OneRepublic and Sara Bareilles Contribute Songs to the Son of God‘s Soundtrack

Son of God SoundtrackCeelo Green, OneRepublic, Sara Bareilles, and The Fray will be featured on the soundtrack to Son of God, the dramatic film heading to theaters on February 28, 2014. Republic Records will release the soundtrack, with tracks composed by Oscar winner Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe, in stores and online on February 25th.
 
“The music and talent on this soundtrack is truly such an incredible part of telling this story.” said producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett. “The great Hans Zimmer has been an inspiration since the beginning and now we are excited to be able to add even more voices to Son of God and engage our audience through music that they have yet to experience.”
 
“Son of God is a film that Mark and Roma were called to create. Every detail of this film has their meticulous approval for authenticity and accuracy,” explained Republic Records’ executive vice president Tom Mackay. “They applied that same passion and attention to detail with the soundtrack as well. All of us at Republic Records are thrilled that Mark and Roma chose us as their label partner to help create this soundtrack and partner with them on its release.”

TNT Won’t Be Revisiting Mob City

The six episode first season of Mob City is all there will be of the crime drama, according to TNT. Created by Frank Darabont (The Walking Dead), TNT has opted not to move forward with more episodes of the show which debuted in December and never caught on with viewers. There was a lot of buzz surrounding the series prior to its launch, but ratings remained soft throughout its six episode run.
 
“Mob City was created as a three-week television event and we are incredibly proud of the six hours we presented of this remarkable drama,” stated a TNT spokesperson said. “Although the ratings of the limited series haven’t warranted more hours we are eager to work with Frank Darabont again and were delighted to bring the vibrant world of Mob City to life.”
 
The series starred The Walking Dead alum Jon Bernthal and Milo Ventimiglia, Neal McDonough, Alexa Davalos, Jeffrey DeMunn, Gregory Itzin, Robert Knepper, Jeremy Luke, and Ed Burns.
 
The Mob City Plot:
 
Based on the critically acclaimed book L.A. Noir: The Struggle for the Soul of America’s Most Seductive City by John Buntin, Mob City is set in post-war Los Angeles, home to glamorous movie stars, powerful studio heads and returning war heroes. But it’s also a city caught between a powerful and corrupt police force and an even more dangerous criminal network determined to make L.A. its West Coast base.

Darlene Love’s Life Story Picked Up by OWN

My Name is Darlene Love Autobiography Coming to OWN

Darlene Love, one of the talented singers featured in the Oscar-nominated documentary 20 Feet From Stardom, will have her story told on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN. The network snagged the film rights to Love’s memoir My Name is Love: The Darlene Love Story, with Winfrey and 20 Feet From Stardom‘s director Morgan Neville on board to executive produce.

The Darlene Love biopic marks OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network’s first foray into original scripted movies. The network will also broadcast 20 Feet From Stardom, the true story of some of the best back-up singers in the music industry’s history, in 2015.

“The fantastic life journey of music great Darlene Love is the perfect choice for our first original scripted movie,” said Sheri Salata, president, OWN. “There are a handful of stories brought to the screen of daring American women who walked through fire and back to make their dreams come true and Darlene is one of the heroes on that list. From her first hit song to her darkest days cleaning houses in Beverly Hills to make ends meet, to the triumphant comeback that made rock and roll history, Darlene is a true living legend who worked with many of the greatest talents in music from Elvis Presley and Tom Jones to Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin and Bruce Springsteen.”

Details on Darlene Love’s Memoir:

Right out of high school, Love began cutting records for legendary producer Phil Spector. As part of The Blossoms, she was a regular on the hit 1960s TV show “Shindig!,” and toured the country as part of Bob B. Soxx & the Blue Jeans. As lead vocalist for The Blossoms, she rose to fame for their unforgettable sound and harmonies. Later, she sang backup for acts that included The Mamas and The Papas, Dionne Warwick, and Sonny and Cher, and along the way, collected scintillating backstage stories.

Whether it was the wild parties Tom Jones used to throw, how Elvis came on to her backstage at his 1968 comeback special, or her love affair with Bill Medley of The Righteous Brothers, Love holds nothing back as she recalls the exciting events that make up her life. This is the dishy and dramatic story of a woman who had it all, lost it all, but never, ever refused to give up.




The Walking Dead Snags Ratings Gold from the Olympics

Zombies proved to be too much competition for figure skating and ice dancers as the return of AMC’s fourth season of The Walking Dead premiered to 15.8 million viewers. That was enough to knock NBC’s coverage of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics off of the top spot on the ratings chart and enough to earn The Walking Dead the title of the “#1 telecast for the night among adults 18-49.”
 
The Walking Dead‘s mid-season break had no effect on the number of people who tuned in for the series, and including time-shifted playback (DVRs, Tivo, OnDemand, etc), the premiere should pass the 20 million viewers mark.
 
“With a number of high-profile choices on television last night, for The Walking Dead to deliver record ratings is remarkable. Thanks to the fans, who have been so supportive of this show in so many ways. We share your passion for this world,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “Thanks also to the terrific team of writers, starting with Scott Gimple and Robert Kirkman, who with our outstanding executive producers, cast and crew pour their hearts into this series, always with the fans in mind. Shouldn’t that be “chocolate pudding for everyone except zombies?”
 
On social media, The Walking Dead dominated Twitter with 1.24 million show-related tweets.

George Thorogood & The Destroyers will be celebrating their 40th anniversary with a U.S. and Canadian tour kicking off on February 27, 2014 in Las Vegas. The tour will begin in the US, head to Canada, and then back to the US where it’ll finish up on July 20th in Mankato, MN.

The band will be performing some of their greatest hits including “Bad To The Bone,” “I Drink Alone,” “Who Do You Love,” and “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer.”

Says guitar legend Slash, “George Thorogood’s genuine style and attitude continue to inspire me as he and The Destroyers rock on into their 40(th) year. He has been a hero of mine since I first heard his music in the 70s and is one of the baddest rock ‘n’ roll songwriters/electric slide guitar players ever.”

“For 40 years, I’ve had the privilege and pleasure of sharing the stage with George many times, and what started as admiration has grown into a deep love and respect for the man, his music, his band, and his spirit. He is truly an original,” added Steve Miller.

Dolly Parton Announces New Album and 2014 World Tour Dates

Dolly Parton is showing no signs of slowing down. The Grammy-winning Oscar-nominated singer/songwriter has a new album, Blue Smoke, coming out on May 13, 2014 and she’ll be on the road promoting it beginning February 11th. The Blue Smoke World Tour will kick off in Melbourne, stopping in Adelaide, Sydney, and Brisbane before heading to the US in May.

After seven US concert dates, Parton will head to the UK and Europe for 21 stops. The Blue Smoke World Tour will finish up on July 11th in Stockholm, Sweden.

“On this CD I think there are all of the colors of my life in all the areas of music that you’ve allowed me to dabble in through the years,” said Dolly Parton. “You will hear my old world mountain voice on songs like ‘Banks of The Ohio’ and ‘If I Had Wings,’ my tender side on songs like ‘Miss You – Miss Me’ and ‘Unlikely Angel.’ My country / bluegrass side of songs like ‘Home,’ ‘Blue Smoke’ and ‘Don’t Think Twice’ and my funny tongue-in-cheek side on ‘Lover du Jour.'”

A&E Flips for Wahlburgers

Wahlburgers Extended for 18 More Episodes

The Wahlberg brothers’ reality series Wahlburgers will be sticking around for at least 18 more episodes. A&E is happy with the show and its ratings, and has given the series about the Boston area restaurant an extended episode order.
 
Mark, Donnie and Paul star in the series which provides an inside look into their burger restaurant business. Wahlburgers debuted on January 22nd and is now averaging 3.5 million viewers.
 
“Viewers are responding to the heartwarming dynamics of Boston’s first family as they balance living in the Hollywood spotlight and growing a business,” said David McKillop, General Manager and Executive Vice President of A&E. “We look forward to seeing what the Wahlbergs cook up next.”
 
The Plot:
 
Wahlburgers gives a behind-the-scenes look into one of Boston’s most well-known families, the Wahlbergs. Brothers Mark and Donnie head back to their hometown to join forces with their professed ‘most talented sibling,’ Paul, in their tasty business venture. A homage to their humble beginnings, the hamburger restaurant is home base for the gang from the old neighborhood, including the real Johnny “Drama” and their spirited mother Alma.

New Poster Arrives for Under the Skin with Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson stars in director Jonathan Glazer’s new sci-fi drama Under the Skin coming to theaters in April 2014. The Sexy Beast director’s latest movie is based on the Michel Faber novel and has already had a run on the festival circuit, earning nominations for Glazer as best director and Johansson as best actress at the British Independent Film Awards. Under the Skin also earned best film nominations at the 2013 London Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival.
 
The Plot:
 
From visionary director Jonathan Glazer comes a stunning career transformation, a masterpiece of existential science fiction that journeys to the heart of what it means to be human, extraterrestrial — or something in between. Bruce Springsteen Announces New Tour Dates The Boss will be making his US fans happy with the announcement that he’s added 15 more shows to his 2014 tour. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will be following up their concerts in New Zealand and South Africa with stops in US cities including Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, and Georgia.
 
The new dates will go on sale via TicketMaster.com this month.

NBC Reveals Jimmy Fallon’s First Week Guests on The Tonight Show

Jimmy Fallon officially takes over as the host of NBC’s The Tonight Show on February 17, 2014 and he’ll kick off his first show with Will Smith and U2. Smith’s been in the news recently with Deadline breaking the news that the two-time Oscar nominee won’t be returning for Independence Day 2.
 
The rest of the week’s lineup includes:
