‘The Flash’ Season 3 Episode 8 Recap and Review: Epic Superhero Crossover

The Flash season 3 episode 8 Grant Gustin and Stephen Amell

“What happened?” asks Kara (Melissa Benoist). “You didn’t kill me, so my day is looking up,” answers The Flash (Grant Gustin) as he’s just managed to free Supergirl from being mind-controlled in episode eight of season three of The CW’s comic-book-inspired fantasy action series, The Flash.

As part two of the four-part crossover special event begins, Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) is speeding around the training facility at S.T.A.R. Labs with Cisco (Carlos Valdes) and Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) monitoring his vitals and checking his speed. Iris (Candice Patton) and Joe (Jesse L. Martin) are worried that Wally is going to jump into action fighting bad guys too fast and want him to train more. So Iris asks…no, actually orders…Caitlin to tell Wally she needs to run more tests on him and snaps at Cisco to keep his mouth shut about Wally’s speedster suit. (When did Iris suddenly become the boss of Team Flash?!)

When Wally finally stops running, he asks how he’s doing and a reluctant Caitlin says they should do more testing tomorrow. Wally is disappointed, but Joe offers to buy him dinner and praises his abilities. After Iris leaves, Caitlin asks Cisco if he wants to grab a drink with her and Barry. Cisco, still hurting and deeply angry at Barry for changing the timeline, tells Caitlin “nice try” and walks off. She looks sad as she watches him leave.

In the main core of S.T.A.R. Labs, H.R. (Tom Cavanagh) is pitching his idea about turning their base of operations into an attraction for Central City, an idea that’s not impressing Barry, Cisco, or Caitlin. Their discussion is broken up when a satellite goes off and Cisco sees a meteor headed toward downtown. The Flash speeds off and finds a weird spacecraft where the meteor should have crashed. He touches it and gets blasted backward as tall, skinny, and strange-looking aliens come running out and run off. The Flash gets up and yells into his com, “Aliens!”

The next day, Lyla Michaels (Audrey Marie Anderson) meets The Flash where the spacecraft landed and tells him she’ll meet him at S.T.A.R. Labs to bring him up to speed on what she knows. Lyla tells Team Flash that the aliens are called Dominators and first visited the Earth back in the early 1950s. During their visit, they abducted some people and then left. She’s afraid it could be happening all over again after getting a message from the aliens saying they were going to visit the Earth again on a mission to study them and not to attack them.

Lyla asks Team Flash to just stay out of it for now and to let her people handle it. After she leaves, Wally asks if they really are going to stand down and Barry says no. Iris says he can’t beat the aliens alone and he tells her he has no intention of fighting them alone.

Barry goes about organizing his small band of superheroes, gathering together Green Arrow (Stephen Amell), Diggle (David Ramsey), Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), and Thea Queen (Willa Holland) from Star City and asking Felicity to send a message to the Legends to meet them at the S.T.A.R. Labs hanger (soon to be the headquarters known as the Hall of Justice). Barry and Cisco open a breach and travel to Earth-38 to ask Supergirl to join the fight, which after a brief and happy reunion, she asks, “What are we up against?”

Barry and Cisco return to the hangar with Kara and she happily meets and quickly deduces who is who based on what Barry has told her. Green Arrow doesn’t seem to like Supergirl or trust her much, so he suggests they all train her to get ready to take on the Dominators. Dr. Stein (Victor Garber) and Jax (Franz Drameh) pull Barry aside and tell him they need him to hear something privately, but Oliver overhears and Barry insists that he join them. They play Barry a recording they found in the waverider he made 40 years in the future warning Rip Hunter not to trust the present Barry in the war they are about to face.

Barry tells Dr. Stein, Jax, and Oliver about messing with the timeline and changing the lives of the people close to him. The four agree that for now, it’s best they focus on the mission at hand and not tell the others until after dealing with the Dominators. As they head out to train, Dr. Stein has another headache/vision and Caitlin, who has just entered, asks if he is okay. He tells her he thinks so but asks if she would mind going with him while he goes home for a few minutes. Caitlin is only too happy to accompany him.

Everyone is training and basically losing to Supergirl when Barry and Iris see Wally outside the hanger about to enter. Iris walks up to him and tears into him, telling him he has no business being there and he’s not training with the others. Wally reveals H.R. says he’s ready but Iris is adamant, telling him this is going to be very dangerous and he could get killed. Wally speeds off to pout.

Walking home, Martin thanks Caitlin for escorting him and she replies that she wasn’t really helping anyway. He can tell she’s still worried about her new powers and he provides some comfort and words of advice telling her she doesn’t have to end up like her doppelganger just because she has the same powers. Caitlin confesses she’s still healing from attacking her friends and her loved ones and that she’s afraid Frost might take control of her again. Professor Stein simply tells her that if it does happen, she won’t be dealing with it alone. They come to his door and he knocks expecting to see his wife, but instead, he sees a younger woman…his daughter.

Surprised, happy, and concerned, Stein hugs the woman and then quickly leaves with Caitlin.

Cisco is looking for some doodad to enhance the Atom’s suit when he finds the recording of future Barry. He confronts Barry and asks if he told everyone else and Barry says he will after they deal with the Dominators. Cisco has a fit-and-outs Barry, forcing him to tell them right there. Barry tells everyone about the message and about Flashpoint. Diggle learns he had a daughter before Barry changed things and the Legends are very upset with him because it’s that kind of messing with time they are in charge of stopping. This is when Felicity gets a message from Lyla that the President of the United States has been taken by the Dominators and she needs their help. Barry tells them to go ahead and that he’ll sit this one out because they’re upset with him. Everyone starts to head out, but Oliver says no. “This is crazy, guys,” says Green Arrow. He refuses to go without Barry, so Supergirl tells him to stay with Barry, and they’ll handle it.

The new Super Friends track the aliens to where they’re keeping POTUS, but it turns out it’s a trap. They end up being mind-controlled by the aliens via a special device.

In Eobard’s chamber of secrets, Barry shows Oliver the newspaper article from the future saying how The Flash vanished during a battle. Barry tells Oliver the article was originally written by Iris West-Allen, but now it’s written by some other journalist. Barry is getting more and more upset about changing the timeline when Oliver, who thinks the newspaper article is weird and creepy, tells him to stop beating himself up about what he did. “You made a mistake. It goes with the job,” says the green avenger. He also reveals to Barry that if he had the opportunity to go back in time and stop his father from killing himself or save his mother, he would have done it too and so would anyone.

Oliver goes on to say the world is different because of the choices people made, not because of him. “You are not a god, Barry,” says Green Arrow to his younger friend. This is when Cisco calls them on the intercom saying they need them ASAP! Barry changes the newspaper article to show what’s happening outside and sees Supergirl and the others attacking S.T.A.R. Labs.

The Flash and Arrow try to hold them off, and it’s not long before Barry and Oliver are soon losing the fight, overpowered by the mind-controlled heroes. Wally sees what’s happening and decides to help even though Iris is still telling him he’s not ready. Wally speeds along and knocks down three of the Legends before Supergirl knocks him out. Barry tells Oliver to take Wally inside, find cover, and hold them off as long as he can while he leads Supergirl back to the warehouse to try to destroy the alien mind-controlling device.

The Flash races off with Supergirl in pursuit and Arrow picks up Wally and runs for cover. He’s running so fast that even Supergirl has trouble keeping up and he starts to gloat that she’s too slow, making her angry. The Flash positions himself in front of the device and just as Supergirl flies right at him, he vibrates so she ends up flying right through him and crashing through the Dominators device, destroying it. She looks at Barry, puzzled and not understanding what just happened.

Back at S.T.A.R Labs, Wally is lightly scolded once more about rushing into danger and realizes maybe he’s not yet ready to fight. H.R. tells him that Iris and Joe just don’t see his potential because they’re too worried about him. H.R. tells Wally he’ll train him.

Outside, Barry, Oliver, and the Legends are talking about their next step. They all agree to forget what future-Barry said and that they’ll trust their Barry. As they start to make plans, a yellow light comes down from the sky and one of the Legends is sucked up. Barry yells to get inside but a few more get pulled up before they can find cover. Barry sees Oliver get caught in the yellow light and speeds over to help him, but even The Flash is too late and Oliver is pulled up and disappears.

The Flash Season 3 Episode 8 Review:

The Flash‘s part of the epic four-part crossover basically amounts to being a set-up for the real action and fighting to take place on Arrow and The Legends of Tomorrow. Episode eight titled “Invasion” is bogged down with gathering all the superheroes and then spending most of the episode having them fight each other, first as training and then for real. This episode might as well have been titled “Flash: Civil War” because that’s what it was – and that’s not a compliment.

The standout was not in a performance this episode but in introducing to The Flash the origins of “The Hall of Justice,” the headquarters of the future Justice League. The look was exactly like the one in the Saturday morning Super Friends cartoon back in the early 1970s. Also impressive were the special effects and the looks and sounds of the Dominators. It’s truly remarkable what they’re able to bring to life and create on a small screen budget.

‘Lucifer’ Season 2 Episode 10 Recap: Quid Pro Ho

When we last saw Chloe at the end of Fox’s Lucifer season two episode nine, she was about to be blown to bits by Charlotte. Episode 10 titled ‘Quid Pro Ho’ and airing November 28, 2016 picks up as Charlotte (Tricia Helfer) is ready to press the detonator button and get rid of her son’s favorite human. Fortunately for Chloe, Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) arrives to reason with his mom and to get the detonator away from her. Squash Chloe and Lucifer will return home, or so Charlotte believes. She picks up Amenadiel as if he’s light as a feather, and Amenadiel tells Charlotte Lucifer will hate her forever if she kills Chloe. He reminds her Lucifer killed Uriel to protect Chloe and if they want Lucifer, they have to make sure it’s his decision to leave Chloe behind. Chloe (Lauren German) drives away unharmed and mom tosses the detonator in the air, upset she didn’t get to blow the detective up. Fortunately, Amenadiel catches the detonator before it hits the ground.

Dr. Linda (Rachael Harris) wants to know about his big date with Chloe and Lucifer (Tom Ellis) has to admit he stood her up. He makes up an excuse and Dr. Linda tells him he’s running scared and he’s lying – at least to himself.

Lucifer shows up at Chloe’s and she’s pissed. She thinks he stood her up because he was with another woman and she should have known he was selfish and wouldn’t show. And who should appear to make their argument even more awkward? Chloe’s mom, Penelope (Rebecca De Mornay), who’s in town and Lucifer pretends to know why it’s a big day for both Chloe and her mom. He stumbles and repeats what Chloe is saying as though he knew it all along, but fools no one as she reminds him it’s the first day of the trial of her father’s killer. He insists he’s there to support them and not talk about himself (yeah, right!) and Chloe absolutely doesn’t believe him.

Detective Dan (Kevin Alejandro) is whistling at work and Ella (Aimee Garcia) wants to know why. He’s been working out, smells good, and Ella figures out he got laid. Dan confesses he’s in shock because the woman is out of his league. Ella points out a package on his desk that might be from his new mystery woman…but it’s not. Inside is Boris’ severed head. If either Dan or Ella really knew Charlotte, they’d realize it’s quite possible she not only sent the package but cut off Boris’ head herself.

Lucifer accompanies Penelope and Chloe to the courthouse where Chloe learns the key witness’ head was sent to Dan. He was the only person who could connect the murderer to the Russian gang and now it’s likely the case will fall apart.

Chloe thought the worst part of the day was behind her with the ‘Boris lost his head’ news, but it gets even worse when Charlotte walks into the courtroom. It turns out she’s the attorney handling ex-warden Perry Smith’s defense. Lucifer’s hoping “Charlotte” isn’t the legal shark she once was, and she does seem to stumble straight off the bat. But, it turns out, things worked out her way and the trial will continue without delay.

The court takes a break for lunch and Lucifer catches up with his mom to find out why she’s involved in Chloe’s case. She confesses she’s doing it because she wants to show Lucifer Chloe isn’t worthy of him. She asks if he forgot he killed Uriel for Chloe and asks if Chloe can do anything remotely similar for him. Charlotte promises she’s going to prove Chloe’s not worthy in the courtroom in front of everyone. Charlotte also admits she was going to blow up Chloe and Lucifer goes all Devil eyes at his mom, making her swear she won’t touch Chloe. After Charlotte walks away, Chloe makes him promise that whatever he was discussing with Charlotte won’t affect the trial. He gives Chloe his word and then speaks with the prosecutor.

Back at the station, Chloe’s anxious to find out more about Boris’ death. She tells Dan that Perry hired Charlotte, and of course that gets Dan flustered since he’s now sleeping with her, a detail Chloe’s unaware of. Chloe asks Ella if she can tie Boris to Perry, and Ella says the MO does line up. Chloe and Dan believe Perry orchestrated Boris’ death from behind bars, and Ella provides the detail that Boris’ neck was cut by something like an industrial-size professional slicer. Dan promises he’ll figure out where the murder took place and Ella has another clue for the detectives: there was a special swine DNA recovered on Boris and there’s only one place in LA that sells that particular meat.

Lucifer’s back at the courthouse and as Chloe tells him he doesn’t need to be there, the prosecutor calls for Lucifer to enter the courtroom. “Off I go to shield you from that quid pro ho, detective,” says Lucifer. He swears on the Bible to tell the truth, changing up the oath a little, saying, “So help me dad.”

Lucifer’s on the stand describing the day he and Detective Douche talked to Boris. He asks for a scarf from a juror and gives a detailed explanation of their time in the bath house with Boris, charming the jurors, the audience, and the judge. He describes his first meeting with Boris, even imitating Boris’ voice, up to the point where he handed the investigation over to Chloe. Everyone in the courtroom applauds and laughs except for Charlotte and her client. Lucifer takes a bow, pleased with himself as usual and smiling at his new admirers.

Back at the station, Ella’s figured out Dan is sleeping with Charlotte while Dan wonders if he’s being used. He can’t figure out how Ella figured it out, and she runs through all the clues (a hair, a lipstick stain) and then admits she made them up. She simply noticed his butt puckered when Charlotte’s name came up. He says he’s an idiot, a sucker, and he should have figured it out.

At the butcher shop, an employee tells Dan and Ella a big guy demanded the keys and threatened her life. She doesn’t know his name but he had a distinctive scar on his neck.

Back in court, Lucifer finishes up his time on the stand by recognizing the work of Detective Decker and the LAPD. He calls her honest, trustworthy, reliable, and truly a good person. He clears up any possible misconceptions by saying she’s truly good but he doesn’t mean in bed because he doesn’t know about that. “That’s how truly good she is,” says Lucifer. Now it’s Charlotte’s turn to question Lucifer and she passes.

Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) spots Amenadiel looking under Chloe’s car and he pretends he was looking for Maze. He tells Maze he misses her and she confesses she misses him, too. They kiss and she whips out the detonator, presses the button, and blows up his car parked a few hundred yards down the alley. Maze warns him not to ever lie to her again and to pass on the message that Charlotte is not going to hurt Chloe on her watch.

Dan takes the stand to offer up his testimony against Perry Smith and Charlotte opts not to cross-examine him, either.

The prosecution rests and Charlotte calls her son back up to the stand. She gets him to confirm that Chloe was first on the crime scene and yet the police report states it was Dan. Lucifer explains Chloe took herself off the case as soon as she found the body, but Charlotte begins describing a frame job put together by Chloe against Perry – an innocent man. Charlotte says Perry is the victim of the LAPD’s incompetence and Lucifer rushes to her defense. He swears he doesn’t lie and that Chloe is a good cop.

Outside, Chloe’s clearly upset and Lucifer says he was bamboozled but that he couldn’t lie on the stand. Chloe points out that Charlotte somehow knew she was first at the murder scene or she wouldn’t have asked the question. Lucifer swears he didn’t tell Charlotte anything, and Chloe blames him for screwing up the trial because of his relationship with Charlotte. She storms off before Lucifer can explain any further.

Now it’s Dan’s turn to confront Charlotte and she admits she only slept with him to get info on this case. He doesn’t remember telling her anything and asks if she drugged him. She explains she didn’t need to because she’s learned sex puts men into a mild coma which allowed her to get info from his phone.

Amenadiel pays a visit to Dr. Linda while grasping what’s left of his car – the burnt steering wheel. He’s upset Maze blew up his car but Dr. Linda wants to know why she reacted so passionately, and Amenadiel calls Maze a manic fueled by rage and violence. He admits he did lie to her but he had to, and Dr. Linda tells him there’s no justification for lying. He realizes he treated Dr. Linda and Maze the same way, and he needs to apologize his a$$ off.

Back at Lucifer’s place, Maze is still upset about Charlotte trying to blow up Chloe. However, Lucifer’s more concerned with why Chloe thinks he leaked info to Charlotte. He wants to know who really did it and in walks Dan. Maze acts all friendly with Dan and Lucifer asks Dan if he’s figured out a way to tie Perry to Boris’ killing. Dan found out the guy who did the killing had a special tattoo from a Chinese gang and members of that gang had been locked up in Perry’s prison. Maze suggests he “probe” that angle and as they head out to find Boris’ killer, Maze continues with the sexual innuendos but Dan doesn’t catch on. (Remember, Maze and Amenadiel saw Charlotte and Dan together.) “It’s almost as if you want to take Charlotte down yourself…way down…and give her a hard time,” says Maze. Lucifer and Dan don’t know what she’s driving at until she says the word “penetrate.” Lucifer still doesn’t know but now Dan’s aware Maze is onto him. Dan admits he leaked the information to Charlotte and when he says they slept together, Lucifer explodes. He barely restrains himself from saying Dan slept with his mother and then slams Dan through a wall. They land inside a building and are immediately surrounded by gang members with guns.

Lucifer speaks Chinese to the gang members, telling Dan that since he’s the Devil he speaks everything. It turns out the person in charge is a woman and Lucifer’s able to broker a deal. She’ll give up Boris’ killer if they defeat one of her fiercest fighters. Dan laughs and then stops abruptly when he mistakenly believes Lucifer wants him to take the guy on. Lucifer doesn’t – of course he’s going to choose Maze to represent them in the one-on-one fight. If she loses, Lucifer’s agreed they can kill Dan.

Maze doesn’t even look like she’s breaking a sweat (can demons sweat?) and she doesn’t use any weapons while her opponent has two large swords. She disarms him of both and is about to slice his throat when Lucifer calls her off, pointing out at least she got two new toys out of the fight. The gang leader tells Lucifer Boris’ killer is no longer part of the group and hands over his address.

Back at the courthouse, Chloe fills her mom in on what’s going on behind the scenes. Chloe’s up next on the stand and she hopes she doesn’t make it worse for the prosecution. Charlotte breaks up the conversation and tells Chloe they need to talk.

As they hunt down Boris’ killer, Lucifer tells Dan he can’t talk about Charlotte ever again. They find the killer but someone beat them to the punch and he’s already dead.

Charlotte lays out the case and says Lucifer’s testimony handed her a not guilty verdict. Just then Chloe gets a text from Dan with the bad news on Boris’ killer and Charlotte offers an unusual solution. She’ll get Perry to plead guilty but to do it, Chloe will have to take the stand and call Lucifer a liar. That would be devastating to Lucifer because he cares more about his honor than anything else.

On the stand, Chloe explains what makes Lucifer a good partner. Charlotte gets her to admit that Lucifer has absolutely no background that would make him a good fit as a civilian consultant for the LAPD. Then Chloe catches Charlotte off-guard by mentioning Lucifer claims he used to run Hell. Charlotte asks if Chloe thinks her partner is delusional or lying. Chloe answers, “Lucifer Morningstar is many things, but he is not a liar. Everything that Mr. Morningstar said on this stand is absolutely true.” Take that, Momma Charlotte! The look of disappointment on her face is priceless. Chloe continues to talk about being at the crime scene and that she let her emotions get the best of her. She says, holding back tears, that Lucifer is the best partner she’s ever had.

Perry is released after a not guilty verdict is delivered. He passes by Chloe, smiling, on the courthouse stairs and walks away free as a bird.

Amenadiel arrives with flowers at Maze and Chloe’s place and runs into Penelope who’s outside crying. She tells him she used to believe everything happens for a reason but no longer believes that. Amenadiel says no matter how bad things get, it’s how you choose to respond to the pain that’s the true test. And then something bizarre happens… Amenadiel really looks at Chloe’s mom and it’s obvious he knows her. Penelope also feels as if she knows him, and asks if they’ve met before. Amenadiel says he doesn’t think they have, adding that he never forgets a face. Upset, he excuses himself and leaves.

Perry stumbles out of a bar and is approached by Dan. Dan tells him he knows all about the murders he arranged. Perry’s still all smiles as he reminds Dan there isn’t any evidence, and Dan reminds him the Russians don’t like one of their own taken out without their permission. As Dan walks away down the dark street, a van pulls up and the Russians take Perry away. Maze is waiting in a car in front of the van as Dan hops in the passenger seat. She helped set this up but admits she didn’t think Dan had it in him.

Amenadiel shows up at Charlotte’s office after hours and, man, does he have a secret to share! Are you ready for this game-changing twist? He warns Charlotte she must come completely clean if he tells her his big secret. 35 years ago, Amenadiel was asked by his dad to come to Earth to bless a couple who couldn’t have a child. Today, he has discovered who the child is. After seeing Penelope, he realized Chloe is that child!

Lucifer’s on his way out to visit Chloe when she shows up at his place. He’s got a brown bag with dinner and a bottle of wine to make up for standing her up at the restaurant.

Charlotte and Amenadiel now know why Chloe is so special to Lucifer. God put her there on Lucifer’s path which means Amenadiel was a pawn in his father’s game all along.

Lucifer and Chloe relax over dinner, drinking their wine and talking. Meanwhile, Charlotte has decided Chloe is not an obstacle anymore. Instead, she’s how they’ll get back to Heaven and how Amenadiel will get his wings back.

Lucifer begins to discuss what Chloe said in the courtroom and she stops him to say it was the truth. Chloe grabs Lucifer’s hand as back at the law office, Charlotte’s telling Amenadiel they’re going home. Chloe is the key.

Lucifer and Chloe lean toward each other as if to kiss but the writers (damn them!) end the scene, and the episode, leaving us hanging.

Fox’s Gotham season three episode 11 finds Mario doing everything in his power to conceal the fact he’s infected with Alice’s blood. Airing on November 28, 2016, episode 11 titled ‘Beware the Green-Eyed Monster’ opens with Mario (James Carpinello) paying a visit to the hematologist working on Alice Tetch’s blood. He explains he’s getting married tomorrow, discusses his bride-to-be, and then he attacks the hematologist, steals his badge, and squishes his head while picturing Jim.

Bruce (David Mazouz) and Alfred (Sean Pertwee) receive news that Volk has been killed by an assassin sent by the Court of Owls and have to decide if they can still trust the Whisper Gang. The Court knows or will find out soon, that Bruce is not going to keep his end of the deal, and Bruce has to decide if bringing down the Court is worth the risk. To Bruce, the answer is an easy one: yes, without hesitation.

Jim (Ben McKenzie) is at the hematologist’s murder scene and Harvey (Donal Logue) wants him to take the day off because of Lee’s upcoming wedding. Jim says no to that suggestion and examines the dead man, noticing the killer left huge dents in the side of the unidentified dead man’s head. Jim’s first thought is that Barnes did it, but the Captain’s still locked up. Harvey thinks Jim’s jumping to conclusions until Jim shows him a receipt that indicates the deceased man works at the lab where Alice’s blood is being tested. Harvey has to admit Jim’s on the right track.

Barbara (Erin Richards) meets with Ed (Cory Michael Smith) and Ed thinks the Mayor’s enemies killed Isabella to weaken him. However, Barbara already knows the killer’s identity. She fake coughs the word “Penguin” and Ed thinks that’s an absurd conclusion. Barbara points out he has the means, motive, and opportunity. Ed can’t believe Barbara thinks Oswald is in love with him, but Barbara points out that jealousy probably caused Isabella’s death. She claims to just want justice for Isabella, but Ed continues to deny Oswald loves him.

Alfred, Bruce, Selina, and a Whisper Gang member surveil one of the Court of Owls’ buildings. The gang member explains the alarm systems and volunteers to go in and retrieve the object.

Jim heads to the lab where Ryan the dead hematologist worked and finds out his key card was used just 20 minutes prior. Jim tells the security guard to call the police and then finds another dead tech in the lab. Mario attacks Jim before he can defend himself, tossing Jim and knocking him out. Mario talks to Jim’s unconscious body and says he wants Lee to hate her ex before he kills him. He writes on Jim’s limp wrist and says, “Come find me, Jim.”

Jim didn’t see Mario, so he has no idea who attacked him. Lucius (Chris Chalk) says files were taken and Harvey knows there’s someone else on the loose infected with Alice’s blood. Jim has “Arkham” written on his hand and figures out it’s not about Barnes, it’s a reference to Jervis Tetch. He pays a visit to the Mad Hatter and tells him he knows he infected this person with his sister’s blood and has been keeping it a secret.

Jim demands the infected person’s name and Jervis says he stabbed the person and infected him but won’t say who he infected. Jim rhymes back at him, but that doesn’t work. Jim tries rhyming again, and this time Jervis can’t restrain himself and says, “You’ll only know his name when it’s too late when the one you love has been murdered by hate!” Jervis knows he’s said too much and demands a guard take him back to his cell, while Jim wants to know what he means by “the one he loves.” Jervis answers with a new rhyme which includes “going from healer to killer,” and he immediately regrets what he’s revealed. Jim figures out Mario is the killer.

Back at Wayne Manor, Bruce attempts to walk a beam in preparation for breaking into the Court of Owls’ building. Selina (Camren Bicondova) starts to leave but stops to tell Alfred she thinks someone was watching them surveil the building. She doesn’t want Bruce to get hurt by the Court of Owls but says it was a “punk move” for him to make a deal with his parents’ killers in the first place. Alfred says Bruce did what he did to protect the people he cares about, including her.

Harvey can’t believe Jim arrested Mario on his wedding day, but Jim’s convinced he has the virus. Harvey wants to know why Jervis would infect Mario in the first place, walking Jim through all the reasons that it doesn’t make sense. Meanwhile, Mario’s having his blood taken to check for infection. Lucius reports Mario doesn’t have the virus and Harvey apologizes to Mario for embarrassing him. Mario tells Jim he has no hard feelings, but Jim tells him he knows he broke into the lab to find out how to beat the test. He promises Mario will never marry Lee.

Oswald (Robin Lord Taylor) and Ed go over some paperwork, and Oswald’s happy to have his BFF back. That is until Ed offers his resignation. Oswald won’t accept it and tells him he has to stay busy. Ed asks if they’re friends and then tries to trick him into believing he wants to be “more than friends.” Oswald confesses he’s been feeling the same way and says, “One can not deny love.” Ed says Oswald took it the wrong way and that he wants to be “business” partners and Oswald is shocked, knowing he’s crossed a line he can’t un-cross. Ed excuses himself and leaves.

Jim hurries over to find Lee but instead it’s Mario he encounters. Lee’s out, and Jim wants to know how Mario passed the test. Mario says he doesn’t have the virus but then teases that he might. Jim says he’ll figure out how he beat it and tells Mario the virus is upping his jealousy over Jim’s previous relationship with Lee. Mario says he’ll do anything to keep Lee, and Jim wants to know why Mario gave him the Arkham clue. Mario admits he’s more upset over the part of Lee that still loves Jim than he is of how Jim feels about Lee.

Jim pulls his gun on Mario and reminds him the virus didn’t make him bulletproof. Of course, Mario was prepared for that and Victor appears and holds Jim at gunpoint, giving Mario time to escape. At 9 o’clock, Victor lets Jim go but without his bullets. Jim knocks Victor out after asking nicely for the return of his ammunition.

At the library, Oswald presents a plaque to an author while Ed stands in the background, daydreaming about killing Oswald. After the ceremony, Oswald apologizes and asks Ed if they can go back to how things were. Ed hugs him, assuring Oswald they’re still best friends and telling him to remember that.

Jim races to the church and finds Lee with her bridesmaids, preparing to walk down the aisle. Jim tells her she can’t marry Mario, and she surprises him with the news she’s aware he believes Mario has Alice’s virus. She also knows Mario passed the test three times, but Jim’s still convinced Mario’s infected after visiting with Jervis. Lee thinks Jervis is screwing with his head and Jim practically screams in her face that she can’t marry Mario. She tells Jim to let it go, and then Jim figures out this is all Mario’s plan. Mario beat the test, sent Jim to Jervis, and then wanted him to show up at the church.

Lee tells him to get help and as she’s walking out of the room, Jim confesses he loves her and he’s never stopped. He says he was too ashamed to see her after he got out of prison and that was a mistake. He also reveals he saw her at her place with Mario, smiling and happy. He’s regretted not knocking every day since then. He begs her not to marry Mario, and she tells him she and Mario are leaving Gotham immediately after the wedding. She sobs, “Damn you for telling me this now,” slapping his face and calling his accusations crazy. Jim knows Mario wanted Lee to hate him and now she does. She asks Carmine to have his men escort Jim out as she takes Carmine’s arm and begins her walk down the aisle.

Lee and Mario smile at each other at the altar while Jim starts a fight with Carmine’s men. The vows begin, the rings are slipped on, and Jim finally overpowers the two men as Lee and Mario are pronounced man and wife. They kiss and are announced to the wedding guests as another of Carmine’s men enters the fray and takes down Jim.

The Whisper Gang members fail to show up to break into the Court of Owls building, and Alfred tells Bruce they must call off the break-in. (A very brief scene earlier in the episode showed the gang was captured by the Court and killed.) Bruce doesn’t want to give up and thinks he can walk across the room on a tightrope. Alfred reminds him he failed repeatedly in his practice attempts, and just then Selina shows up and says she can do it. Alfred agrees to allow her and Bruce to head in but says they have to stay in communication. Bruce uses this time to smile and ask her if this means she’s his girlfriend. Selina replies, “Shut up.”

Back at the station, Lucius explains to Harvey that he’s figured out how Mario beat the test. Harvey sends out cops to watch Lee and Mario because now he has enough evidence to get a search warrant for Mario’s place.

Jim’s tossed out of a moving car and warned not to mess with the Falcones.

Alfred occupies the guards at the building’s door, knocking them out so Selina and Bruce can sneak into the building. They let him in and Alfred heads off to check the house while Bruce and Selina head to the safe room. Selina gives him a kiss and then she walks across a rope strung up from the doorway to the safe. She makes it to the safe, inserts the key and opens the door. Inside is a glass owl and as she lifts it, Bruce is hit by one of the Court of Owls’ assassins (known as a Talon).

The alarm goes off as Selina attacks the Talon, and Bruce sets off a small smoke bomb to distract him, allowing Selina to escape the room. Alfred fights off the assassin and although Bruce was told to leave, he stays to help Alfred. Selina also stays and the threesome team up. Ultimately, Alfred gets the upper hand on the assassin. Just then a strange woman wearing dark glasses and a large hat appears in the room, telling them they must leave. Selina recognizes her as the person who’s been following them and when she removes the hat and glasses, it turns out the woman is Selina’s mom!

Harvey, Jim, Lucius, and GCPD officers scour Mario’s house and find the chemical used to mask the virus in Mario’s blood. Harvey learns Mario and Lee snuck away from their reception and no one knows where they are.

And now we get to catch up with Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) and Butch (Drew Powell). Tabitha attempts to hold a knife with her newly reattached hand but can’t, and Butch swears they’ll kill Ed together. Barbara thinks that’s sweet as the door opens and Ed appears. Butch and Tabitha immediately go into kill mode, but Barbara wants to hear him out. He says he wants to destroy Oswald and take away everything he loves. Ed wants people to despise Oswald as Barbara tells Butch and Tabitha it was Oswald who killed Isabella.

Tabitha’s justifiably angry since Ed chopped off her hand by mistake, and Barbara – ever the one to place her own needs over those of others – says to make up for it she will be named the leader of the underworld once Penguin is taken down. Ed will have to convince the other crime families to follow Barbara, and she believes she and Ed will make quite a team after they destroy Penguin. But first Ed has to apologize to Tabitha for cutting off her hand.

Mario and Lee are on their honeymoon at Mario’s father’s secret retreat on a lake. Lee tells Mario Jim said exactly what he said Jim would say. Mario wants to know if there’s any part of her with feelings for Jim and she says a part of her will always care for Jim but she loves her new husband and chose him.

Jim barges into Don Falcone’s office and demands to know where Mario is, telling him Mario has Alice’s virus. Carmine knew Mario was in danger but didn’t know about the virus. Without telling Jim about the Court of Owls, he says he now understands why Mario was being targeted. He’s also going to send his men out to fetch Mario, but Jim wants to go so he can protect Lee. Carmine won’t go for it because he knows Jim will kill Mario and he wants to get his son help.

Jim warns him that if Mario kills Lee, that’s crossing a line he can’t come back from. Jim says if Mario murders Lee, it will destroy him, adding that he’s Don Falcone’s only hope at this point. Don Falcone makes Jim swear he’ll bring Mario in alive and Jim, of course, does.

Out at the lake, the virus is making Mario believe Lee loves Jim. He approaches her from behind and is about to stab her when Jim races in and shoots Mario twice in the chest, breaking his promise to Don Falcone.
