Season one of Apple TV+’s genre-blending drama Sugar ended with the lead character deciding not to return home and instead sticking around to hunt down a rogue compatriot. (Keeping it vague for those who haven’t yet watched season one.) Now, Apple TV+ has confirmed fans will get the opportunity to spend more time with the film-loving detective played by Colin Farrell, renewing the series for a second season.

“It has been incredibly exciting to see audiences around the world embrace Sugar, and we are thrilled to return for a second season,” stated executive producers Audrey Chon and Simon Kinberg. “We’re so grateful to our partners at Apple for their support, our showrunner Sam Catlin, the brilliant Colin Farrell, and of course, our viewers. We can’t wait to get John Sugar back on the case.”

In addition to Oscar nominee Colin Farrell, the season one cast included Kirby, Amy Ryan, James Cromwell, Anna Gunn, Dennis Boutsikaris, Nate Corddry, Sydney Chandler, and Alex Hernandez. Given the events of season one, many of the first season’s stars won’t be returning for the new season.

“Since its premiere, audiences have been gripped by the mysteries and twists of Sugar, with an incredible performance by Colin Farrell at the center,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+. “Colin, Simon Kinberg, Audrey Chon, and the entire team behind this series have brilliantly blended genres to create a compelling, can’t-miss series that keeps viewers guessing, and we cannot wait to see where Detective John Sugar finds himself in season two.”

Apple TV+ released this description of the series: “Starring and executive produced by Farrell, Sugar is a contemporary, unique take on one of the most popular and significant genres in literary, motion picture and television history: the private detective story. After the events of season one, season two will see Sugar back in Los Angeles, taking on another missing persons case as he continues to look for answers surrounding his missing sister.”

Sam Catlin will serve as the season two showrunner and executive produce under his Short Drive Entertainment banner. Additional executive producers include Scott Greenberg, Chip Vucelich, and Genre Films’ Audrey Chon and Simon Kinberg. Mark Protosevich created the series.

Accused Description, Courtesy of Fox

Accused is a collection of intense, topical and human stories of crime and punishment. Each episode is a fast-paced provocative thriller, exploring a different crime, in a different city, with an entirely original cast. Based on the BBC’s BAFTA-winning crime anthology, each episode opens in a courtroom on the defendant, with viewers knowing nothing about their crime or how they ended up on trial.

Told from the defendant’s point of view through flashbacks, the show holds a mirror up to current times with evocative and emotional stories. In the end, audiences will discover how an ordinary person gets caught up in extraordinary circumstances, and how one impulsive decision can impact the course of that life – and the lives of others — forever.

‘Babygirl’ Trailer: Nicole Kidman Sparks a Scandalous Affair in A24’s Steamy Erotic Thriller

Oscar winner Nicole Kidman stars as Romy, a high-powered CEO who jeopardizes her family and career when she starts an affair with Samuel, a younger intern (Harris Dickinson), in A24’s Babygirl. The official trailer shows the early flirtations that quickly escalate to a steamy, illicit affair.

What does that mean and what does that look like?” stated writer/director Halina Reijn (Bodies Bodies Bodies).

The cast also includes Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me) as Esme, Romy’s assistant, and Antonio Banderas as Romy’s husband, Jacob. Reijn’s behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Jasper Wolf, production designer Stephen Carter, editor Matthew Hannam, and costume designers Kurt Swanson and Bart Mueller.

‘Ghosts’ Season 4 Episode 1 Preview: Photos, Plot, Teaser and Air Date

CBS’s Ghosts kicks off its fourth season by picking up the story of Patience, the Puritan ghost who dragged Isaac into the dirt after he called off his wedding in the season three finale. Season four premieres on October 17, 2024, with new episodes airing on Thursdays at 8:30pm ET/PT.

“[Patience] brings some fun energy. We kind of lean into a little bit sort of, like, a horror trope,” said co-showrunner Joe Wiseman in an interview with TVLine. “She’s meant to be funny but also a little scary. She’s someone who’s sort of out for revenge and has taken one of our characters. So she brings a nice flavor that we haven’t seen a whole lot of at Woodstone.”

Mary Holland will be guest starring in season four as the Puritan ghost who Isaac unintentionally left to wander in the dirt a long time ago. Returning series stars include Rose McIver as Sam, Utkarsh Ambudkar as Jay, Brandon Scott Jones as Isaac, and Richie Moriarty as Pete. Danielle Pinnock plays Alberta, Asher Grodman is Trevor, Román Zaragoza is Sasappis, Rebecca Wisocky plays Hetty, Devan Chandler Long stars as Thorfinn, and Sheila Carrasco is Flower.

“Patience” Plot: While Sam and the ghosts race to find him, Isaac comes face to face with Puritan ghost Patience (Holland) for the first time since she was lost in the dirt. Richie Keen directs from a script by Trey Kollmer.

Ghosts Description, Courtesy of CBS:

Ghosts is a single-camera comedy about Samantha and Jay, a cheerful freelance journalist and up-and-coming chef from the city, respectively, who threw both caution and money to the wind when they decided to convert Woodstone Mansion, which Sam inherited, into a bed & breakfast – only to find it was inhabited by the many spirits of deceased residents who now call it home.

The departed souls are a close-knit, eclectic group that includes a saucy Prohibition-era lounge singer (Danielle Pinnock); a pompous 18th-century militiaman (Brandon Scott Jones); a ‘60s hippie fond of hallucinogens (Sheila Carrasco); an overly upbeat ‘80s scout troop leader (Richie Moriarty); a cod-obsessed Viking explorer from 1009 (Devon Chandler Long); a slick ‘90s finance bro (Asher Grodman); a sarcastic and witty native from the 16th-century (Román Zaragoza); and a society woman and wife of a 19th-century robber baron who is Sam’s ancestor (Rebecca Wisocky), to name a few. The opening of the B&B has been a source of intrigue, anxiety, and curiosity among the spirits, but they will gladly put up with the commotion as long as they can continue to interact with a living inhabitant.
