romanoff can’t seem to get over the gigantic loss to Thanos and is the first of the team to be completely on board with doing “whatever it takes” to bring everyone back. This is a little softer and more emotional Black Widow than the audience is used to. She desperately wants to bring those she lost back and hold onto those she still has with her, who she considers family. It’s perhaps Johansson’s most touching and best performance on film.

Jeremy Renner is back as Hawkeye, who was missing in Infinity War, to team up with his old friends on the fight of their lives. Renner displays both sides of Hawkeye: the love he has for his family and his cold and lethal side when taking out those deemed unworthy to be breathing air. Renner has wonderful chemistry with Johansson and their scenes together as Hawkeye and Black Widow are filled with energy and emotion.

Karen Gillan reprises her role of Nebula, the once devoted daughter to Thanos who now sides with the Avengers. Gillan is wonderful at conveying so much under the blue coating she wears and all the CGI effects which give Nebula her look. Gillan shows subtly the budding friendship she feels toward Stark and Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper), and the pain of losing her sister, Gamora.

Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth. and Paul Rudd as Bruce Banner/ Hulk, Thor and Scott Lang/Ant-Man infuse most of the needed humor and levity to the film. Particularly laugh-inducing is Hemsworth’s take on Thor in this outing, but that’s all that can be written here about it.

The action scenes are fast-paced, thrilling, and impressive, especially the battle near the end of the film which is both colossal and heart-wrenching. It’s one of the best superhero fight scenes in cinematic history.

With soul-stirring action scenes, touching and heartfelt moments, humor and outstanding performances, Avengers: Endgame is an excellent end to this chapter of the Marvel saga.
