Glass Chin Trailer and Poster with Corey Stoll

Writer/director Noah Buschel’s upcoming dramatic film Glass Chin is offering up a new trailer and poster. Starring Corey Stoll (The Strain, Ant-Man) and Billy Crudup, Glass Chin will be hitting theaters and will be available on VOD on June 26, 2015.

The Plot:

After going down in the fifth round, boxer Bud Gordon (Stoll) bowed out of the limelight. Now residing in a fixer-upper apartment in New Jersey with his girlfriend, Bud longs for his former Manhattan glory. In an effort to get back in the game, he makes a deal with a crooked restauranteur (Crudup). But quick schemes rarely bring easy pay-offs and as the consequences of his business negotiations unfold, Bud has to make a choice between his integrity and his ambitions.

Claire Holt has just joined the cast of the underwater thriller 47 Meters Down set up at Dimension Films. Holt will be co-starring with Mandy Moore (Tangled) in the dramatic film directed and co-written by Johannes Roberts. Roberts’ co-writer is Ernest Riera, and The Tea Shop and Film Company’s Mark Lane and James Harris are on board as producers.

Production is expected to begin this June. 47 Meters Down‘s underwater scenes will be shot in Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios’ exterior water tank. Additional filming will take place in the UK.

The Plot: Claire and Mandy will play sisters on a dream vacation to Mexico who become trapped in a shark observation cage at the bottom of the ocean, with oxygen running low and hungry great whites circling nearby. They have less than an hour of air left to figure out how to get to the surface. The picture is set to shoot in the UK and also at Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios’ new exterior water tank for the extensive underwater scenes that comprise the majority of the pic.

Holt’s best known for her role as Rebekah Mikaelson on The CW series The Originals and she’ll soon be seen in the NBC dramatic series Aquarius with David Duchovny.

‘Game of Thrones’ Season 5 Episode 5 Recap: “Kill the Boy”

Game of Thrones Season 5 Episode 5 Recap
Iwan Rheon and Sophie Turner in ‘Game of Thrones’ (Photo: Helen Sloan / HBO)

Welcome to week five (already!) of season five of Game of Thrones. The preview before the credits promises trouble for Sansa (Sophie Turner), trouble at the Wall, which includes a flashback to a Targaryen allusion between Jon (Kit Harington) and Maester Aemon (played by Peter Vaughan. Aemon has always liked Jon. Hey that rhymed! Could it be because they are RELATED?!), trouble for Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), plus some dragon action for Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) as his storyline finally begins to collide with hers.

We open in Meereen. Barristan Selmy (Ian McElhinney) and Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson) are indeed dead and the Khaleesi is pissed. Hizdahr zo Loraq (Joel Fry) picks that moment to walk in and ends up being hauled away as part of a “round-up” of the heads of the leading families of Meereen. The Mother of Dragons plans to feed them to her babies. (In the immortal words of Geillis Duncan, they’re “going to a f**king barbeque”*).

Hizdahr is stoic, so Khaleesi gives him a 24 hour stay of execution while she watches her “children” feast.

At the Wall, Samwell Tarly (John Bradley) is reading news of Daenerys to Maester Aemon. He’s waxing about his long-lost niece when Jon comes in to seek his advice. He has a cunning plan, but it will divide the Night’s Watch. Do it, says the Maester. “You’re the Lord High Commander. Kill the boy, Jon Snow.”

Fraggle the Red, I mean Tormund Giantsbane (Kristofer Hivju) and Jon parley about the fate of the free folk. “Gather the free folk, lead them to the Wall” for their safety. They “belong to the realms of men,” says Jon.

Fraggle says they won’t kneel to him; they’re still loyal to Mance. Jon says he doesn’t want them to kneel. He wants them to fight with him, and he wants to save them. He tells Fraggle that he’s either too proud to make peace or he’s a coward. Fraggle tells him that’s easy to say to a man in chains. So, Jon unlocks him. Fraggle’s price is ships to get to his people. When Jon says he’ll ask Stannis for a few, Fraggle tells him that he wants Jon to come with him or he won’t go. He thinks the Wildlings need to hear the terms from Jon.

Jon puts the plan to the rest of the Watch. Sam speaks up in favor, but Bitter Maester Alliser is still bitter and speaks against it.

Kit Harington Game of Thrones Season 5 Episode 5

Jon and his steward Olly (Brenock O’Connor) are having a word. Olly doesn’t want peace with the Wildlings since they butchered his family. Jon sympathizes and tells him that he knows what it’s like to “lose the people you love, but winter is coming and we know what’s coming with it. We can’t face it alone.” Olly is not swayed. His hero has fallen from his pedestal.

The Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) and Pod (Daniel Portman) show is back. Brienne is staring at Winterfell in the distance when Pod suggests Sansa may be better off in her home. He keeps trying to get Brienne to give it up, doesn’t he? But she’s laser-focused on her mission and shoots him an eye-dagger. “Sansa’s in danger even if she doesn’t realize it.”

A servant who knew Ned Stark comes into their chamber. Brienne asks him to get a message to Lady Sansa.

Inside Winterfell, Ramsey Bolton (Iwan Rheon) is in bed post-coitus while naked Myranda (Charlotte Hope), one of his brides of Dracula, is at the window. Ramsey is apologizing or reneging on his promise to marry her and rambling on about furthering his dynasty. They quarrel when Myranda suggests maybe she’ll get married too. He wants to keep her as his mistress even after he marries Sansa. I expected him to hurl her out the window, but instead they start going at it again. She bites him and draws blood, which of course turns him on. Is that a secret smile that means she has an evil plan – run Sansa run! – or is that just revulsion?

In her room, the old woman from two weeks ago comes in to tell Sansa she’s not alone. Is this the message from Brienne?

Outside, where there is already snow on the ground (because, you know, winter), Sansa is eyeing the keep where Bran fell all those seasons ago, when Myranda finds her. She starts complimenting Sansa’s dress and very creepily examining the stitching. Myranda then lures her to what looks like a dungeon, telling her there’s a surprise waiting. This is the kennel master’s daughter and we hear barking. Is it one of the direwolves or is she about to be torn to shreds? Why is she going down there? Why does she trust anyone in this place?! Oh, FFS it’s Reek (Alfie Allen)!

Sansa is not pleased with her surprise.

Next we see Reek with his master, Ramsey the psychopath. Ramsey tells Reek he reeks, then asks for wine. Ew. Apparently the Sansa/Reek meeting was Ramsey’s idea and not the vindictive act of a jealous mistress. Ramsey asks if Reek has something to tell him. Reek manages to squeak out, “Sansa saw me.” To punish him, Ramsey forces him to kneel. We (and he) expect the worst, but the maniac says he “forgives” him. We (and he) are obviously thinking, “What fresh hell is this?”

Time for a dysfunctional family dinner. Ramsey gives a toast to his upcoming wedding. Sansa, who looks like she’s ready to run screaming from the table, has lost her appetite. Probably because every mention of a wedding reminds her of the last one the Boltons had a hand in. Reek is serving at dinner. Ramsey is goading both Sansa and Reek. He wants Reek to apologize to Sansa for murdering her two brothers. There is not enough of Theon left inside Reek for him to tell her he didn’t actually murder her brothers. Instead, he does as he’s told and says he’s sorry. But Ramsey’s not quite finished with the scintillating dinner conversation. His twisted mind has deduced that Reek is the nearest thing to a “relative” that Sansa has left and therefore, Reek should give her away.

The mention of family prompts Daddy Roose (Michael McElhatton) to taunt Ramsey with news that his Frey bride, Walda (Elizabeth Webster), is pregnant and {whatever passes for an OB/GYN in Seven Kingdoms} says it’s a boy. Ramsey is, of course, pissed, and worried about his “position.” Roose then tells Ramsey a heartwarming story about his mother. He raped her on the ground beneath her husband whom he’d just hanged. He tells Ramsey that he didn’t throw him in the river because he sees himself in him. Ramsey is his son and he shouldn’t worry about his position.

Roose is worried about Stannis coming North, but he thinks he and Ramsey can defend it.

Back at the Wall, Gilly (Hannah Murray) is looking for books, now that she can read. She’s also feeling inadequate because she’s starting to learn what she doesn’t know. Sam confesses his ambition was to become a Maester (teacher) but he’s happy he’s a man of the Watch because that’s how he met her. (Sweet moments make me nervous! #DontkillGilly)

Stannis the Dour (Stephen Dillane) tells Sam that he knew his father, Randyll Tarly. He was apparently a great warrior who even defeated Stannis’ brother Robert in battle. Stannis the Curious wants to know how a wimp like him managed to kill a White Walker. Sam tells him about the dragon glass and that he’s “seen the Army of the Dead.” Stannis practically harrumphs and tells a clearly spooked Sam to keep reading, so they know how to fight them.

Stannis tells Ser Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham) that it’s time to march on the North. Davos thinks that they should wait for Jon to return from his mission. Stannis the Impatient says they’re leaving now and he’s taking the women with them for safety.

Shireen (Kerry Ingram) wants to see the crypt at Winterfell. Davos says they must get through the battle first. Queen Justsuckedalemon tells him not to talk about battle to her child. Pffft. As if she cares. Princess Shireen the Innocent says she’s “not scared.” Ser Davos tells her that he is and asks, “When the battle comes, promise you’ll protect me.” (Another sweet moment!)

Stannis marches his army away from the Wall. Jon watches them go.

Back in Meereen, Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) is watching over Grey Worm, whom I guess was only ‘nearly dead’. Grey Worm blames himself for Ser Barristan’s death, but mostly he feels ashamed because when he thought he was dying he felt fear – he was afraid he’d never see her again. Poor thing. I can imagine that emotion freaked him the hell out. Missandei finally makes a move and crawls onto his bed to kiss him.

Dany is torn. Ser Barristan counseled mercy until his death. Daario Naharis (Michiel Huisman) has been telling her to kill everyone. She asks Missandei for her opinion. Missandei, who knows how to keep her job, tells Dany how wise she is.

Dany, who apparently has had an epiphany, goes to Hizdahr in his cell and says she was wrong and he was right about traditions. She tells him that she will reopen the fighting pits, but only to free men because slavery will not come back to Meereen. She’s also decided that she needs to forge lasting bonds with the ancient families, by marrying one of their sons. Hizdahr, who knows she means him, is clearly flummoxed.

At last we see Jorah (Iain Glen) and Tyrion, who are still on their boat. Tyrion is talking. A lot. He wants wine. Jorah says no. Tyrion is obviously about to go into the DTs. Sailing through the Straits of Valyria on the Smoking Sea, they are reciting poetry together when Tyrion gets his first view of a dragon. It’s Drogon, of course, who’s gone back to his homeland to roost.

Suddenly Stone Men drop into the boat! (Remember Papa Stannis’ heartwarming tale last week? The afflicted have been banished like lepers to a colony of their own and that colony is right where our two heroes are currently sailing.) Jorah fights them, but Tyrion is still shackled. He jumps into the river to escape, but there’s one in the water who drags him down! We think that’s the last of him, but he comes to on the beach with Jorah, who finally cuts him loose. Jorah and Tyrion both say none of the Stone Men touched them. But is it true? Tyrion’s seen Greyscale before. Would he lie? Maybe, but Jorah certainly did, since he shows us (but not Tyrion) his wrist. Damn it! I really don’t want to see Jorah turned into a dragon. Although, maybe then Khaleesi will love him again.

Oh well, we’re out until next week!

Memorable lines from season 5 episode 5:

“Winter is almost upon us. Kill the boy and let the man be born.” – Maester Aemon

“Don’t worry, the North remembers.” – Ramsey Bolton

“This isn’t a strange place. It’s the people who are strange.” – Sansa Stark

“I’m your son until a better alternative comes along.” – Ramsey Bolton

“You are not my enemy and I am not yours.” – Jon Snow (to Tormund Giantsbane)

“Doom still rules Valyria.” – Tyrion Lannister

“Stone Men! Don’t let them touch you!” – Jorah Mormont

“I’ve seen you ignore your counselors, because there was a better choice, one that only you could see.” – Missandei

“Thankfully a suitor is already on his knees.” – Daenerys Targaryen

Episode 6: “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken” will bring us back to Westeros, as well as Dorne, Braavos, and Winterfell. See you next week, same bat time, same bat channel!

NBC 2015-2016 Schedule and New Series Descriptions

NBC 2015-2016 Primetime Schedule

The Voice will return for season nine, Heroes is reborn, a new Chicago series spinoff is set to launch, and Jennifer Lopez will be playing a New York cop as part of NBC’s upcoming 2015-2016 primetime lineup. The fall schedule also includes another season of Undateable…but with a twist. NBC confirmed the new season of the comedy series will only consist of live episodes.

Among the new comedy offerings will be You, Me and the End of the World starring Parks and Recreations‘ Rob Lowe and Megan Mullally and The Office‘s Jenna Fischer.

NBC’s also getting into the variety show business with Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris, a live show that will feature pranks, musical numbers, giveaways, and skits. Also getting the green light is Little Big Shots from executive producers Ellen DeGeneres and Steve Harvey has Harvey hosting a show featuring “extraordinarily talented kids.”

The new season’s lineup will include returning shows The Blacklist, Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., Grimm, Law & Order: SVU, The Mysteries of Laura, and The Night Shift, as well as unscripted series America Ninja Warrior, America’s Got Talent, The Biggest Loser, The Celebrity Apprentice, Food Fighters, Hollywood Game Night, Last Comic Standing, and Running Wild with Bear Grylls. NBC hasn’t announced whether A.D. The Bible Continues or American Odyssey will be back for second seasons.

“We’re attacking the new season with the same programming strategy that successfully turned NBC around — a slate of provocative and innovative series and events that cut through the clutter and will continue to build on our momentum,” said Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC Entertainment. “We have several powerful new dramas and attention-getting new comedies, including the return of Undateable, which will be broadcast live every week next season. Live programming is one more way to make a show undeniable.”

“We can’t wait for the fall season and the chance to roll out our lineup of distinctive, innovative new dramas and comedies, scheduled with the kind of lead-in support that will give each of our new shows the optimum chance to find their audiences and deliver on their outstanding potential,” said Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment. “The fall lineup gives you only half the story. We truly program on a 52-week basis and are putting virtually the same amount of programming muscle behind our mid-season lineup, with some of the most high-profile concepts and biggest names on television joining the schedule starting at midseason and extending throughout the remainder of the broadcast year.”

2015-16 SERIES DESCRIPTIONS – NEW COMEDIES

COACH – Craig T. Nelson reprises the iconic role that earned him an Emmy in this follow-up to the beloved series that ran for nine seasons. With original creator Barry Kemp at the helm, Hayden Fox’s story picks up 18 years later when the retired coach gets back in the game to assist his son, who was just hired as head coach at an Ivy League university in Pennsylvania… where they know nothing about sports. Between dealing with the eggheads on campus and his hostile daughter-in-law at home, Coach will soon learn that he’s not in Minnesota anymore. Talk about a Hail Mary!

CROWDED – No more sex, booze, and paying the bills naked. After 20 years of parenting, empty nesters Mike (Patrick Warburton) and Martina (Carrie Preston) are finally reclaiming their wild side. Yet when their two grown daughters both unexpectedly move back in, and Mike’s parents scratch their plans to spend their golden years in Florida, their roost is full again. From executive producer Sean Hayes, this new (and very timely) family comedy proves that life is crazy with a full house, especially the second time around.

The cast includes Patrick Warburton, Carrie Preston, Stacy Keach, Carlease Burke, Mia Serafino and Miranda Cosgrove.

HOT & BOTHERED – If you think the steamy sex, sensational scandals and wrenching heartbreak on Latino soap operas are a little extreme, just wait until you see what happens behind the scenes. Eva Longoria stars in this new comedy about Ana Sofia, a sizzling TV superstar and her lively family of cast and crew all competing to steal the spotlight. When the cameras turn off, the drama turns up as Ana battles pesky network execs, drunken script writers, narcissistic co-stars, and an unfortunately familiar new onscreen love interest.

The cast includes Jencarlos Canela, Diana Maria Riva, Jose Moreno Brooks, Alex Meneses, Amaury Nolasco, Jadyn Maria and Izzy Diaz.

People Are Talking Cast Photo

PEOPLE ARE TALKING – If you can think it, they will say it. From producer Will Packer and director Pam Fryman comes this unabashed new comedy about two diverse couples who are both neighbors and best friends. As they go through life side-by-side, they can’t help but analyze and obsess about everything. From topics like sex and race, to the fact that the trusted new babysitter might just be a porn star, nothing is out of bounds for this wildly outspoken foursome.

The cast includes Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Tone Bell and Bresha Webb.

SUPERSTORE – America Ferrera and Ben Feldman star in a hilarious workplace comedy about a unique family of employees at a super-sized megastore. From the bright-eyed newbies and the seen-it-all veterans to the clueless summer hires and in-it-for-life managers, together they hilariously tackle the day-to-day grind of rabid bargain hunters, riot-causing sales and nap-worthy training sessions.

The cast includes Mark McKinney, Lauren Ash, Colton Dunn, Nichole Bloom and Nico Santos.

YOU, ME AND THE END OF THE WORLD – In this bold adrenaline-fueled new one-hour comedy drama, the news that a comet is on an unavoidable collision course with Earth sets in motion the most hilariously unexpected chain of events imaginable. Set against the backdrop of apocalyptic chaos and starring Rob Lowe, Jenna Fischer, Megan Mullally, and Mathew Baynton, the story follows an eclectic group of seemingly unconnected characters around the world as their lives start to intersect in the most unexpected ways. When we say eclectic, we mean a rebellious priest, an unhinged white supremacist, a mild-mannered bank manager, a germ-phobic cyber-terrorist and an American five-star general. Some of these misfits are destined to make it to a bunker deep beneath the English suburbs of Slough and, as a result, will become the hugely unlikely (and totally unsuitable) future of mankind. Wouldn’t that be a disaster!

The cast also includes Joel Fry, Paterson Joseph, Gaia Scodellaro, Pauline Quirke, Fabian McCallum and Kyle Soller.

Blindspot Photo

2015-16 SERIES DESCRIPTIONS – NEW DRAMAS

BLINDSPOT – From executive producer Greg Berlanti comes “Blindspot”: A vast international plot explodes when a beautiful Jane Doe, completely covered in mysterious, intricate tattoos, is discovered naked in Times Square with no memory of who she is or how she got there. But there’s one tattoo that is impossible to miss: the name of FBI agent Kurt Weller, emblazoned across her back. “Jane,” Agent Weller and the rest of the FBI quickly realize that each mark on her body is a crime to solve, leading them closer to the truth about her identity and the mysteries to be revealed.

The cast includes Sullivan Stapleton, Jaimie Alexander, Audrey Esparza, Rob Brown, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Ukweli Roach and Ashley Johnson.

CHICAGO MED – Executive producer Dick Wolf delivers the newest installment of the compelling Chicago franchise, an emotional thrill ride through the day-to-day chaos of the city’s most explosive hospital and the courageous team of doctors who hold it together. They will tackle unique new cases inspired by topical events, forging fiery relationships in the pulse-pounding pandemonium of the emergency room, and through it all, familiar faces from the Chicago police and fire departments will intertwine as this third team of Chicago heroes hits the ground running.

The cast includes Oliver Platt, S. Epatha Merkerson, Laurie Holden, Nick Gehlfuss and Yaya Dacosta.

GAME OF SILENCE – Carol Mendelsohn, executive producer and veteran of the CSI phenomenon, and David Hudgins present a gripping new drama about a successful Atlanta attorney (David Lyons) whose long-lost childhood friends unexpectedly reappear after 25 years. When a dark secret they thought they had buried resurfaces, the brotherhood bands together to right the wrongs of their shared past — a journey that will push the limits of their loyalty and quench their thirst for revenge.

The cast includes David Lyons, Michael Raymond-James, Larenz Tate, Bre Blair, Conor O’Farrell, Deidrie Henry, Demetrius Grosse and Claire Van Der Boom.

HEARTBREAKER – Based on the real life and achievements of Dr. Kathy Magliato, this unique character-driven medical drama follows Dr. Alex Panttiere (Melissa George), an outspoken world-renowned heart-transplant surgeon and one of the few women in her field. Stubborn and fearless, Alex always operates on her own terms. She revels in a racy personal life that’s a full-time job in itself, manages the daily demands of skeptical faculty and dutiful interns, and pushes the boundaries of medical science to impressive new heights.

The cast includes Melissa George, Dave Annable, Don Hany, Shelley Conn, D.L. Hughley, Jamie Kennedy, Maya Erskine, J. Louis Mills and Joshua Leonard.

Heroes Reborn Photo

HEROES REBORN – From original creator Tim Kring, the supernatural phenomenon begins again with a fresh crop of inspiring heroes who take on the ultimate struggle between those with extraordinary abilities and those with nefarious motives to hunt and harness their powers. Epic adventures await these newly empowered allies as they cross paths with some of the original characters (such as the beloved “HRG” and fan-favorite time-traveler Hiro Nakamura), unlocking the mysterious fate of the universe and their place within it.

The cast includes Jack Coleman, Zachary Levi, Masi Oka, Judith Shekoni, Robbie Kay, Henry Zebrowski, Kiki Sukezane, Ryan Guzman, Danika Yarosh, Toru Uchikado, Eve Harlow and Gatlin Green.

THE PLAYER – From the executive producers of The Blacklist and starring Wesley Snipes and Philip Winchester comes an action-packed Las Vegas thriller about a former military operative turned security expert who is drawn into a high-stakes game where an organization of wealthy individuals gamble on his ability to stop some of the biggest crimes imaginable from playing out. Can he take them down from the inside and get revenge for the death of his wife, or is it true what they say: The house always wins.

The cast also includes Charity Wakefield and Damon Gupton.

SHADES OF BLUE – In a provocative new drama, the iconic Jennifer Lopez stars as sexy New York detective (and single mother) Harlee Santos, who fell in with a tight-knit group of dirty cops, taking bribes and protection money that she uses to provide the best life for her honest and talented daughter. When she’s trapped by the FBI, however, and forced to inform on her own “brothers,” she’ll have to walk the fine line between love, loyalty, honor and betrayal, and try to keep it together for her daughter’s future.

The cast also includes Ray Liotta, Warren Kole, Dayo Okeniyi, Drea De Matteo, Hampton Fluker, Vincent Laresca and Sarah Jeffery.

‘Outlander’ Season 1 Episode 14 Recap: “The Search”

Outlander Season One Episode 114 Recap
Caitriona Balfe and Laura Donnelly star in ‘Outlander’ (Photo © 2014 Sony Pictures Television)

Female determination pretty much sums up the 14th episode of season one of Starz’s Outlander. “The Search” begins with Claire (Caitriona Balfe) doing exactly what she told Jamie (Sam Heughan) she would do if he didn’t return from his outing with the Watch. She grabbed him by his “thick red curls” and told him she would hunt him down and drag him back by said curls.

Claire doesn’t realize that Jenny (Laura Donnelly) is doing the very same thing. Having just had a baby girl a few days before, Jenny is not really in an ideal state to ride across the countryside. But tell a Fraser no and that is equal to saying, “Go get’em!” So the lasses saddle up…Tulach Ard!! Claire is able to live off the land having grown up with her uncle, the archeologist. She grew up at dig sites and out in campsites. But she doesn’t know the Scottish countryside as Jenny does, so she really is in no position to argue.

The lasses head toward the location of the ambush where the British took Jamie captive. The Scottish countryside is truly an additional element to this show. Such amazing scenery is gifted to the viewer throughout this entire episode. They find the few Watch men that were killed still lying in the location where Jamie was taken, with birds eating one of the man’s eyes out, how lovely! As the lasses pick up the trail and continue across the country, Jenny has to hold up for a little bit. A clear reminder that she has recently given birth, her breasts are bursting with milk for the baby that is not with her. Any woman who has had a child knows how miserable that milk engorgement feels. I’m sure bobbing along on horseback is just as pleasant only a couple days after delivery. And men had the nerve to think women weak much of the world’s history. {Snort} Not these lasses! They continue tracking them and find the cart and soldiers at last.

They shinny up a ridge to look down at the group, minus one very large ginger-haired Highlander. Jamie is nowhere to be seen among the soldiers. One of the soldiers is handed a letter, so he mounts up and leaves the camp. Jenny and Claire follow. Jenny masterfully faints in front of the horse to stop him and Claire puts a pistol to his head. Next, you see him tied up and the women “interrogating” him. Basically, Jenny brands the man’s bare foot a couple of times with a fire-heated metal musket rod. He is stubborn to keep his tongue, but sure does let out a yell.

Claire hears him say he is only a courier, so she searches his things and finds the letter. It’s asking for reinforcements to search for Jamie because he had escaped. Heartened that he is out of British hands, they rationally consider where he might go… North, well out of reach of the patrols. That’s the master plan!! As they turn back to the soldier, Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) is there slicing his neck with his dirk. So much for witnesses, or the lasses having to decide who would do it.

They make camp for the night. Jenny thinks Claire was judging her for saying that they couldn’t let the soldier live to spread the word of what they were trying to do. Claire tells her that she would have killed him herself if she had to, but Murtagh saved them both the trouble. That night Claire tells Jenny a bit about how she grew up with an archeologist. Jenny tells Claire how she learned to track so well, taught by Ian (Steven Cree) and Jamie.

The next morning Jenny has to go back home to tend the baby. Murtagh is there now, so he and Claire will continue the search. Claire had to tell Jenny something important before she let her go. She tells her to plant potatoes instead of wheat. Claire, always afraid to share too much of the future, simply had to try to prepare Lallybroch for the coming years of hunger and difficulty. Jamie had told Jenny to heed anything that Claire might tell her, even if it sounded odd or crazy. Jenny trusted her brother enough to know it was for the best, and she did listen to Claire’s advice. They embrace and Jenny knows Claire will not stop till she has Jamie with her.

Claire and Murtagh hatch a plan to smoke Jamie out of hiding. Jamie has to find them; they will not be able to find him since he is in hiding. Claire starts out tending people’s illnesses and wounds. Doctors are few and far between, so it draws attention.

Murtagh asks around while she is doing that for news of Jamie. They quickly realize they need to increase their exposure so word of mouth travels faster. Murtagh begins dancing and Claire tells fortunes. They sound an awful lot like the one told to her in episode one by the good reverend’s housekeeper. Still nothing is heard of Jamie. Claire mentions that Murtagh needs to up his entertainment game by adding a tune. She sings a little bit of “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” and Murtagh gets a great idea: enter the singer Sassenach. None of this musical element is in the book, but it sure is entertaining in the show.

They dress Claire up as a boy juggler, with pants and a tri-corner hat to complete the look. She starts singing the same rhythm as the “Bugle Boy” tune, but she has Scottish lyrics. This is a tune that Jamie has known since he was a lad, sung by Dougal (Graham McTavish) when he was drunk. An English woman singing a Scottish tune is a sure way to tell him they are looking for him. They go from village to village, all the time asking if anyone has seen someone with Jamie’s description.

Then they come upon a group doing their little ditty. They are true gypsies who stole the scheme to make money. They confront the gypsies after they finish the show. Claire gives them money, most of what they have left, and begs them to stop doing it. They are trying to reach Jamie and the song is vital to that effort. If another group is doing it they could get Jamie to go to the wrong place. Murtagh doesn’t believe the gypsy, but Claire has to have faith that they will keep to their word not to perform the song again. This makes Murtagh angry and he tells Claire to go back to Lallybroch. Claire reminds him that she is the Lady of Lallybroch and outranks him. She is determined to find Jamie and that is all there is to it.

They continue throughout the country until they get all the way to the far north shore. They camp in a cave for the night, upset and disappointed at not having found Jamie. They both had been keeping it together up to this point, but frustration and emotions have them both on the edge. Murtagh tells Claire the story of the love of his life that he lost after Claire wounds him by saying he had never lost anyone. It happens that this lost love was a lass who he gave a set of tusk bracelets to on her wedding day, that same set that Jenny gave to Claire at the end of the last episode (they belonged to Jenny’s mother). Claire pulls them out and shows them to Murtagh. They both breakdown about the pain they are feeling at losing Jamie.

The next morning, a new understanding between them, they decide to go back to the beginning and start over. While in a tavern the gypsies show back up with a message. Someone found them and asked they meet them at a certain location. They make for the meeting place in all speed. When they arrive they think they will find Jamie, but in fact they find Dougal and some of his men.

Dougal, up to his political tricks, has a few things stored up for the rebellion he is hoping will come. But Dougal admits that he does know where Jamie is. He tells Claire and Murtagh that Jamie has been taken to Wentworth Prison. All of those who have read the book weep at the thought. Dougal has another proposition for Claire. He asks her to marry him, but Claire figures out all his scheming motives behind the proposal. He has a few valid points as to why she should do it, but this sends Claire into a rage. She pretty much calls him out on all of his crap. It’s surprising that Dougal lets her say all that to him. He doesn’t exactly strike me as the type of man to take lip from a woman, but he takes it off Claire. And she is completely right!

Dougal is manipulated by Claire into allowing her to ask his men to go with her. She agrees to marry him if Jamie is killed. She doesn’t agree to marry him in the book, but the reasons laid out in the show make sense for the time period. Claire does shame some of the men into coming with her and Murtagh. And NOW, off to Wentworth Prison… Anyone else have a shudder run through their bones? I most certainly cannot say Je Suis Prest, in all honesty! I am SO NOT ready for what is coming. Claire, synch up your corset girl…danger awaits. I’ll be watching these next two episodes from behind a pillow. Who is with me?!

‘Backcountry’ Movie Review

Backcountry Movie Review

Writer-director Adam MacDonald’s Backcountry is an intense thriller that may make you permanently postpone the camping trip in the woods you were planning on taking. If Werner Herzog’s 2005 documentary Grizzly Man didn’t drive home the fact that bears in the wild are not our friends, then Backcountry will definitely get the point across.

The film follows a young couple who decide to spend what they believe will be a romantic weekend in the woods. It’s off-season and they’re not anticipating running into many other hikers, and so when a strange man (Eric Balfour) wanders into their camp armed with a large knife and offering up fish to fry, they’re startled and made suddenly aware of the area’s remoteness. Jenn (Missy Peregrym), the more trusting of the two, invites him to stay for dinner while Alex (Jeff Roop) is wary and obviously wishing he’d come better prepared for potentially dangerous encounters.

The following morning Jenn and Alex venture further into the woods, looking for a specific camping spot Alex fondly remembers from his childhood visits to the area. Alex refused to accept a map from the park ranger when they checked in – insert your favorite ‘men not wanting to ask for directions’ comment here – and he deliberately hid Jenn’s cell phone in the trunk of their car without her knowledge before they set out on their hike. It’s therefore unsurprising when the couple end up lost and wandering in circles. Jenn wasn’t wholeheartedly into the camping adventure the way Alex was from the get-go, and becoming lost in the wild only serves to reinforce her initial uneasiness about the short vacation.

Unfortunately, Alex’s stubbornness mixed with his desire to share his childhood love for a specific remote spot in the wilderness puts the couple in grave danger as they unknowingly place themselves in the middle of bear country.

MacDonald made smart casting choices with his two leads as the film rests squarely on Missy Peregrym and Jeff Roop’s shoulders. They both do terrific jobs of making the audience care about this couple who discover they’re in way over their heads when they take a trip into the Canadian wilds. It’s easy to buy Peregrym and Roop as a couple, and it doesn’t take any suspension of belief to connect with (but hopefully not relate to) their predicament. The film is realistic, and at times grotesque, and always believable thanks to the smart script, skilled direction, and Peregrym and Roop’s intense performances.

MacDonald’s Backcountry is alternately frustrating and terrifying, but the frustration doesn’t come from any flaws in the script. It comes from understanding this couple, knowing people just like them, and wanting to warn them all of their bad decisions are going to come back to bite them in the butt. These aren’t your normal horror movie idiots who run mindlessly full steam ahead into a potentially dangerous situation. No, Jenn and Alex are flawed, three-dimensional characters who make legitimate mistakes. And while they do break a few rules of camping, there are real reasons behind the decisions they make.

What’s most satisfying about Backcountry is how writer/director MacDonald is able to keep up the level of suspense for most of the film, allowing the tension to build up before the actual introduction of a bear into the story. There’s nothing rushed about the way the story unspools, and time is given to allow Jenn and Alex to become characters the audience genuinely cares about before the bear makes an appearance. Twigs snap and you just know that bear is lurking somewhere out of frame, watching Jenn and Alex as they get further away from anyone who can help. And when the bear does arrive, the tension level ratchets up and it’s impossible to look away from the screen.

Once a strong and powerful Shadowhunter, he has since become the thing he once hated most – a werewolf pack leader.

NBC Cancels ‘Constantine’ After One Season

The season one finale turned out to be the series finale for NBC’s Constantine starring Matt Ryan, Angelica Celaya, and Charles Halford. Executive producer David Cerone tweeted the news today, but he’s still holding out hope the series could rise from the dead on a different network.

NBC never gave the show an additional episode order during season one, and the series’ finale only drew in 3 million viewers so the writing was on the wall. Unfortunately, Constantine just didn’t catch on with viewers despite the first-rate cast and behind-the-scenes crew. The series, which was based on the Hellblazer comics, premiered on October 24, 2014.
