Writer/director M. Night Shyamalan confirmed he’s bringing the cast of Glass to the San Diego Comic Con. The film’s panel will be held on Friday, July 20th in Hall H and will include a Q&A with the cast. Shyamalan, a San Diego Comic Con veteran, also promised fans can expect “a surprise as well…”

The announcement of Glass‘ Comic Con plans was accompanied by a teaser poster for the feature film.

The cast of Glass includes Bruce Willis, James McAvoy, Samuel L Jackson, Spencer Treat Clark, Charlayne Woodard, Sarah Paulson, and Anya Taylor-Joy. Described as the culmination of the Unbreakable and Split story, Glass is produced by Shyamalan and Jason Blum (Blumhouse Productions), Ashwin Rajan, and Marc Bienstock. Steven Schneider serves as executive producer.

The Blinding Edge Pictures and Blumhouse production will be released by Universal Pictures domestically on January 18, 2019. Buena Vista International is handling its release in foreign markets.

Details on Glass: M. Night Shyamalan brings together the narratives of two of his standout originals — 2000’s Unbreakable, from Touchstone, and 2016’s Split, from Universal—in one explosive, all-new comic-book thriller: Glass.

From Unbreakable, Bruce Willis returns as David Dunn as does Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price, known also by his pseudonym Mr. Glass. Joining from Split are James McAvoy, reprising his role as Kevin Wendell Crumb and the multiple identities who reside within, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Casey Cooke, the only captive to survive an encounter with The Beast.

Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.

Joining the all-star cast are Unbreakable’s Spencer Treat Clark and Charlayne Woodard, who reprise their roles as Dunn’s son and Price’s mother, as well as Golden Globe Award winner Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story series).

‘Father of the Year’ Trailer Pits David Spade Against Nat Faxon

The official trailer for Netflix’s Father of the Year finds David Spade and Nat Faxon facing off as dads of two college friends who come up with a dumb idea to decide whose dad is tougher. The comedy movie comes from director Tyler Spindel who co-wrote the script with Brandon Cournoyer.

Joining David Spade (The Ridiculous 6) and Nat Faxon (Friends from College) in the Netflix film are Joey Bragg (Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later), Matt Shively (Santa Clarita Diet), and Bridgit Mendler (Undateable). Allen Covert, a frequent collaborator with Adam Sandler and David Spade, served as producer.

Father of the Year will premiere on Netflix on July 20, 2018.

The Plot: When a drunken debate between two recent college graduates about whose father would win in a fight is taken seriously by their idiot dads, jobs are lost, relationships ruined, futures destroyed, and best friends come of age as they come to grips with who their fathers really are.

‘Juliet, Naked’ Romantic Comedy Offers Up an Engaging First Trailer

Rose Byrne is at the center of a love triangle in the trailer for the romantic comedy, Juliet, Naked. The film’s based on the book by Nick Hornby and was adapted for the screen by Evgenia Peretz, Jim Taylor, and Tamara Jenkins. Previous big screen adaptations of Hornby’s novels include About a Boy, A Long Way Down, Fever Pitch, and High Fidelity.

In addition to Rose Byrne (the Insidious films, Adult Beginners), the cast includes Ethan Hawke (The Magnificent Seven) and Chris O’Dowd (The Cloverfield Paradox). Jesse Peretz (Our Idiot Brother, Nurse Jackie) directed the 2018 release, and Judd Apatow, Albert Berger, Ron Yerxa, Barry Mendel, and Jeffrey Soros served as producers.

The behind the scenes team includes director of photography Remi Adefarasin, editors Sabine Hoffman and Robert Nassau, and production designer Sarah Finlay.

Juliet, Naked was one of the true buzz titles at Sundance this year, driven by a wonderful, romantic rock and roll sensibility and enormously winning performances by Rose Byrne, Ethan Hawke and Chris O’Dowd,” stated Roadside Attractions co-founders Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff. “Jesse Peretz delivered an indie-spirited home run that’s also broadly commercial and crowd pleasing. It’s the perfect fun and heartwarming comedy for us to program on our slate this summer.”

Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate are planning to release Juliet, Naked in theaters on August 17, 2018.

The Plot: Annie (Rose Byrne) is stuck in a long-term relationship with Duncan (Chris O’Dowd) – an obsessive fan of obscure rocker Tucker Crowe (Ethan Hawke). When the acoustic demo of Tucker’s hit record from 25 years ago surfaces, its release leads to a life-changing encounter with the elusive rocker himself. Based on the novel by Nick Hornby, Juliet, Naked is a comic account of life’s second chances.

‘Sicario: Day of the Soldado’ Movie Review

“It’s your chance to get even for your family. You’re going to help me start a war,” says Matt Graver (Josh Brolin). “With who?” asks Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro). “Everyone,” replies Graver to his trusted ally in the movie sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado.

In the sequel to 2015’s Oscar-nominated Sicario, the drug war is still going strong, and the cartels have begun trafficking terrorists across the U.S. border. The American government once again enlists Special Agent Graver to turn up the heat on the cartels and to bring his unique talent for creating chaos to the fight.

Graver advises those seeking to escalate the war on the cartels that if they want him to be involved, the gloves will have to come off and things are guaranteed to get dirty. He’s told that’s exactly why he was chosen to oversee the fight.

Graver calls on his old comrade, the mysterious Alejandro whose family was murdered by a cartel kingpin a few years back, to help him start a war between the cartels in Mexico.

As tensions escalate, Alejandro kidnaps a kingpin’s daughter to inflame the conflict. The thin lines even Graver and Alejandro won’t cross begin to fade away, and the two trusted friends just might end up on opposite sides of the ever-changing fight.

Sicario: Day of the Soldado is a gritty, intense, and brutally violent crime drama that’s elevated by strong performances and effective tight, sharp dialogue. Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro deliver superb performances while reprising characters they originated three years ago in the original Sicario film.

Del Toro stretches the character of Alejandro this time showing how he, a man who’s full of anger, sadness, and is a lethal killing machine, can still find someone to care about and a new cause to pursue. It’s his performance that truly makes the film riveting to watch.

Brolin is once again perfect as Special Agent Graver who’s at his best when he’s either creating or fighting a war for his government. He’s a man happiest instigating chaos and destruction in the name of making life a bit safer for the United States.

With stellar performances, a well-written script, and surprising and intense action scenes, Sicario: Day of the Soldado is much more than just a worthy sequel. It’s one of the best films of the year and shouldn’t be missed.

GRADE: B+

MPAA Rating: R for strong violence, bloody images, and language

Running Time: 122 minutes

Directed By: Stefano Sollima

Release Date: June 29, 2018

‘Panic’ Among Three New Young Adult Pilots Amazon’s Greenlit

Panic Book Adapted for TV

Amazon Studios has just greenlit pilots for three potential young adult series: Panic, The Wilds, and College. Panic is based on the bestselling book of the same name by Lauren Oliver while Daredevil‘s Sarah Streicher created The Wilds. Marja-Lewis Ryan (6 Balloons) created the drama, College.

Not long ago Amazon changed their development process. Amazon subscribers used to be able to vote on which pilots they’d like to see move forward into production. Now, the pilots are evaluated by Amazon staff to determine if they’re a fit for their audience.

“We see YA programming as a big opportunity to expand our entertainment offerings for Prime Video and we are actively pursuing projects that spark conversation and co-viewing,” stated Albert Cheng, Co-Head of Television, Amazon Studios.

“We’re excited to explore the point of view of Lauren, Sarah, and Marja who are fresh and distinct voices in television,” said Nick Hall, Head of Alternative Scripted Programming, Amazon Studios. “They are creating content for a younger audience that will also transcend cross-generationally, and we look forward to bringing this new perspective to our Prime audience.”

Details on Amazon’s Young Adult Pilots:

College
Created by Marja-Lewis Ryan, College digs beyond the headlines that make college campuses ripe for drama and steps inside the shoes of six roommates as they hook up, mess up and grow up on their own terms. Producers Channing Tatum and Jill Soloway bring style and relevance to this unabashed peek into the lives of the next generation.

College is a joint production between Free Association and Topple Productions, with Channing Tatum, Jill Soloway, Reid Carolin, Andrea Sperling, and Peter Kiernan as executive producers.

Panic
Based on Lauren Oliver’s NYT bestselling novel, Panic brings us to a forgotten rural town where every year the graduating seniors risk their lives in an illegal, high-stakes game to win life-changing money – and a chance to escape. Anonymous judges force the players through a series of challenges that will compel them to confront their deepest fears – and upend their ideas of who they are, who to trust, and who they might become. This year, 47 players will compete for the biggest pot ever. All of them will be changed. Only one will win.

Panic is written and created by Oliver, executive produced by Joe Roth & Jeff Kirschenbaum of Roth Kirschenbaum Films with Alyssa Altman serving as co-executive producer. Oliver will also be executive producing and Lynley Bird Co-Executive producing both for Glasstown Entertainment, and Elle Triedman also executive producing.

The Wilds
A group of teenage girls from radically different backgrounds find themselves stranded on a remote island, unaware that they’ve just become the subjects of an elaborate social experiment. Part survival drama, part dystopic slumber party, The Wilds explores the past and present struggles of these young women, offering up a vivid portrayal of what it means to grow up female in our time – whether you are lost in the wilderness or not.

The Wilds, a co-production with ABC signature, is written and executive produced by Sarah Streicher and Executive Produced by Jamie Tarses’ Fanfare and Dylan Clark Productions.
