Max, the rebranded name of HBO Max as May 23, 2023, confirmed the streaming service is in development on a series set in the world of The Conjuring film franchise. The Conjuring creator James Wan is in talks to board the project in an executive producer role. The Conjuring producer Peter Safran is attached to executive produce the Max Original series.

Max didn’t reveal any details on the series other than to say it will continue the story established in the film franchise. The streaming service also didn’t announce whether any actors from the film franchise will be involved or when we can expect more details on the series.

Wan’s Atomic Monster Productions and Safran’s The Safran Company are producing in association with Warner Bros. Television.

The Conjuring starring Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, and Lily Taylor premiered in 2013 followed by Annabelle (a prequel about the demonic doll) in 2014, and The Conjuring 2 in 2016. Annabelle: Creation arrived in 2017, The Nun was released in 2018, and Annabelle Comes Home debuted in 2019. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It premiered in 2021, and The Nun 2 is targeting a September 8, 2023 release.

The original The Conjuring film is based on a true story and tells the horrifying tale of how world-renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.
