A scene from '20,000 Days on Earth'Hot off its win in the best directing and best editing categories at the Sundance Film Festival, the documentary 20,000 Days on Earth has been picked up for North American distribution. Drafthouse Films is eyeing a 2014 theatrical release of the film which features musician Nick Cave.
Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard made their feature film debut with 20,000 Days on Earth. Nick Cave and Warren Ellis composed the original score, and James Wilson and Dan Bowen served as producers.
Forsyth and Pollard actually began filming Cave as he was writing 2013’s Push the Sky Away without knowing what they would ultimately do with the footage. Cave also gave them access to his personal notebooks. “We were able to trace the transformation of his ideas,” said Forsyth. “We found disparate phrases which instantly sparked ideas that excited us. This included a calculation to work out how many days he had been alive on the day they started recording the album, next to the unusually coined phrase ‘20,000 days on earth.'”
Pollard added, “We began to work with the idea of what makes us who we are and what we do with our time on earth.”
“I’ve always liked their unorthodox approach to things,” explained Cave about the filmmakers.
“I am among many who consider Nick Cave the unofficial poet laureate of the modern age,” said Drafthouse Films founder Tim League. “While his music fans are already eagerly anticipating this release, I am personally excited to share this riveting portrait of a modern creative genius with a much wider audience.”

After a failed pitch to billionaire venture capitalist Peter Gregory (Welch), Richard seems destined to remain at his job at the tech company Hooli, founded by the megalomaniacal Gavin Belson (Ross). When Monica (Crew), Gregory’s head of operations, and Jared (Woods), a Hooli executive, realize the value of the site’s compression algorithm, a bidding war erupts between Belson and Gregory, with Richard caught in the middle.

The February 7, 2014 episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon earned the show’s highest ratings since David Letterman said goodbye to the late-night series back in 1993. February 7th marked Jimmy Fallon’s final episode of the series before taking over The Tonight Show job from Jay Leno, and fans tuned in in huge numbers to send him off.
Late Night with Jimmy Fallon‘s last episode featured special guests Andy Samberg and The Muppets.
Here’s the scoop on Fallon’s final Late Night show, courtesy of NBC:
Jimmy Fallon’s final telecast hosting Late Night with Jimmy Fallon has set series records for biggest overall audience on any night of the week and highest adult 18-49 rating for a regularly scheduled episode. In fact, it was the biggest total-viewer result for the Late Night franchise since 1993 and highest 18-49 rating for a regularly scheduled telecast since 2004.
With a 12:05-1:05 a.m. ET telecast that followed NBC’s coverage of the Sochi Olympics Opening Ceremony, Fallon averaged a 2.2 rating in adults 18-49 and 6.601 million viewers overall, according to fast-official “live plus same day” ratings from Nielsen Media Research.
It’s the biggest overall audience ever for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, eclipsing the prior record set with a special 11:56 p.m. ET telecast on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012 (6.087 million viewers).
It’s the biggest viewership for the Late Night franchise since June 25, 1993 (the final David Letterman-hosted episode, 7.521 million).
In adults 18-49, it’s the second-highest Late Night with Jimmy Fallon rating ever, behind only the post-Super Bowl telecast on Feb. 5, 2012 (2.5) and the highest-ever for a regularly scheduled Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Additionally, it’s the top regularly scheduled episode in the Late Night franchise in 18-49 since May 6, 2004 (the night of the Friends finale, 2.7).
Fallon’s 2.2 more than tripled the show’s 0.6 season average in adults 18-49 heading into this week (through Feb. 2), and last night’s telecast was up 246% versus the Late Night season average of 1.909 million in total viewers (L+SD).
In national averages heading into this week, Fallon was at a four-year high at this point in the season in viewers 18-49, while in total viewers, Fallon was delivering his top average at 19 weeks into the season in the five years he’s been hosting Late Night. Versus the first 19 weeks of the year-ago season, Fallon was up 20% in 18-49 viewers (815,000 vs. 682,000 in “most current” season averages) and up 17% in total viewers (2.012 million vs. 1.719 million, “most current”).

Jimmy Fallon and The Muppets (Photo by: Lloyd Bishop/NBC)
So long, good-bye, and farewell to Jimmy Fallon – or at least to Fallon as the host of Late Night. Seth Meyers has big shoes to fill when he takes over the hosting gig, but Fallon has even larger shoes to step into as he transitions to The Tonight Show hosting job following the retirement of Jay Leno.
Fallon chose to finish up his final show by joining The Muppets for “The Weight” by The Band. And as we’ve come to expect from Fallon, the performance was excellent and a terrific end to his successful run as Late Night host.
Hilary Duff, Debi Mazar, Miriam Shor, and Sutton Foster have begun work on the new sitcom pilot, Younger, set up at TV Land. Filming’s now underway in New York on the comedy based on the book by Pamela Redmond Satran.
Younger is written by Darren Star who’s also executive producing and directing the series.
The Younger Plot:
Younger follows 40-year-old Liza (Foster), a suddenly single mother who tries to get back into the working world, only to find out it’s nearly impossible to start at the bottom at her age. When a chance encounter with a 20-something guy at a bar convinces her she looks younger than she is, Liza tries to pass herself off as 26 – with the help of a makeover, courtesy of her best friend Maggie (Mazar). Armed with new confidence, she lands a job as an assistant to the temperamental Diana (Shor) and teams up with her new co-worker and fellow 20-something Kelsey (Duff) to make it in the career of her dreams.
Orange is the New Black star Taylor Schilling stars opposite Aidan Quinn in Stay, a new dramatic film opening in theaters in March 21, 2014 (preceded by a February 11th VOD release). Stay, written and directed by Wiebke von Carolsfeld, has just released this new trailer along with a theatrical poster to check out.
In addition to Schilling and Quinn, the Stay cast includes Barry Keoghan, Nika McGuigan, Chris McHallem, Brian Gleeson, Pascale Montpetit, and Michael Ironside.
The Plot:
Schilling and Quinn star as Abbey and Dermot, a couple struggling to find their way in life. After retreating to the rugged expanse of the Irish countryside, their happy existence is upended when Abbey discovers she’s pregnant. Dermot, a long-since disgraced professor, has no interest in being a father. With their lives now at a crossroads, Abbey and Dermot’s relationship hangs in the balance. They must both face the truth of who they are and which path in life to take that will finally lead them home.
