Steven Cree Joins the ‘Outlander’ Cast

Outlander has found its Ian Murray. Starz has welcomed Steven Cree to the cast of the upcoming much-anticipated series based on the critically acclaimed book series by Diana Gabaldon. He joins a cast led by Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan and featuring Laura Donnelly, Lotte Verbeek, Tobias Menzies, Graham McTavish, Gary Lewis, Duncan Lacroix, Annette Badland, and Stephen Walters.

Here’s Starz’s official announcement on Facebook: “Spread the news, Outlanders! The watch for Ian is officially over. Steven Cree will be playing Jenny’s husband and Jamie’s best friend since childhood, Ian Murray. Ian lost part of his leg during battle with the English but that hasn’t held him back in his life. He is very close to his wife and best friend, and welcomes Claire into the family.”

The Plot: The Outlander series spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history, and adventure in one epic tale. It follows the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743, where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

Stephen Colbert Takes Over The Late Show

CBS has made a five-year deal with Stephen Colbert to take over hosting duties on The Late Show after David Letterman retires. Colbert, who won’t be doing The Late Show in character, confirmed the deal, saying, “Simply being a guest on David Letterman’s show has been a highlight of my career. I never dreamed that I would follow in his footsteps, though everyone in late night follows Dave’s lead.”
 
He added, “I’m thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth.”
 
Letterman will be retiring in 2015 after 21 years of hosting CBS’s late night show, and it’ll be up to him to determine the date of his final broadcast. As for specific details on the Colbert-hosted Late Show, CBS says the location and producers will be “determined and announced at a later date.”

We welcome Stephen to CBS with great pride and excitement, and look forward to introducing him to our network television viewers in late night.”
 
Colbert currently hosts Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report which has earned 27 Emmy nominations with four wins. Colbert’s also the author of two bestselling books and he won a Grammy for his original holiday musical special, A Colbert Christmas.

Colin Firth had the honor of meeting with the real World War II veteran he portrays in the dramatic film The Railway Man, and in this new featurette he talks about how that meeting had an impact on how he felt about the project. Sadly, the real Eric Lomax passed away while the film was in post-production and didn’t get the opportunity to see the finished feature film based on his incredible life.

In addition to Firth, The Railway Man cast includes Nicole Kidman, Jeremy Irvine, and Stellan Skarsgard. The Weinstein Company is releasing The Railway Man in theaters on April 11, 2014.

The Plot:

Based on the remarkable bestselling autobiography, The Railway Man tells the extraordinary and epic true story of Eric Lomax (Colin Firth), a British Army officer who is tormented as a prisoner of war at a Japanese labor camp during World War II. Decades later, Lomax and his beautiful love interest Patti (Nicole Kidman) discover that the Japanese interpreter responsible for much of his treatment is still alive and set out to confront him, and his haunting past, in this powerful and inspiring tale of heroism, humanity and the redeeming power of love.

Jared Leto and Megan Fox Will Present at the MTV Movie Awards

Newly crowned Oscar winner Jared Leto, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ Megan Fox, Jordana Brewster, Rita Ora, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (of the upcoming Godzilla movie) are confirmed to present at the 2014 MTV Movie Awards. Conan O’Brien’s hosting the show which will air live on the East Coast at 9pm on April 13th.

The network also confirmed nominees Orlando Bloom, Josh Hutcherson, Sam Claflin, Johnny Knoxville, and Ice Cube will be at the awards show.

Already announced presenters include the cast of Entourage, Lupita Nyong’o, Adam Levine, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Chris Pratt, Miles Teller, Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Dave Franco, Amanda Seyfried, Seth Macfarlane, Mila Kunis, Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Kate Upton, and Nicki Minaj, as well as nominees Backstreet Boys Brian Littrell and AJ McLean, Will Poulter, Michael B. Jordan, Jackson Nicoll, and Liam James.

Musical acts include the team of Eminem and Rihanna singing “The Monster” for the first time live. Zedd and Ellie Goulding will be singing songs off of the Divergent soundtrack, and twenty one pilots will be performing the single, “Car Radio.”

In addition to the normal awards, special honors will go to Channing Tatum (the third annual “MTV Trailblazer Award”) and Mark Wahlberg (the “MTV Generation Award”).

‘Under the Dome’ New Season 2 Trailer

Talking about season two of CBS’s hit summer series Under the Dome, series creator Brian K. Vaughan says, “The second season is going to take us to places where the book never got to go.” Which is actually a weird comment as the book and series had only a couple of things in common: the title, the dome, and the names of the characters.

The plot and even personalities of the characters had little to nothing in common with Stephen King’s book. Still, King is actively participating in the series and even wrote the first episode of season two. And in a shocker, the teaser reveals King will be killing off two Dome favorites in the season two premiere.

Under the Dome‘s second season premieres this summer.

Karen Gillan Talks About ‘Oculus’

Writer/director Mike Flanagan is a huge Doctor Who fan and pursued Karen Gillan (‘Amy Pond’) for the lead role of Kaylie Russell in Oculus. Fortunately for Flanagan (and other Doctor Who fans), Gillan loved the premise and the script and signed on to play a young woman who’s certain her parents were killed by supernatural inhabitants of an antique mirror.

And in this interview courtesy of Relativity Media, Gillan discusses what it was that drew her in, how this film separates itself from other genre pictures, her character, and getting into the role. She also talks about the mirror that plays a key part in the overall story.

Oculus opens in theaters on April 11, 2014.

The Plot: Ten years ago, tragedy struck the Russell family, leaving the lives of teenage siblings Tim and Kaylie forever changed when Tim was convicted of the brutal murder of their parents. Now in his 20s, Tim is newly released from protective custody and only wants to move on with his life; but Kaylie, still haunted by that fateful night, is convinced her parents’ deaths were caused by something else altogether: a malevolent supernatural force ¬ unleashed through the Lasser Glass, an antique mirror in their childhood home.

Determined to prove Tim’s innocence, Kaylie tracks down the mirror, only to learn similar deaths have befallen previous owners over the past century. With the mysterious entity now back in their hands, Tim and Kaylie soon find their hold on reality shattered by terrifying hallucinations, and realize, too late, that their childhood nightmare is beginning again…

Decoding Annie Parker Trailer

Writer/director Steven Bernstein’s Decoding Annie Parker earned the Best Actress (Samantha Morton) award at the Seattle Film Festival and the Alfred P. Sloan Award at the Hamptons Film Festival, and will be entering theaters on May 2, 2014. In support of its upcoming release, Yahoo Movies is showing off a new trailer from the dramatic film based on true events and featuring Morton, Helen Hunt, Aaron Paul, Corey Stoll, Alice Eve, Marley Shelton, Ben McKenzie, and Maggie Grace.

The Plot:

It is the story of Anne Parker, a sharp-witted, funny, and irrepressible young woman who watches her mother, then sister, fall victim to breast cancer. When, later, she herself is diagnosed with the disease, she is resolved to fight back against immeasurable odds.

The film is also the story of Mary-Claire King, the geneticist whose discovery of the BRCA1 gene and its link to breast cancer forever changed the understanding of human disease. Hers is considered one of the most important scientific discoveries of the 20th century.

These two women are separated by thousands of miles, by circumstance, background, and education, and yet, as told in the film, their two lives gradually intertwine until a final, singular and life-changing reckoning.

MTV hosts this new clip from the action epic Hercules starring Dwayne Johnson in the title role. The 45 second-long clip doesn’t really give away much of the plot, nor does it show off much of the action, but it does allow viewers a better look at Johnson in his Hercules costume.
 
In addition to Johnson, the Hercules cast includes Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan and John Hurt. Hercules will arrive in theaters on July 25, 2014.

Eric Church announced he’ll be kicking off his 2014 The Outsiders World Tour on September 11th in Bossier City, Louisiana. Dwight Yoakam will be joining Church on the road as a special guest, and Brothers Osborne, Brandy Clark, and Halestorm will be alternating as opening acts as Church travels throughout the US and Canada through the end of the year as part of the first leg of The Outsiders tour.

Eric Church’s current album, The Outsiders, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart and the Billboard Country Albums Chart earlier this year, and his current hit single “Give Me Back My Hometown,” is Top 5-and-rising. “Eric Church is working on a level that few other country artists of his generation can touch,” said Ken Tucker at NPR Music in his review of the album, continuing, “Shrewd, defiant, sly and funny, Eric Church has succeeded in what he set out to do: He’s using the power he’s accrued from making hit records to make exactly the kind of album he wants, heedless of industry approval. And this is how good he is: Now he’ll go out and — through the singles he’ll release, the touring he’ll do and the videos he’ll make — probably turn this personal project into a big commercial deal. The Outsiders deserves nothing less.”

The Outsiders is the follow-up to Church’s Platinum-certified album Chief, (named the 2012 Album of the Year by both CMA and ACM, and GRAMMY-nominated for Best Country Album) which featured five Top 20 singles: “Homeboy” (certified Platinum for sales in excess of one million singles); the Top 10 “Like Jesus Does” and the Top 5 “Creepin’” (both certified Gold for sales in excess of 500,000 singles each); and two No. 1 hits “Drink in My Hand” (certified Platinum) and “Springsteen” (certified Double Platinum for sales in excess of two million singles).

Church’s debut album, Sinners Like Me (2006) and his sophomore album Carolina (2009) are both RIAA Gold-certified. Carolina had three hit singles: the Top 10 “Hell on the Heart” as well as Top 20 hit “Smoke A Little Smoke” and Top 10 smash “Love Your Love The Most,” which were both certified Gold. Sinners Like Me spawned three Top 20 singles: “How ‘Bout You,” “Two Pink Lines,” and “Guys Like Me.”

Cesar Millan’s Cesar 911 will be back for a second season on Nat Geo WILD. The dog whisperer will return to help out neighborhoods that have problems with their four-legged residents, with filming expected to take place in season two this spring.

Cesar 911 proved so popular with viewers that it now ranks as the 2nd highest-rated series in Nat Geo WILD’s history. “I am very happy with the public’s positive response to season one of Cesar 911,” said Millan. “I am looking forward to continuing my partnership with Nat Geo WILD and am excited to have the chance to help more friends, neighbors and community members in the next season of the show!”

The Plot:
