Gordon Ramsay Saves Struggling Restaurants in ‘Secret Service’

Gordon Ramsay’s creeping into restaurants under the cover of darkness in Gordon Ramsay Goes Undercover, a new unscripted series airing on Fox this May. Although it sounds a little sketchy, Ramsay’s got a good reason to go into stealth mode; it’s all to help restaurants in trouble.

“Over the years, I’ve embarked on many daring adventures alongside my partners at FOX,” stated Gordon Ramsay. “And Secret Service is the most intrepid of them all! With undercover help and cutting-edge technology, I get to go full on ‘MI6’ with these restaurants…and they’ll never see it coming.”

The new series is produced by Studio Ramsay Global and FOX Alternative Entertainment. Bill Langworthy is the showrunner and executive produces with Gordon Ramsay.

Fox offers this description of the latest entry on Ramsay’s culinary series resume:

“In a Gordon Ramsay series first, Chef Ramsay will venture into struggling restaurants under the cover of night. With the help of a secret source on the inside, he’ll gather raw, unfiltered evidence and get a 360-degree view of the major issues facing each restaurant. This insider will not only remain a secret to the staff but will also help Ramsay infiltrate the restaurant after-hours for a dramatic nighttime black light kitchen investigation that reveals more filth and grossness than ever before.

By the time Ramsay reveals his identity, it will be too late for staff to cover up their culinary crimes. Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service will be his toughest assignment yet as he takes drastic measures to transform not only the restaurant but also the staff, because Gordon knows he can upgrade the menu and renovate the restaurant, but the most important change has to come from the people. Are the restaurant and staff willing to accept Gordon’s mission, or are they too far gone to be saved?”

Ramsay’s new Fox series premieres on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 9pm ET/PT.

“Gordon is among the most prolific creative forces in television history, and along the way, has amassed an unbelievable fanbase, reaching nearly six billion total viewers and counting,” said Michael Thorn, President, FOX Television Network. “With limitless talent, Gordon infuses each of his series with its own remarkable, distinctive personality and unrivaled stakes, a reputation he certainly upholds with this terrific new concept that will once again keep his fans endlessly engaged.”

Oscars Adds a Stunt Design Award Beginning in 2027

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will finally acknowledge the importance of stunt professionals beginning with films released in 2027. The Board of Directors has officially added an Oscar for Achievement in Stunt Design to the categories recognized by members of the Academy. The first Academy Award presented in the new category will occur during the 100th Academy Awards to be held in 2028.

“Since the early days of cinema, stunt design has been an integral part of filmmaking,” stated Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang. “We are proud to honor the innovative work of these technical and creative artists, and we congratulate them for their commitment and dedication in reaching this momentous occasion.”

Currently, the Academy’s Production and Technology Branch includes more than 100 stunt professionals.

Much of the credit to the Stunt Design Oscar goes to former stuntman and The Fall Guy director David Leitch. “There’s been confusion in the past where it was like, ‘What are you going to award? Who’s the stunt?’ It’s not like an actor, where you’re going to award the performer,” said Leitch in an April 2024 interview with Men’s Health. “That’s important because we have some incredible performers that are doing one-off stunts, but it’s like the making of a movie—there’s an army of people in every department. We want to celebrate the department, and so the award will be for stunt design.”

The Academy will release a full description of the category rules, both for eligibility and voting, in 2027. Per the Academy: “The specifics of the award’s presentation will be determined by the Academy’s Board of Governors and executive leadership at a future date.”

The 2026 Oscars, to be hosted by Conan O’Brien, will mark the first time an Academy Award will be presented in the Achievement in Casting category. Films released in 2025 will be eligible to submit in the new category.

‘The Amateur’ Review: A Smart, Sharp Spy Thriller

The Amateur Star Rami Malek
Rami Malek as Heller in ‘THE AMATEUR’ (Photo by John Wilson © 2025 20th Century Studios)

Betrayal, cover-ups, blackmail, and revenge are at the core of the spy action thriller The Amateur. Oscar winner Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) stars as CIA master decoder Charlie Heller, who loves three things most in the world: decoding, puzzles, and his lovely wife Sarah (Rachel Brosnahan, Lois Lane in the 2025 Superman film). Life is going well for Charlie until tragedy strikes when his wife is killed during a terrorist attack while on a business trip in London.

Overwhelmed by grief and anger, Charlie becomes focused on finding those directly responsible for Sarah’s death. He grows exasperated when he presents his work of finding three out of the four terrorists’ locations to his superiors, who refuse to act on it and suggest he take time off to grieve.

Instead, Charlie forces his superiors, by using certain secret intelligence, to have him trained as a field agent so he can track down and kill the terrorists. This leads to Charlie meeting and training with Henderson (Laurence Fishburne, John Wick: Chapter 4), who, after a few days, tells Charlie, “You can’t do what I do no matter how much I train you. You’re just not a killer.” But Charlie, with his brilliant decoding methods and gift of being skilled at making explosives out of different compounds, becomes a lethal, determined rogue assassin.

So, with his genius mind, new bomb-making talents, and a desperate need for revenge, Charlie sets out on an extremely dangerous trek across the globe to hunt down and kill the terrorists responsible for Sarah’s death.

The Amateur succeeds due to the exceptional performances of the cast, particularly Rami Malek, and a meticulously crafted script. It’s a thinking man’s revenge thriller where brains and knowledge can be just as lethal as a gun or knife.

Malek delivers another memorable performance as Charlie, the brilliant decoder who becomes determined to avenge his wife’s death. Malek wonderfully portrays the pain, guilt, and anger that fill Charlie’s soul where the love of his wife and life used to be. Malek also shows how Charlie hasn’t lost all of his humanity. He sets up “terrorist traps” of death that the murderers of his wife might be able to escape if they give him the answers and information he demands.

Laurence Fishburne is solid as Henderson, Charlie’s trainer at the CIA who has been and still is a cold, ruthless killer for the agency. The scenes with Fishburne and Malek are edgy and intense.

Holt McCallany is perfectly cast as Director Moore, Charlie’s boss and the man who handles the dark and shady parts of the CIA. McCallany shows both the sympathetic and understanding side of Moore as well as his ruthless political side and his determination to handle things his own way.

Sadly, the only flaw in the film is the lack of chemistry between Malek and Rachel Brosnahan, who plays his wife, Sarah. The scenes between them early in the film before she dies seem uneven and awkward. The flashback scene where Sarah surprises Charlie with a special birthday gift feels particularly forced. This is improved on later in the film when Charlie keeps seeing Sarah, almost like a ghost near him, during the few quiet moments he has between hunting and avenging. The scene where Charlie gazes at her with affection as he sees her lying on the bed in his hotel room, followed by the deep sadness in his eyes when he realizes that it’s only in his imagination, is truly heartbreaking.

Compelling, smartly written, and featuring strong performances, The Amateur is an enjoyable and suspenseful spy revenge thriller that’s smart, stylish, and engaging.

The Cleaning Lady Description, Courtesy of Fox:

The Cleaning Lady returns for an action-packed season four, with the series’ beloved characters in ever-changing and increasingly dangerous situations. After three seasons of being a pawn caught between the FBI and the world of organized crime, THONY (Yung) makes the bold decision to take charge of her own destiny — by exchanging her cleaning lady uniform for the scrubs of a surgical intern at a small community hospital.

Thony’s return to the medical career she sacrificed for her son, LUCA (Sanchez), opens a new path to citizenship for them both. But to make this happen, she must continue her service to the Sin Cara cartel — not as a cleaning lady, but as the new mob doctor — bringing her ever closer to JORGE (Cabrera), the cartel’s brooding new leader. Under the watchful eye of the hospital’s brusque yet handsome chief resident, DR. SEAN DUPONT (Bonjour), Thony straddles the line between two worlds until they inevitably come crashing into each other.

Newly enthroned as the head of Sin Cara, Jorge has ambitious plans to take the cartel in a surprising, yet lucrative, direction. He’s invested Sin Cara’s assets into a rare earth mine worth billions. It’s easy, legitimate money that will result in generational wealth for them all. But the old dogs of the cartel are unwilling to learn new tricks from their upstart leader, which results in a fracture within the organization. Flanked by his lieutenants, the veteran EL DON (Pardo) and quirky newcomer FENG (Uy), Jorge must fend off a mutiny within Sin Cara, which threatens the lives of everyone he loves.

Even from within the walls of a maximum-security prison, former head of Sin Cara, RAMONA (Del Castillo) remains a threat. She continues to exert influence through her unpredictable proxy on the outside, the loner only known as COWBOY HAT (Norris). But she’s vulnerable on the inside. When a tough prison gang puts Ramona in their crosshairs, she must dig deep into her devious bag of tricks to find a way to survive.

Meanwhile, FIONA (Millan) struggles to keep her cleaning business afloat, leading her into the world of identity theft. CHRIS (Lew) learns the painful truth about first love and channels his raw emotions into an unexplored passion — dance. And JAZ (Bryant) deals with the difficulties of being the perfect child in a decidedly imperfect family.

The Cleaning Lady continues its exploration of the experience of undocumented immigrants and the hurdles they face in this country. The series tells their stories of resourcefulness in the face of institutional adversity and the sacrifices they must make to achieve their American dream.
