20th Century Fox’s long-awaited Independence Day sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence, will arrive in theaters on June 24, 2016 with Jeff Goldblum back in a starring role. And in one of the new videos just released by the studio, Goldblum shares the screen with his character from the film, Earth Space Defense Director David Levinson, as they try to dispel rumors that they’re the same person. Other new clips from the upcoming action-adventure film show off more of the sequel’s action scenes. Directed by Roland Emmerich, the cast includes Liam Hemsworth, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, and Sela Ward.

The Plot: We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

Open Road Films just picked up the U.S. distribution rights to Marshall which is now shooting in Buffalo, New York. The dramatic film stars Chadwick Boseman (Captain America: Civil War, Get On Up) in the title role as Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. The cast also includes Josh Gad (Frozen, The Wedding Ringer) as lawyer Sam Friedman along with Dan Stevens (soon to be seen opposite Emma Watson in Beauty and the Beast), Kate Hudson (Almost Famous), Sterling K. Brown (The People v. O.J. Simpson), James Cromwell (Murder in the First), and Keesha Sharp (The Player). Reginald Hudlin is directing from a script by trial lawyer Michael Koskoff and screenwriter Jacob Koskoff (Macbeth).

Both the Thurgood Marshall and Samuel Friedman estates are fully supporting the feature film, as are Thurgood Marshall’s son, John W. Marshall, and Samuel Friedman’s daughter, Lauren Friedman. Hudlin, Paula Wagner, and Jonathan Sanger are producing Marshall, with Peter Luo and Belton Lee executive producing.

The Plot: Marshall is based on a true incident in the life of Thurgood Marshall, when he was a young lawyer, long before his appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court. As the nation teeters on the brink of WWII, a nearly bankrupt NAACP sends Marshall to conservative Connecticut to defend a black chauffeur against his wealthy socialite employer in a sexual assault and attempted murder trial that quickly became tabloid fodder. In need of a high profile victory but muzzled by a segregationist court, Marshall is partnered with Samuel Friedman, a young Jewish lawyer who has never tried a case. Marshall and Friedman struggle against a hostile storm of fear and prejudice, driven to discover the truth in the sensationalized trial which helped set the groundwork for the Civil Rights Movement to come.

Sony Pictures’ The Shallows arrives in theaters on June 29, 2016 just as summer arrives and the beaches fill up with tourists and families taking a break from the heat. And just as Jaws did back in June 1975, The Shallows may make people stick to tanning on the beach instead of entering the water and swimming away from the shore. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan, Non-Stop, Run All Night), the cast is led by Blake Lively (The Age of Adaline, Gossip Girl) as a surfer stranded on a buoy after being attacked by a shark. Blake Lively vs a Great White Shark will play out in theaters beginning June 29, 2016.

The Plot: In this taut thriller, when Nancy (Blake Lively) is surfing on a secluded beach, she finds herself on the feeding ground of a great white shark. Though she is stranded only 200 yards from shore, survival proves to be the ultimate test of wills, requiring all of Nancy’s ingenuity, resourcefulness, and fortitude.

FX Announces a New Comedy Pilot from Cristin Milioti, Nina Pedrad

Cristin Milioti (Fargo, How I Met Your Mother) and Nina Pedrad (New Girl, 30 Rock) have been given the greenlight by FX Networks to move forward on a half-hour comedy pilot. Milioti and Pedrad are writing the pilot and will star in the adult comedy series. They’re also executive producing along with Michael Rotenberg, Nick Frenkel, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton. And because writing, acting, and executive producing isn’t enough, Pedrad will also be the showrunner.

“We are so excited to be working with a network as fearless as FX and are honored to potentially join the fives of shows about women on television today,” stated Milioti and Pedrad.

The Plot: This half-hour comedy pilot follows Maxine, her best friends Natalie and Amy, and stepbrother Landis as they navigate the abject shit-storm that is adulthood. Cristin Milioti will play “Maxine,” an entitled actress-turned-process-server who takes lemons and makes a fire out of lemons, burning herself and others. Max’s dysfunctional, tight-knit clan serves as her surrogate family and always lets her sing the Aaron Burr parts of Hamilton. Nina Pedrad will play “Natalie.” Sharp witted and scientifically inclined, Nat sells weed and prescription drugs, but blanches at the term “drug dealer.” She wants to be the Sheryl Sandberg of weed.

The series has two additional key roles still to be cast.

CBS announced Adam Rodriguez will be a series regular beginning with season 12 of Criminal Minds. Rodriguez will be part of the Criminal Minds season 12 cast that includes Joe Mantegna, Thomas Gibson, Matthew Gray Gubler, A.J. Cook and Kirsten Vangsness. When Rodriguez joins the show, he’ll be playing a “special agent who is a member of the FBI Fugitive Task Force and joins the Behavioral Analysis Unit.”

Commenting on the casting news, CBS Entertainment President Glenn Geller stated, “We’re all big fans of Adam’s and are excited to welcome him back to the CBS family as part of the terrific cast of Criminal Minds.”

“We’re thrilled to introduce a new special agent by adding the very talented Adam Rodriguez to our amazing cast,” added Erica Messer, Executive Producer/Showrunner. “We have exciting storylines planned for his character and the entire BAU team as we head into our 12th season.”

Rodriguez’ film credits include Magic Mike XXL, Lovesick, About Last Night, and Let the Game Began. His television credits include Jane the Virgin, Empire, CSI: Miami, Reckless, Roswell, and Ugly Betty.

The Criminal Minds Plot: Criminal Minds revolves around an elite team of FBI profilers who analyze the country’s most twisted criminal minds, anticipating their next moves before they strike again. The Behavioral Analysis Unit’s most experienced agent is David Rossi, a founding member of the BAU, who is essential in helping the team solve new cases. The BAU team is lead by Special Agent Aaron Hotchner, a strong profiler who is able to gain people’s trust and unlock their secrets. Other members include Special Agent Dr. Spencer Reid, a classically misunderstood genius whose social IQ is as low as his intellectual IQ is high; Jennifer “J.J.” Jareau, the team’s former unit liaison-turned-profiler who handles motherhood and marriage with the same skill as she solves cases; and Penelope Garcia, the team’s indispensible computer wizard who helps research the cases with her unique charm. Each member of the team brings their area of expertise to the table as the BAU continues its dedication to pinpointing predators’ motivations and identifying their emotional triggers in the attempt to stop them.

Jamie Lee Curtis Dresses as an Orc for the ‘Warcraft’ Premiere

Jamie Lee Curtis isn’t in Universal Pictures’ Warcraft directed by Duncan Jones and starring Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, and Ben Schnetzer. Curtis, however, pretty much stole the show at the film’s Hollywood premiere, dressing up in full cosplay as an Orc shaman while her son, Tom, donned an Orc warrior costume. Wearing green face paint and elaborate costumes, Jamie Lee Curtis and Tom Guest looked right at home posing in front of oversized posters from the action-adventure film based on the popular Blizzard Entertainment video games.

At the premiere, Jamie Lee Curtis told the Universal Pictures crew that her son Tom had been a fan for a long, long time. “Therefore, what my son loves I’ve learned to love,” explained Curtis. That explanation was immediately followed by Jamie Lee and her son Tom saying, “Leeroy Jenkins,” in unison.

The Warcraft Plot: The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home. So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.
