Cesar Millan Stands Up for Pit Bulls

Pit Bulls have gotten a bum rap as overly aggressive and violent, and dog whisperer Cesar Millan is attempting to stand up for the much-maligned, misunderstood breed with a new TV special. Millan is starring in a Nat Geo WILD special titled Cesar Millan: Love My Pit Bull airing on Friday, April 18, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT.

According to Millan, Pit Bulls and the other ‘bully breeds’ aren’t bad dogs at all and they – along with the humans who own them – just need to be trained.

“It’s not the breed that makes a good companion. All dogs are great companions. Communication creates a partnership and dogs have the simplest communication on the planet. For them, everything is about trust, respect, and love,” said Millan.

Details on Love My Pit Bull:

There was a time when the pit bull was one of the most popular family pets in the country. President Theodore Roosevelt, Gen. George Patton and Helen Keller all owned pits. But today, the breeds are more closely associated with gangs and violent dogfighting. Pit bulls have recently been responsible for more fatal attacks on humans than any other type of dog, making them among the most vilified — and unwanted — dogs in America. But are they really more dangerous or naturally aggressive than other breeds? Or should humans and bad training share more of the blame?

In the revealing special, viewers will learn about the history of pit bulls, dating back to the 1800s, in which pit bulls were commonly used on farms and cattle ranches to herd animals. They were even trusted to watch the children while the adults worked the field. In England, for example, the Staffordshire bull terrier was so good with kids, it became known as “The Nanny Dog.” It’s a quality Millan often saw in his own pit bull, Daddy.

Often abused or abandoned, today pit bulls are euthanized at a far higher rate than any other dog. Overbreeding, improper training and neglect force about 1 million pit bulls to be put down each year — more than 2,000 a day. For Millan, rescuing the pit bull from near extermination is a cause worthy of his time and attention.

If anything, Millan’s years with his former co-star and best pit bull pal, Daddy, taught the internationally acclaimed dog expert that pit bulls are not the aggressive monsters that their detractors claim they are. In fact, they are highly intelligent and, with proper training, can be loyal and loving companions. Inspired by his personal experiences with Daddy, the special showcases Millan meeting with pit bull trainers, advocates and dog owners to gain a greater knowledge and understanding of these unique and misunderstood breeds and seeks to share that message with the world.

First Look: Robin Lord Taylor in Gotham Photo

Fox’s Gotham has released this first photo of Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot (aka The Penguin). The Fox series is based on the popular DC Entertainment characters and focuses on Police Commissioner James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and the criminals who will ultimately become Batman’s nemeses. Batman, however, will not be featured in the upcoming series.

Here’s the official description of Oswald Cobblepot: With the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal, Oswald Cobblepot is a low-level psychopath (for gangster Fish Mooney) who hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor.

‘Rosemary’s Baby’ Debuts a Poster and Teaser Trailer

Rosemary's Baby Poster and Teaser Trailer

Calling the video for Rosemary’s Baby a “teaser trailer” is kind of a stretch. It’s more like an animated poster that lasts about 10 seconds. However, call it what you will, it’s still the first official video for the upcoming event series based on the bestselling novel by Ira Levin.

Zoe Saldana takes on the role of Rosemary played by Mia Farrow in the classic 1968 horror movie directed by Roman Polanski. The cast of the NBC series, which supposedly is an updated version of the novel that will be faithful to Levin’s work rather than a remake of the Polanski movie, also includes Jason Isaacs, Patrick J Adams, and Carole Bouquet.

(Edited: The teaser is no longer available online.)

For Those Who Can’t Get Enough of Jack Bauer…

24 Live Another Day Comic Book Series24: Live Another Day will premiere on May 5, 2014 on Fox, but you don’t have to wait that long for the special Jack Bauer comic book from IDW and 20th Century Fox. The comic book series is coming out in April and will pick up where the finale of 24 left off. According to IDW, the comics will lead into the events featured in 24: Live Another Day.

The comic book series was written by Ed Brisson (Secret Avengers) and artist Michael Gaydos (Alias).

“Ed burst onto the comics scene with the sci-fi thriller Comeback, which was heavy on plot and adventure, a style that fits nicely with an established property such as 24,” explained editor Denton J. Tipton says. “We’ve paired the rising star with veteran artist Michael Gaydos, whose draftsmanship and storytelling skills are second to none. Buckle up for a high-octane tale of Jack Bauer’s missing years!”

24 was one of IDW’s earliest successes with licensed comics,” says Greg Goldstein, IDW President and Chief Operating Officer. “And the show’s stature has grown immensely since then. Returning to the world of 24 in comics, in conjunction with this highly anticipated return to TV, makes perfect sense.”

24: Live Another Day stars Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer and will take the action to London where he must thwart a terrorist attack. The cast also includes Mary Lynn Rajskub, Kim Raver, William Devane, Yvonne Strahovski, Giles Matthey, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Michael Wincott, Michelle Fairley, and Stephen Fry.

Fox has a special two-hour premiere set for May 5th at 8pm ET/PT.
