‘Fight or Flight’ Review: Josh Hartnett Soars in This High-Flying Mayhem-Fest

Fight or Flight Star Josh Hartnett

Josh Hartnett faces off against a planeload of hired assassins in Fight or Flight, a wildly chaotic and entertaining action thriller from first-time feature film director James Madigan. Think Snakes on a Plane if the reptiles had very special skill sets, or Bullet Train, but at 37,000 feet.

Hartnett reinvigorated his career with Trap, proving he can handle the calm, cool, and psychotic collectedness of an M. Night Shyamalan serial killer. And now with Fight or Flight, Hartnett once again plays a killer, but this one is, more or less, a good guy.

The intro to Hartnett’s Lucas Reyes quickly confirms the former agent’s seen better days. Forced out of his job and forced into lying low, Lucas has turned into a day-drinking pedicab driver. The promise of a clean slate lures him away from his bottle and onto a plane heading from Bangkok to San Francisco. His mission: capture a cyberterrorist known as The Ghost.

It’s not until he’s on board that his handler, Katherine (Katee Sackhoff, The Mandalorian), relays the bad news that his fellow passengers are assassins eager to collect a $10 million bounty. Which means Lucas needs to figure out the Ghost’s identity first and then protect the cyberterrorist who’s made enemies around the globe. Which also means that the assassins are going to be gunning for him, not just the Ghost.

The mayhem kicks off with Lucas’s Tony Robbins-wannabe seatmate spiking his drink. Lucas is loopy but still lethal, dispatching the first of dozens of mercenaries with help from a ceiling sprinkler.

A chaotic circus erupts, and since all the action is happening on a jumbo jet, seatbelts, luggage, and food carts turn into makeshift weapons. That’s in addition to the small arsenal of guns, knives, and swords the assassins sneak aboard. One particularly ambitious mercenary even decides that a chainsaw is the perfect carry-on item. Seriously, who does that?! Thankfully, screenwriters Brooks McLaren and D.J. Cotrona get a free pass for this wild ride, thanks to the hilariously gruesome yet entertaining kills that unfold.

There’s a whole story built up about why the Ghost is wanted by businesses and governments around the world. And Lucas’s background and connection to his handler Katherine, who happens to be his former lover, are filled in just enough to make us root for him against his corporate overlords. But Fight or Flight’s bread and butter is its incredibly well-choreographed, pulse-pounding fight sequences that all take place in tight quarters.

Lucas recruits feisty flight attendant Isha (Charithra Chandran, Bridgerton) as his fighting partner, and her timid co-worker Royce (Danny Ashok) occasionally helps when he’s not cowering from the violence around him. Josh Hartnett, Chandran, and Ashkok are terrific together, but this is really Hartnett’s vehicle to steer. The role allows Hartnett plenty of opportunity to flex his action hero skills, and he delivers a killer performance. The role provides Hartnett with a generous canvas to display his action skills, a challenge he meets head-on. But beyond the physicality lies an engaging performance that adds an important component to the film. Along with all the crazy, outrageous action, Hartnett and his co-stars have ample opportunities to showcase their comedic prowess. All the violence unfolds with a healthy dose of humor.

Leveraging its claustrophobic setting, Fight or Flight delivers action that gleefully throws logic out the window in the best possible way. Josh Hartnett’s energetic performance is the key ingredient, selling the completely bonkers nature of it all with charismatic conviction.

‘Doc Martin’ Adaptation Set at Fox with Josh Charles to Star

Two-time Emmy nominee Josh Charles (The Good Wife) will star in Fox’s Best Medicine, an adaptation of the popular Doc Martin series. The original series starred Martin Clunes as Dr. Martin Ellingham. Charles will play Dr. Martin Best in the Fox comedy.

The network just gave the one-hour comedy a series order and expects it to premiere during the 2025-2026 primetime season.

“The series centers on Martin Best, a brilliant surgeon who abruptly leaves his illustrious career in Boston to become the general practitioner in a quaint East Coast fishing village where he spent summers as a child. Unfortunately, Martin’s blunt and borderline rude bedside manner rubs the quirky, needy locals the wrong way, and he quickly alienates the town, even though he’s all they’ve got,” reads Fox’s synopsis. “Although Martin can expertly address any medical ailment or mystery in this idiosyncratic town, he’s really just desperate to be left the hell alone. Instead, he keeps getting dragged right smack into the middle of their personal chaos, feuds and fantasies.

What the locals don’t know is that Martin’s terse demeanor masks a debilitating new phobia and deep-seated psychological issues that prevent him from experiencing true intimacy with anyone. But tenacity is the creed of everyone in their small village, and the people who live there may be exactly what the doctor ordered.”

The new series is executive produced by Ben Silverman, Rodney Ferrell, Liz Tuccillo, Mark Crowdy, and Philippa Braithwaite.

“The story of Doc Martin has resonated worldwide with its humanity, originality, and humor, and with Best Medicine coming to FOX, that eccentricity gets a smalltown America spin, complete with idyllic charm and absurdity,” said Michael Thorn, President of FOX Television Network. “Liz, Mark, Philippa, Ben, and Rodney have done a terrific job adapting this signature character for the Fox audience, especially in casting the terrifically talented Josh Charles as our lead.”

The Cleaning Lady Description, Courtesy of Fox:

The Cleaning Lady returns for an action-packed season four, with the series’ beloved characters in ever-changing and increasingly dangerous situations. After three seasons of being a pawn caught between the FBI and the world of organized crime, THONY (Yung) makes the bold decision to take charge of her own destiny — by exchanging her cleaning lady uniform for the scrubs of a surgical intern at a small community hospital.

Thony’s return to the medical career she sacrificed for her son, LUCA (Sanchez), opens a new path to citizenship for them both. But to make this happen, she must continue her service to the Sin Cara cartel — not as a cleaning lady, but as the new mob doctor — bringing her ever closer to JORGE (Cabrera), the cartel’s brooding new leader. Under the watchful eye of the hospital’s brusque yet handsome chief resident, DR. SEAN DUPONT (Bonjour), Thony straddles the line between two worlds until they inevitably come crashing into each other.

Newly enthroned as the head of Sin Cara, Jorge has ambitious plans to take the cartel in a surprising, yet lucrative, direction. He’s invested Sin Cara’s assets into a rare earth mine worth billions. It’s easy, legitimate money that will result in generational wealth for them all. But the old dogs of the cartel are unwilling to learn new tricks from their upstart leader, which results in a fracture within the organization. Flanked by his lieutenants, the veteran EL DON (Pardo) and quirky newcomer FENG (Uy), Jorge must fend off a mutiny within Sin Cara, which threatens the lives of everyone he loves.

Even from within the walls of a maximum-security prison, former head of Sin Cara, RAMONA (Del Castillo) remains a threat. She continues to exert influence through her unpredictable proxy on the outside, the loner only known as COWBOY HAT (Norris). But she’s vulnerable on the inside. When a tough prison gang puts Ramona in their crosshairs, she must dig deep into her devious bag of tricks to find a way to survive.

Meanwhile, FIONA (Millan) struggles to keep her cleaning business afloat, leading her into the world of identity theft. CHRIS (Lew) learns the painful truth about first love and channels his raw emotions into an unexplored passion — dance. And JAZ (Bryant) deals with the difficulties of being the perfect child in a decidedly imperfect family.

The Cleaning Lady continues its exploration of the experience of undocumented immigrants and the hurdles they face in this country. The series tells their stories of resourcefulness in the face of institutional adversity and the sacrifices they must make to achieve their American dream.
