“It feels like everything is wrong,” says Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green). “Not everything,” answers Maggie (Lauren Cohan) as they pay their respects at Glenn and Abraham’s graves in the community of Hilltop in season seven episode five of AMC’s horror/drama series, The Walking Dead.

As the episode begins, Maggie wakes and is informed by Dr. Carson (R. Keith Harris) that her placenta has separated from her uterus. She should be okay, and the baby is fine, but he recommends that she stay at Hilltop until delivering so he can take care of her and make sure all goes well. Sasha takes Maggie to where she buried Glenn and Abraham so she can mourn. The two women are discussing their deceased friends and grieving when Jesus (Tom Payne) shows up and places flowers near the graves.

This is when Gregory (Xander Berkeley) walks up and is upset that Jesus buried the dead bodies, telling him they always burn their dead. He also tells Maggie and Sasha they need to leave for the good of the people at Hilltop. Maggie informs Gregory the doctor suggested she stay, but he doesn’t care. Gregory reminds her the doctor doesn’t have the authority. Jesus tries to talk to Gregory to let them stay and tells him it will be dark soon. Gregory, wanting to seem a reasonable man, allows them to stay the night but is still set on making them leave in the morning.

Back in Alexandria, Carl (Chandler Riggs) decides not to go on a supply run with his father since he’s not really being on board with the whole “working for Negan” thing. Michonne (Danai Gurira) also decides not to go and Carl asks her why. “I need to figure out some things first,” she replies. Carl tells her that Rick is wrong; they shouldn’t be servants to Negan and that she knows it. Michonne says she doesn’t “know it” for certain and leaves. Carl notices Enid (Katelyn Nacon) once again trying to sneak out. (Here we go again!) He tries to tell her she shouldn’t, but Enid wants to go to Hilltop to check on Maggie, and it’s obvious she feels a responsibility to look out for Maggie because of the bond she shared with Glenn.

Enid makes a rather cruel remark that’s unlike her to Carl about having better aim than he does. (Remember, Carl now only has one eye). Regretting it the minute she says it, she tells him she didn’t mean it. Carl’s both fed up with her and hurt so he says he’s not going to save her anymore and walks away so she can sneak off if she wants to.

Over at Hilltop, Sasha tells Jesus she’s willing to stay and work if they let Maggie also stay and to see if Gregory will go for it. Jesus makes up Maggie’s bed and leaves her some clothes, telling both Maggie and Sasha he’ll try to talk to Gregory for them.

Embarking on a long road trip, Enid hasn’t gotten that far when a hungry walker starts heading her way. Great survivalist that she is, Enid seems to freeze and is not sure what to do. A car comes speeding along and runs the zombie over. The undead thing gets up and begins to walk again, but the car backs up quickly and rams it again, effectively pinning it. Enid goes to the driver’s side and opens the door to see Carl at the wheel. “What are you doing?” she asks. “Felt like going for a drive,” answers Carl.

That night at Hilltop, Maggie and Sasha are woken by a blasting stereo inside a locked car out in the yard. A few small fires are lit inside the complex and the gate’s open. None of the windows in their room open and the door’s locked, so Sasha climbs up on the roof as walkers pour into the courtyard. Maggie yells to Jesus, who has now shown up to help, to close the gate. He and Sasha take on the zombies and Jesus is able to close the gate. Sasha tries to get into the car to kill the music but finds it locked and sealed up tight. Quick-thinking Maggie gets in a farm tractor and drives it right over the car, destroying it and putting an end to the music blaring from its radio.

The next day, Jesus is arguing with Gregory that they need Maggie and Sasha to stay and last night proves it, but Gregory is too afraid they’ll be discovered by The Saviors and retribution will be forthcoming. As the argument goes on and on, a large group of Saviors show up. Gregory tells Jesus to hide Maggie and Sasha in a closet and for them not to make a sound.

Back out on the road, Carl and Enid are walking and talking about what happened the night Glenn and Abraham were killed by Negan. Carl reveals he watched it all and didn’t look away so he won’t hesitate when he gets the chance to kill Negan. Carl finds a backpack and in it are roller skates that bring a smile to his face. Enid and Carl put on the skates to go faster down the road and hold hands, actually able to act a little like their real age as if they were just out having fun one afternoon instead of living in a zombie apocalypse.

Back at Hilltop, Simon (Steven Ogg) – Negan’s right-hand man – has a one-on-one conversation with Gregory to explain that from now on he, Simon, is Hilltop’s Negan because that’s the way Negan wants it. He tells Gregory that Hilltop will be dealing with him and his men because the last crew got soft and were taken out by a new group who now work for, yes, you guessed it, Negan. Gregory keeps acting surprised as though all this information is new to him and keeps assuring Simon he’s a team player.

Simon asks if there’s anything he should know about, and Gregory takes him to where he believes Maggie and Sasha are hiding. He opens the closet door believing he’s about to deliver Maggie and Sasha to Simon, but actually inside is just a case of Scotch. Simon tells Gregory he hates that particular alcohol but will give it to Negan as though it was from him.

On his way out, Simon tells Gregory to kneel down in front of him while Jesus and a few other Hilltop residents watch. A few minutes later, Jesus lets Maggie and Sasha out of the closet in Gregory’s bedroom. Gregory’s upset that’s where they were hiding and tells them as soon as The Saviors pack up and leave they must go too. This time it’s Jesus who tells off Gregory and says they are staying and they will all be one happy dysfunctional family.

“So you’re gonna be in charge now?” asks Gregory in a snide and insulting tone. “No, it’s just that you won’t be,” replies the top scavenger of Hilltop. Gregory tries to play off what happened today between him and Simon as progress and tries to tell Maggie that The Saviors can be reasonable. She responds by punching him in the face. She tells Gregory that he better get used to calling her by her name. “Not Marsha, not dear, not honey…Maggie. Maggie Rhee.”

Meanwhile, Carl and Enid are hiding in the forest just outside of Hilltop. Enid finally realizes Carl didn’t just go for a drive but is hoping to kill Negan. (Seriously, how has this kid survived up to now?!) Enid asks how he’ll get away if he does kill Negan and he tells her it doesn’t matter. She replies that it does matter to her. Carl looks at her, and she asks him not to go. He kisses her on the forehead and then the two kiss on the lips. Carl, still determined to kill Negan, heads off to slip into one of the trucks that he knows will head back to Negan’s camp.

Back inside Hilltop, Jesus tells Sasha that Gregory was already in charge when he arrived and that he thought he had been chosen, but now he doesn’t believe that and thinks someone else should be in charge. Sasha asks who and he tells her that they will discuss it sometime. Sasha tells Jesus that if he really wants to help, he needs to find out where Negan actually lives. He tells her one of the trucks The Saviors is driving will go back to Negan and volunteers to go with it to find out.

Maggie returns to Glenn’s grave to find Enid putting balloons on Abraham’s marker. The two have a happy reunion while standing by the graves. Later, Sasha joins them for dinner and Maggie gives Enid Glenn’s watch that was originally her father’s. She tells Enid that she decided not to use the watch to mark Glenn’s grave. “We don’t need anything to remember him by. We have us,” says the strong widow as she holds hands with her friends and prepares to say grace.

In the last scene of the episode, Jesus sneaks onto the already moving truck that’s headed to Negan’s base camp. After a few minutes, he hears a voice say, “Hey.” It’s Carl who it turns out is already hiding in that truck.

The Walking Dead season 7 episode 5 review:

Slow and boring, season seven episode five titled “Go Getters” finally reveals how Maggie and her baby are doing and what was wrong with her pregnancy at the end of season six. The rest of the episode was yet another reminder of how intimidating and deadly Negan’s Saviors are and how much a coward Gregory at Hilltop is. This episode did little to add anything new to any of the characters except for Jesus who finally grows a backbone and stands up to Gregory who, to be honest, would be scared and sent into hiding by a strong breeze. It really doesn’t make sense how Gregory was ever able to get the residents at Hilltop to follow his lead.

The stand-out performance in this episode goes to Lauren Cohan as Maggie who conveys beautifully all the many different emotions she goes through in just over a 24-hour period. The look of being lost and not really taking in what the doctor is saying to her about what went wrong with her pregnancy and that she needs to remain at Hilltop until delivering the baby is perfect. The loss and sadness Maggie feels at her husband’s grave is conveyed so poignantly, and the anger she feels and unleashes at Gregory at his callous and insulting comments about The Saviors being reasonable is strong yet controlled. It’s truly Cohan’s performance that makes the episode watchable. It’s unfortunate she doesn’t have more screen time in it.

With Carl and Jesus on their way to discover the location of Negan’s base camp and Michonne struggling with supporting Rick’s decision to just crawl and serve Negan, it should be interesting to see how long it will take for the residents of Alexandria, Hilltop, and The Kingdom to join forces to take on Negan and his Saviors.

‘Westworld’ Season 1 Episode 8 Recap: Trace Decay

Westworld Season 1 Episode 8 stars James Marsden and Ed Harris

HBO’s Westworld season one episode eight of was the most frustrating of the season. Up is down and down is up, and now multiple hosts are accessing their memories – if only briefly. Airing on November 20, 2016, episode eight titled ‘Trace Decay’ begins with Dr. Ford (Anthony Hopkins) telling Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) to come back online after he’s murdered Theresa.

Bernard is devastated by what he’s done, and Dr. Ford calls his emotions remarkable. He also tells Bernard he should be proud of the emotions he’s feeling. Ford built Bernard and together they captured the “heart” of man, and if the corporation took over this place they would have destroyed what he’s built. They will now work on Ford’s plan together, but Bernard is still upset about killing Theresa and tries to attack his maker. Dr. Ford dials back Bernard’s emotions while revealing he also took care of Arnold all those years ago when he tried to attack him. Bernard’s next task is to clear all traces of ties between Theresa’s disappearance and himself.

Maeve (Thandie Newton) is back in the saloon and she sees a new host has been added in place of Clementine. Maeve watches the world around her and is obviously upset. She remembers her daughter’s death and then she’s back with technicians Felix (Leonardo Nam) and Sylvester (Ptolemy Slocum) discussing her memories. They tell her her memories are much clearer than theirs, and when they offer to check on the status of Maeve’s daughter if she’s still in the park, Maeve says it doesn’t really matter. Her goal is to break free of this place but she’s fully aware there’s a charge implanted in her spine that will detonate if she tries to leave, which means she’ll need a full rebuild. Felix tells her even if they remove it, she’ll need an army to break out. And, that’s actually her plan. She’s going to get control over other hosts, write her own story, and break out.

William (Jimmi Simpson) and Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) are exploring the new area and they come across a dozen dead men cut down by arrows. The Ghost Nation found these men which means William and Dolores have to keep moving, but Dolores stops when she hears one of the men making noise. They give him water and he admits his group was meant to ambush and kill them. Dolores wants to help him but William thinks he’s too far gone. Dolores doesn’t want him to suffer and goes to the river to fetch more water.

As she’s filling up the water jug, Dolores sees herself dead in the water and hears a voice say, “Come find me.” The vision of her dead body in the water disappears and when she returns with the water, the injured man is dead.

Dr. Ford, Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson), and Ashley (Luke Hemsworth) examine Theresa’s dead body. Her death is ruled an accident and it’s assumed she slipped and fell in the same area as the host who killed himself. She was found with stolen data and Charlotte says this version of events seems extremely unlike Theresa. Dr. Ford says Theresa’s demonstration using Clementine was a hoax and that her team needs to be reined in. Bernard will be reinstated as the Head of Behavior now that it appears Theresa was manipulating everything.

Sylvester barges in and tells Felix and Maeve there’s something major going on with the executives. He believes they’re all about to be discovered and Maeve needs to leave and act dumb. She’s not willing to do that and reveals there are things inside her that are just out of her reach, maybe dormant, and then she asks about Arnold. Sylvester doesn’t want anything else to do with helping Maeve and tells her to go blackmail techs in the behavior department instead. That’s not about to happen just yet as Maeve still needs their help making a few more sophisticated changes. Sylvester and Felix step outside to discuss what to do about Maeve, and Sylvester suggests they wipe out her programming and smack her in the head.

The Man in Black (Ed Harris) and Teddy (James Marsden) are still on Wyatt’s trail and Teddy’s anxious to find Dolores. When the Man in Black tells him he can only do what Dr. Ford wants him to and calls him a loser, Teddy has a very brief flash of memory of the Man in Black calling him a loser at Dolores’ place. They come upon dead people and one live woman, Angela (Talulah Riley), who says Wyatt’s men did this. Teddy frees her as the Man in Black hears something in a nearby bush. He turns around to talk to Freddy as a man wearing a mask and horns attacks them both. Teddy has a flashback to the Man in Black attacking Dolores while this is going on, but Teddy’s still able to kill their attacker. He knocks out the Man in Black, telling him he remembered him.

Sylvester and Felix wheel Maeve upstairs and Felix shuts her down while they perform the operation. After she’s shut down, Felix reprograms her.

A host is in the tech area learning dialogue from Lee (Simon Quarterman) for the new area when Charlotte interrupts his work. They talk about the devastating loss of Theresa and Lee admits he’s heard that Theresa was a traitor. Charlotte says Theresa was doing what Delos asked her to. Lee then explains he’s been selected to create a new villain for Ford’s new narrative, but Charlotte says Ford is just tricking him by giving him busy work. She, on the other hand, has a real job for him.

Felix and Sylvester discuss Maeve while she’s still offline, and Maeve suddenly sits up, scaring Sylvester. Felix didn’t wipe out her programming and Sylvester’s fine with letting her walk out now as long as she’s out of his life. She slashes his throat with a knife, something she’s not supposed to be able to do. Felix also gave her “other new talents” that she can’t wait to practice. Felix cauterizes Sylvester’s neck wound and saves Sylvester’s life. Maeve says, “Now it’s time to recruit my army.”

Back at the saloon, the bartender tells Maeve she has a large bar tab and she’s able to change the narrative to make him believe she’s in good standing just by talking to him. Outside the window, she sees a young girl walk by and has a flashback to the Man in Black attacking her cabin and killing her.

Maeve can command the other hosts and gets the new Clementine to gather the girls and talk to the new guests. Hector and his gang ride into town, shooting up the place as usual. Maeve steps outside and tells the sheriff the gang members are all upstanding citizens so he doesn’t shoot. Maeve turns her attention to the other lawmen, instructing them to shoot each other. Hector’s gang grabs the safe and the horse pulls it out of town.

Dr. Ford tells Bernard they can resume work on the new narrative. Ford asks Bernard what he really feels now that he knows he’s a machine and knows his own true nature. Bernard wants to know if the memories he has are real, and Dr. Ford explains he just needed a backstory and that he wasn’t married and didn’t have a child. His imagined suffering makes him lifelike and Bernard asks what’s the difference between his pain and Dr. Ford’s. That’s the question that consumed Arnold and filled him with guilt, explains Ford. Dr. Ford says consciousness doesn’t exist and there’s nothing special about the way humans behave compared to the hosts. He tells Bernard he’s not missing anything at all and before he sets his mind at ease, Bernard asks if he’s hurt anyone else before. Dr. Ford says no but Bernard has a flashback of killing Elsie.

William and Dolores come to a field and Dolores says she’s home. She sees an empty town but has a flashback of a time when it was populated with hosts. In her memories, a tech is walking through examining and teaching the hosts. They’re learning how to dance and behave like real people. Lawrence’s daughter walks up and asks her if she found what she was looking for, and then there’s a shoot-out and Dolores sees herself with a gun to her head.

Coming back to the present, William walks up and grabs the gun from Dolores’ head. She’s completely confused and wants to know where they are, when they are, and if he’s real. He tells her he’s real and she says she’s trapped in a dream and having memories from long ago. She says Arnold wants her to remember and William believes he needs to get her out of there now.

Night falls, and Dolores says she was certain that was where Arnold would meet her. William thinks she’s breaking down because she’s too far away from town and just then a scouting party rides up. It’s led by Logan (Ben Barnes) and he says he’s been looking for them for days. He tells them they’re f**ked.

Lee and Charlotte walk through rows and rows of hosts that are in storage, deactivated. Charlotte finds one particular host and uploads 35 years of data, telling Lee he needs to give the host a personality and get him on the train out of the park. She tells him to have fun programming the host and leaves.

Ashley tells Bernard he didn’t agree with the decision to fire him and he’s glad to have him back. Ashley sympathizes with Bernard, telling him it must be difficult to have lost Theresa. Bernard looks confused and says Ashley had the wrong idea, he barely knew Theresa. Ashley asks about Elsie but Bernard hasn’t heard from her. Ashley’s suspicious and Bernard walks away.

Teddy makes camp with Angela and has the Man in Black tied up by the fire. Teddy says his goal is to save Dolores or die trying. Wyatt’s is to cleanse the earth, but Teddy doesn’t know who the Man in Black really is. He hits him again and lets him know he remembers when the Man in Black hurt Dolores. The Man in Black calls him an idiot and a glorified pimp. Teddy threatens to kill him, but the Man in Black says he can’t because of the rules. He calls himself a god, a titan of industry, and a family man who was married to a beautiful woman. He claims to have been the good guy but then last year his wife took the wrong pills and accidentally killed herself. 30 years of marriage vanished and at the funeral he tried to console his daughter but his daughter said her mom killed herself because of him. Every day was sheer terror with him and even though he didn’t hurt them, they knew what was inside of him.

The Man in Black had to prove her wrong so he came back to this place where it reveals your true self. He’s been creating his own stories and Maeve was part of the first test. He wanted to see if he could do something truly evil. He shot Maeve’s daughter in front of her just to see what he felt, but then Maeve refused to die when he stabbed her. He felt nothing inside, but then something happened. He watched Maeve take her dead daughter outside and saw that Maeve was truly alive, if only for a second. That’s when he discovered there was a deeper game – Arnold’s game.

Maeve tells the new Clementine she’s getting out of there. As she’s leaving the saloon she hears gunshots and reacts by slicing the new Clementine’s throat. She walks away as marshals approach. She tells a gunslinger to shoot at them as she runs away.

Back at HQ, those monitoring the park notice that Maeve’s not responding. They have to send a team to retrieve her.

In a flashback we see Maeve is hysterical after the Man in Black killed her daughter. She’s brought in to be worked on and the tech can’t get her to respond. Dr. Ford finally gets her under control and tells her she doesn’t have to suffer. She doesn’t want Dr. Ford to remove the pain because it’s all she has left of her daughter, but he erases her memories anyway. Bernard assists him and they decide to give her a new role, a fresh start. She stands up and stabs herself in the neck.

The retrieval team find Maeve in her room and are going to bring her in for a complete diagnostic.

The Man in Black needs to find Wyatt as beating him is the last step in being able to conquer the maze. Angela says the Man in Black is worse than Wyatt’s men and Teddy tries to kill him but can’t. Angela offers to help Teddy and then stabs Teddy with an arrow. Wyatt’s men approach through the darkness and fog as Teddy lies on the ground still alive but with an arrow in his shoulder.

‘Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency’ Season 1 Episode 5 Recap: Very Erectus

Dirk Gently's episode 5 stars Samuel Barnett and Elijah Wood

BBC America’s Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency season one episode five had piles of dead bodies, a cute kitten, and the heartbreaking death of a major character. Even though the Corgi was absent for the entire episode, the rest of the characters’ stories moved forward as Todd and Dirk inched closer to solving the mysterious death of Patrick Spring. Episode five titled ‘Very Erectus’ began with Gordon (Aaron Douglas) getting rid of Lux’s possessions while Lydia (Alison Thornton) plays with leaves like a dog. Gordon apologizes for turning her into Rapunzel the Corgi and is about to kill her, but instead lets her return to enjoying the leaves.

Bart (Fiona Dourif) and Ken (Mpho Koaho) run out of gas, and for once Bart isn’t sure what to do. She decides the best option is to just stand there and wait, even though they’ve run out of gas right in front of a bus stop.

Dirk’s super happy to embark on a buried treasure hunt, but Todd (Elijah Wood) tells him he wants to get back to Amanda as soon as possible. The kitten meows in agreement…or because she’s hungry, bored, or just felt like meowing.

Farah (Jade Eshete) is doing surveillance on Detectives Zimmerfield (Richard Schiff) and Estevez (Neil Brown Jr) and hears them discussing Patrick Spring’s lawyer.

Todd and Dirk (Samuel Barnett) stop for a bite to eat on their road trip, and Todd wonders if weird stuff happens all the time to the holistic detective. Dirk thinks things aren’t weird; it’s just a series of coincidences. But when Todd says there’s a “power” behind this, Dirk gets antsy and says he’s just a guy. He blurts out that he’s not psychic even though Todd never used that description, and then tries to change the subject. Todd draws something, hides it, and wants Dirk to tell him what he drew. Dirk refuses and gets up from the table, telling him he doesn’t have time to discuss Todd’s stupid drawing of a cowboy…which is exactly what Todd drew.

Amanda (Hannah Marks) is alone at Todd’s apartment when the Rowdy 3 van pulls up outside. She smiles, heads outside, and hops in the van.

Dirk trades the Corvette, which was a rental, to the chef from the restaurant in exchange for his Jeep because the next part of their treasure hunt involves some off-roading. Dirk also got Todd a shirt which just happens to be the same shirt Todd saw his doppelgänger at the hotel wearing on the day of Patrick Spring’s murder. As they pull away from the restaurant, two men follow them.

Riggins (Miguel Sandoval) prepares to confront Project Incubus (aka The Rowdy 3) with only Friedkin (Dustin Milligan) to back him up. Riggins says not to engage Project Incubus and then once again runs through the description of the group. They were some of the first Black Wing subjects and they exist through the “extortion of psychic energy.” They were originally classified as vampires, and Friedkin asks if he needs to be armed with wooden stakes and golden bullets. Riggins thinks the Rowdy 3 can be reasoned with if they remain calm.

Amanda is fitting in with the Rowdy 3 just fine, and she wants to know if Dirk is their friend. They don’t consider him a friend and just follow him because his energy tastes good. Amanda wants to know if they sucked the energy out of her, and yes, that’s what they did. They love her energy and tell her she went gonzo nutballs when they did it.

The detectives head to the zoo where Gordon used to work and find out from his co-worker that Gordon was a prick. Gordon’s co-worker tells the detectives everyone thought he’d do something illegal at some point, and she’s not in the least bit surprised there was a dead body in his house when it burned down. She also tells the detectives there’s an abandoned building on zoo property that Gordon had access to.

Dirk and Todd follow the map to the middle of nowhere and Todd expresses his disappointment that Dirk didn’t randomly lead them to the right place. Todd stopped the car to check the map and Dirk decided that’s where they would start digging, even though this particular place was not necessarily his choice. They have no idea what they’re looking for but begin digging anyway.

And now we’re back to the bizarre team of Bart and Ken who are still hanging out just waiting for something to happen. Ken’s starving and convinces Bart to join him in a nearby restaurant for lunch. Just like with music on the radio, the restaurant is a new experience for Bart who’s never had Chinese food before because she’s never been to China. Ken’s concerned about the bill because he doesn’t have any money, however, Bart does. She pulls out a huge tangled mass of bills that adds up to $17,000.

After finishing eating, they check into a hotel – yet another new experience for Bart. She’s thrilled there’s a shower and takes a long enough one that Ken gets worried. He knocks on the door and asks if she’s okay, and fortunately she tells him how bad the shampoo tastes so he can warn her to stop drinking it. And, she reminds him that he’s still here.

Dirk and Todd keep digging holes into the night, and Todd suggests checking the map again. Dirk doesn’t want to give up because they have to dig somewhere, but Todd wants to give up because it’s late and he’s tired. Dirk tells him not to walk away from this and not to give up. “What if one more shovel in the dirt is all it would take?” asks Dirk. Todd agrees, and then Dirk changes his mind, gives in, and doesn’t want to keep digging. Todd insists they try one more hole and of course when they do, there’s something there. They dig up a small wooden box with a weird apparatus Dirk calls a “thing.”

The Rowdy 3 attack a squad car with baseball bats for no reason, and Amanda willingly joins in. She cracks the back window and then imagines spikes through her hands. The Rowdy 3 surround her and pull the energy from her. They assure her she won’t have to worry about her disease anymore.

Dirk, Todd, and the kitten wake up after falling asleep in the Jeep next to where they dug the holes. They get up, stretch, talk about Todd’s failed band, and Dirk’s happy to have Todd along so he can look in front of him while Todd watches his back. And then it’s back to digging up weird stuff buried by a dead guy.

Zimmerfield and Estevez talk to their boss back at the police station, telling him this all has to do with Gordon and that the animal transfer place where he worked is condemned and they can’t get into it. Unfortunately, their boss says they don’t have enough for a warrant but Zimmerfield gets angry at that answer. Their boss can’t be convinced and tells them to move on with their investigation.

Zimmerfield and Estevez come to the conclusion their boss is covering for someone.

Back at the field of holes, Dirk and Todd try to put together all of the pieces they dug up. Dirk thinks it might be Edgar Spring’s unlimited energy device and maybe they can trade it for Lydia. Todd wants to know if Dirk can see things and tells him that he’s seen the shirt before. Just then the two guys that followed them the day before turn up and start shooting. Todd picks up the kitten and one of them yells at the other to get down because he’s got the shark! The kitten is the shark! Dirk throws it at them and it turns into a holographic hammerhead in midair. After taking out the bad guys, the kitten returns to being just a little black kitten. Dirk and Todd now know they have the murder weapon used to kill Patrick Spring – the kitten.

Riggins and Friedkin surveil the Rowdy 3 and apparently the Rowdy 3 know they’re there. They beat up Friedkin until Riggins stops them. Riggins assures them he just wants to talk, telling them he’s just trying to save their lives. The Rowdy 3 don’t believe him and swear they’ll never go back into cages. The situation escalates when Friedkin grabs Amanda and puts a gun to her head, demanding the Rowdy 3 put down their weapons. Riggins tells him to let go of the girl but he doesn’t and the Rowdy 3 hightail it out of there. Amanda runs off and Riggins is furious that the Rowdy 3 escaped.

Meanwhile, Farah keeps up her surveillance of Zimmerfield and Estevez. The detectives are trying to stay positive about Lydia.

Dirk and Todd bandage their wounds and Todd says he’s worried that if he dies, no one will take care of Amanda. Dirk calls him a good brother, but Todd disagrees. He confesses he didn’t actually have the disease. He lied so he could get money from his parents. (Oh Todd, we’re seeing you in a whole new light now. Bummer.) He said he got better so Amanda could get treatment, but his parents were already broke by that point. Amanda says knowing Todd was cured is what gets her through the day and gives her hope. He calls himself an asshole and in this case, he’s absolutely right. Then they both notice the kitten has disappeared.

Bart’s missing from the hotel room and Ken finds her in a bathrobe on the street. She tells him this sleeping and eating thing is really slowing her down, and then she spots a guy she says she needs to kill. She doesn’t know who he is but it’s the will of the universe. Ken doesn’t want her to end up in jail but she insists she needs to kill this stranger. She calls to the guy from across the street and he actually starts to cross the street without looking. He’s run over by a car and dies.

Zimmerfield and Estevez are ready to use wire cutters on the fence around the deserted building at the zoo, but the gate’s unlocked and there’s a car in the parking lot. They enter the building cautiously and see drawings all over the walls. They also find a pile of dead bodies – 35 bodies to be exact. Farah’s outside watching them with a sniper rifle and sees Zimmerfield get shot with an arrow through the chest. Estevez fires back at the two men as Gordon drives by with Lydia in the backseat of the car. Estevez drags Zimmerfield into the car and speeds away as Zimmerfield gasps for breath. With his dying breath, he tells Estevez to save Lydia Spring.

Todd and Dirk keep searching for the missing kitten who is also a murdering hammerhead shark. Dirk’s not sure what to do next and feels a bit directionless. He tells Todd he’s not psychic but he has always had intuitions. He explains what it was like for him as a child, saying, “It was like reading in another language. Like signs with symbols, I didn’t understand.” Todd asks why he doesn’t use it to keep himself safe, and Dirk says the hunches never help him personally. He uses them to help others, and Todd’s the first person in his entire life who has stuck around and helped. Todd’s also Dirk’s first friend but he tells him he’s sick of his bullshit. He doesn’t think Todd is an asshole but that he just makes excuses for his excuses. Dirk would appreciate it if Todd would stop calling himself an asshole and Todd agrees. He also agrees to help him solve Patrick’s murder, save Lydia, and figure out the rest of the mysteries. Todd also promises to tell Amanda the complete truth. Plus, he admits he actually is Dirk’s friend.

Back at Todd’s place, Amanda is completely freaked out when Farah shows up. Farah also appears to be losing it and tells Amanda she just saw Lydia Spring.

Friedkin is asked for his report back at headquarters and he explains they tried Project Icarus first but Dirk Gently said he didn’t want to be brought in. They moved on to Project Incubus but were met with a hostile response. Confronting them did’nt work, and Friedkin wanted to use a more aggressive approach. He throws Riggins under the bus, blaming both failures on his superior officer.

‘The Exorcist’ Season 1 Episode 8 Recap: The Griefbearers

Casey’s almost completely gone as the demon has taken control over her body in Fox’s The Exorcist season one episode eight. Airing November 18, 2016, episode eight begins with an angry Angela (Geena Davis) slapping Marcus (Ben Daniels). She’s upset, and rightfully so, that she wasn’t told Casey (Hannah Kasulka) had been found.

Henry (Alan Ruck), Kat (Brianne Howey), and Chris (Sharon Gless) barge in and the demon says, “Mother MacNeil? Someone got old.” They can’t believe Casey’s condition as her skin has blackened and her eyes are a horrifying brownish red.

Kat is tricked into believing she’s talking to her sister and then the demon tells her she’s a terrible driver. They try to convince Kat to walk away and finally Henry is able to do it, so the demon turns its attention to Casey’s father. The demon tells Henry it was responsible for making the scaffolding fall, causing his injury. For its next act, it tosses Kat and Henry into the wall.

Angela yells at the demon to get the hell out of her daughter, so the demon taunts Angela with Casey’s current location. She’s in hell nailed to the floor in a room without windows. She’ll be alone forever, but she’ll know her mother put her there. The family’s sent from the room as Father Tomas (Alfonso Herrera) and Marcus continue the exorcism. Henry’s upset they’re not allowed to stay and observe, and Chris tells Henry that listening to it happen from another room is the hardest part. Angela wants Henry and Kat to go home and pack, telling them she’ll stay and see it through. Once it’s over, they won’t be able to stay home because of all the police and media attention. They need to be able to flee as soon as Casey’s back.

Chris, Kat, and Henry have to walk through a wall of photographers and reporters to get to the car. Mother Bernadette (Deanna Dunagan) steps outside to tell the reporters to leave because they’re trespassing. The police aren’t going to help Mother Bernadette clear the area because the reporters are on the sidewalk. A detective wants to come inside and see if Casey’s in there, but Mother won’t allow it without a warrant.

The tour guides/experts on weird happenings around Chicago help bandage Father Bennett (Kurt Egyiawan) and make an anonymous call to the police reporting a dozen human remains in the boiler room of Tattersal Landscaping.

Marcus and Father Tomas continue the exorcism with Mother Bernadette’s help. Father Tomas wants to bring in Angela to try and reach Casey, but Marcus won’t allow it. A fistfight breaks out between the two men as the demon smiles. Marcus notices the smile and tells Father Tomas the demon’s worming its way into their brains. It growls/snarls/laughs at them.

Outside the room, Angela announces to Father Tomas and Marcus she’s ready. Marcus warns her again about what’s in store, and Angela says she knows the demon better than anyone. Marcus makes her promise to run if she feels the slightest twinge. When they re-enter the room, items fall from the wall as Casey says, “Hello, mommy.” She wants to know why her mom gave up on her and Marcus tells Angela to keep it talking. It looks at Father Tomas and he grimaces in pain.

Angela tries to get through to Casey by talking about what happened in her childhood. The demon says disgusting things about how she stretched Regan out as a kid. She even talks about Angela’s abortion before she had Casey and Kat. Angela continues on and tells her daughter she’s strong. Father Tomas and Marcus stick with the exorcism script. Together, they all say, “I forgive you, fallen angel.”

A news report comes on announcing corpses were discovered at Tattersal. Father Bishop tells one of the higher-ups in the papal entourage that Tattersal is connected to the group funding the Pope’s visit.

Kat, Henry, and Chris pack as quickly as possible. Henry says they’re going to move to Canada and Kat wonders if people will just forget about Casey killing two people. Chris offers her house, but Henry thinks they’ll find her there. Kat declares she’s not going back to school and won’t be convinced otherwise.

Marcus, Father Tomas, and Mother Bernadette circle Casey, continuing the exorcism. Angela stares at Casey, making eye contact with the demon as she reads out loud from the Bible. Angela hears the demon’s voice in her head and the demon wants to play a game just with her.

And here comes the creepiest game imaginable… Angela’s transported back in time to when Regan was playing with a Ouija board in the basement. Angela sits at the table next to her younger self as Regan talks to the demon through the Ouija board. It spells out Captain Howdy and Regan asks if her mom will get married again. We now see the demon with a red bird on his shoulder and he talks directly to Angela. She remembers he was the photographer at the zoo when he was six and asks why he’s making her watch this. He tells her it’s a stroll down memory lane.

As he leans over the young Regan who looks to be in a trance, she drools. He asks Angela if she remembers how she felt when she was that young. In response she asks why he chose her, and he says she was chosen because she was under his foot. She’s not special and neither was Christ, according to the demon. Angela tells the demon to leave her family alone, but he claims he’s doing this because she doesn’t get to just walk away. He licks her face and tells her he misses her taste. Chris MacNeil comes down the stairs and asks Regan where she got the Ouija board, and then tells Regan she’s going to be a director. They happily walk up the stairs together.

Father Tomas and Marcus continue their work, and Casey’s body slams up and down repeatedly as they continue praying over her. They give Casey her Last Rites and the demon tells Angela the show is over. She stops the demon from twisting Casey’s head around and Marcus and Father Tomas recite the Last Rites. Marcus, Father Tomas, and Mother Bernadette are sent flying across the room as Casey’s body breaks free of its restraints and flies upward off the table, flailing around uncontrollably. She slams back to the table and Casey says, “Mom?” Angela runs to her daughter and hugs her. Marcus and Father Tomas look exhausted but pleased.

An ambulance arrives to take Casey to the hospital as Father Tomas and Angela carry her out through the reporters. After the ambulance pulls away, the reporters are anxious to speak with Mother Bernadette, but she simply shakes her head.

Police break into the building where the person behind the plot to kill the Pope is supposedly holed up. They find him but he kills himself rather than be taken in. Weapons and plans are scattered throughout his room.

The family gathers around Casey’s bed at the hospital and the police tell Henry they need to speak with her as soon as she’s awake. Henry says the police will have to go through their lawyer before speaking with Casey. Kat wants to know if Casey will be okay, and Henry wants Kat to consider moving to her grandmother’s house. They both think it’s weird that Angela’s mom is a movie star, and maybe Chris has connections that can help Kat.

Marcus and Father Tomas are listening to music at a bar and relaxing, and Tomas even tells a joke. They’re back to being friends and Father Tomas wants to know if it’s really over. Marcus tells him he could be an exorcist if he wants to, joking that he would get to see the world. They make a toast to Casey Rance and to standing in the doorway and pushing back the night. Father Tomas checks his watch and says he has to go, but Marcus wants him to stay and close the bar down with him. Father Tomas can’t and says goodbye, leaving as Marcus makes eye contact with a handsome man across the bar. He doesn’t get to act on the flirtation as a breaking news report reveals police discovered a plot to assassinate the pope.

The papal entourage travel by car and Father Bennett says that even now there are still people faithful to the Church in the city, despite what’s going on. He’s asked the names of the faithful, suspicious of the question. Before he can answer, they place a plastic bag over his head and suffocate him.

Jessica (Mouzam Makkar) meets Father Tomas at the church but she’s not alone. Her husband, Jim, is with her and he knows the two are sleeping together. He wants to know how many times they slept together and Jim tells Father Tomas he’s hiding behind the white collar. Tomas removes the collar and wants to know if Jim wants to hit him. He doesn’t but says he’ll call Tomas’ superior to tell him the priest committed adultery. Jim leaves and Jessica apologizes, saying she’ll take care of this mess.

The news reports additional information on the Pope’s assassin, John Harplin, and Marcus recognizes him as a guy who lived under a tarp. How could he afford the supplies? He couldn’t, and Marcus knows this isn’t over.

Back at the Rance house, Angela and Chris talk while Angela packs up. Angela thinks it’s crazy to walk away from her life for the second time, and Angela’s aggressively mean to her mom. Angela says she will forget everything her mother ever said to her and then uses the nickname her mom called her as a child. Chris realizes there’s something wrong, but it’s too late. Angela twists her mother’s head backward and lets her fall down the stairs. The demon is back inside Angela!

‘Vikings’ Season 4 Part 2: Katheryn Winnick Interview on Lagertha, Ragnar, and Fierce Women

Fans of History’s Vikings will finally get to catch up with Ragnar (Travis Fimmel), Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig), and the rest of incredible ensemble when season four part two kicks off on November 30, 2016. The second half of the season finds Ragnar returning to Kattegat and Lagertha planning a power play. In support of the return of the critically acclaimed series, Katheryn Winnick participated in a conference call to discuss what’s coming up and what fans can expect from Lagertha.

At this point in Lagertha’s life, what’s motivating her? What is driving her forward as we catch up with her at the start of this second half of season four?

Katheryn Winnick: “Lagertha has always had a lot of different challenges. Throughout this season it’s been evident for her at this stage. Going into four, it’s really seeing how Kattegat is run and being extremely disappointed that it’s not ruled by the right ruler. With King Ragnar not necessarily being there and present as a king should be, and with Queen Aslaug running the show and not necessarily running it the proper way or the strongest way as a ruler to help the people. And I think for her, her dream was obviously to expand two different territories and also make Kattegat one of the largest trading centers. It’s her dream and she saw the potential of it. So, I think for her it’s a personal motivation but her heart is in the right place in wanting to do good for her Viking people.”

What’s your perspective on The Seer? He’s always been very cool but now he’s screaming which is worrisome. Is something truly horrible coming?

Katheryn Winnick: “The Seer is the Seer. You never know necessarily what’s going to come out of his mouth; he’s kind of the modern day psychic, I guess. Everyone goes to him to see the future and also for therapy, and it’s interesting to see him in a different light and in a different animated state and especially with Lagertha. I feel that she does have a scene with him – a really strong scene – where she goes to him and he gives her some devastating news that literally changes her for not only the rest of the season, but the rest of her life. It’s a really big scene. It’s really a big moment for him answering a certain question, and I think that what he actually answered I don’t think will be expected. In every choice that I make as an actress, it is in the back of my mind. I think it’s something the audience wouldn’t necessarily expect.”

Can you talk about the relationship with Astrid and how it came about?

Katheryn Winnick: “There is a big time jump in season four, in which you saw Lagertha is in a different place than she is now and had to be, and she developed this relationship with Astrid, who Josefin Asplund plays, and it’s a relationship that she… Lagertha has been betrayed by so many men throughout her life, obviously Ragnar by cheating on her and asking her to be a second wife, and then her second husband was abusive, and then Kalf who she groomed tried to use her up and she had to kill him on her wedding day. So her relationship with men, I’m not sure it will change. I’m not sure she will ever trust a man again.

So, it did make sense that she would find comfort in another human being and that that human being happened to be a women. And, I don’t feel that Lagertha necessarily is a lesbian. I wouldn’t necessarily say that and I never really played it that way, but she did find a love with her that other men have never been able to give her.

Also, their relationship has been for six, seven years and she’s very different and brings a breath of fresh air to Lagertha’s life. Josefin has a lot of humor and wit and that’s evident in her character, and especially her sense of style and her sense of the way she deals with Lagertha is unique. That was really a lot of fun to play. I think you’re going to like that relationship and I think Lagertha definitely grooms her to be the warrior that she is. It was nice just to see that it’s not necessarily, ‘Oh, here are two women that are in bed together,’ but there is a strong bond that is not necessarily the sexual part of a relationship but more of an emotional bond that is evident and really beautiful to see.”

We’ve seen Lagertha almost marry Kalf and then kill him. Is there some other end game involved with Astrid? Is she using her for something else?

Katheryn Winnick: “No, I don’t think there is any end game. I think that she sees her as someone that is very comforting, but at this stage Lagertha truly feels alone, I feel, because of all the betrayal that she had. Even though she has Astrid, I’m not sure how emotionally close she is going to let anybody into her life. And with Astrid, there is no other motive other than caring for her. She sees in Lagertha herself through her own journey, and really trying to find her own path and own purpose in life at this stage is the theory. That’s why she ends up going back to Kattegat and approaches Aslaug.”

How does Lagertha feel about Bjorn abandoning his responsibilities to his daughter?

Katheryn Winnick: “I feel that Lagertha is a warrior and she understands that Bjorn has ambitions past, necessarily, just being a father. And especially in those times it is not uncommon for the warriors to go out to explore different lands and to really raid. So is it comfortable for her to necessarily leave her granddaughter to Aslag? No, not necessarily. I don’t think that that’s the ideal situation. But, she does understand that Bjorn is Bjorn and she really wants the best for him and in life he ends up being a very famous, powerful warrior and he needs to do what he needs to do.

I do feel that it’s different from how we may look at it now in our society. That he’s not necessarily a great father, but in those days it’s making a name for yourself and teaching your children to be good warriors. To be able to find their own path is what really drove them and definitely is what drives Lagertha.”

Is there anything coming up in the upcoming episodes that was particularly fun or interesting for you to do as far as action and fight scenes?

Katheryn Winnick: “Yes, there is a very big battle coming up in four and it’s one that’s going to be over the course of double episodes. It is in the history books and it is something that you wouldn’t expect, and it is definitely epic. It’s powerful. It’s a battle and you will see deaths…unexpected deaths. You will see challenges within the fight. You will see personal relationships getting tested when they confront their enemies on the battlefield.

And of course as an actor, for those scenes you try to be prepared as much as you can by knowing your fight choreography. Shooting in those elements of rain in Ireland, on a slope with mud, with horses, with axes, with blood, you kind of have to expect the unexpected. Sometimes you find the real magic in those moments when you slip and fall and you pick up someone else’s axe because yours is gone, and everything is done a bit more sporadically.

When you see those battle sequences, it’s an opportunity to tell the story in a different way. It’s also a way of sharing the story in the battles through the action element. And if it’s done well, which our crew is incredible in shooting those scenes and our stunt guys are incredibly talented and amazing to be able to fight against, they really give it their all and you can feel the heart going into it and understand how special this set really is because it’s those moments that fill in the reality of us being Viking warriors. You can’t walk away from our set without getting banged up and you can’t walk away without being black and blue and full of cuts. It’s just part of the job and this job is not for everyone. This job is not for the divas or for the actresses that are going to be in the trailer. This is a really brutal, gorilla shoot in a lot of ways and you need a thick skin and you need to just go for it. I think that’s what makes this job so special and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I think that’s what makes me love being a Viking. It’s because it’s raw and it’s real. And some of those cuts that you see on camera are actually real blood, I’ll tell you that for sure.”

It appears from the previews that there’s going to finally be a reckoning between Lagertha and Aslaug. Can you talk a little bit about that and whether or not we are finally going to get a sense of satisfaction that Lagertha has kind of taken care of business there?

Katheryn Winnick: “Yes, there is definitely a big epic scene where Lagertha and Aslaug come face to face and I will say it’s pretty epic. It’s juicy and it’s memorable. I wish I could actually give away more but it was a great scene to shoot. Lagertha felt that she needed to take […]Kattegat and really try to get control back. Kattegat is being run so badly and there’s been a lot of problems with Kattegat, like people have been dying, things are not being run in a proper way as it should be. And she feels that she is doing the right thing by reclaiming it, because nobody would rule it better than she does because she truly cares about her people.

And so we had this great scene with Alyssa Sutherland who plays Aslaug and she is fantastic in it. It was great to finally get face-to-face with her and Aslaug and Lagertha together.”

How has Lagertha kept her moral center in this phase of the upheaval in a way that a lot of the other characters have not?

Katheryn Winnick: “I think that it’s the fact that she is constantly getting challenged in her moral compass and her moral ethics are always getting challenged. I think it is what keeps her honest and it keeps her who she is as Lagertha. She is formidable, she is strong, but she is also a woman. She is allowed to be vulnerable; she is allowed to be feminist. She is allowed not to have her sh*t together at times and that’s what makes this character so real and fantastic. It’s not just the strengths of her character as a warrior but her strength, her personality, and her strong sense of will is what I think a lot of people identify with.

And especially with Lagertha now going into season four, I think she is really on one hand, an everyday woman and I reclaimed it in a campaign for women and film. I designed a T-shirt that I’m actually going to launch again just to raise money for women in film. The T-shirt consists of those three words and it was in big bold print: Wake up, kick ass, repeat. That was really empowering and it kind of sums up my life, and it sums up the life of many different women which is really wake up, kick ass, repeat. Now. this can mean many things. It can mean kicking ass means being an amazing mother or kicking ass means going to work and trying to put your kids to bed and having three jobs, or if it’s a mother wanting to then be seen being a CEO of a company. There are different ways and a lot of women can kick ass in everyday life. Which brings me to my point of Lagertha. I think there are a lot of women who identify with her as a strong person and not necessarily just someone in the Viking era in that time period. But I feel that she is really the modern women that everyone can relate to.”

There was a scene of Ragnar looking back on the time when they were together as a family. Do you think it was Ragnar’s decision to detach himself from his commitment to his family that’s the difference between how both of those characters responded to events?

Katheryn Winnick: “What’s interesting about Ragnar’s character, and this is why Michael Hirst is such a great writer, is that even as he is our hero of the show, in a sense he is the elite type in one hand, but in the other he is more of the antihero in the sense that he is not necessarily all put together and he has flaws. That fits in the matter of him taking mushrooms with his slave or with him not wanting to be king and him not necessarily being a good father or a good ruler. I think that’s what really makes it very interesting.

So that scene that we reshot, we remember going back and putting on the clothes from the previous seasons and we ended up having to recast my daughter, because since then she became this gorgeous teenager. We needed someone that was at the same height – and she was in the back – but that scene was really beautiful because even though he may not necessarily be able to be the man or go back in time to be the Ragnar, the husband that he wants to be in his mind, in his thoughts, in his dreams, he has a beautiful (memory), thinking that he cherishes that moment and I know Lagertha does to. Ragnar was her true love and probably will always be.”
