Zombies and witches will be well represented at the 2024 New York Comic Con, with AMC Networks confirming The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and Mayfair Witches panels. This year’s NYCC will take place Thursday, October 17th through Sunday, October 20th at the Javits Center.

AMC’s plans include a screening of the first episode of Mayfair Witches season two as well as the World Dub premiere of HIDIVE’s DanMachi—Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, and a horror-centric panel hosted by Shudder. The network’s also bringing special footage from the upcoming second season of The Walking Dead: Dead City to the NYCC.

AMC Networks’ New York Comic Con Plans:

Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches panel – Thursday, October 17, 12:45pm, Main Stage

Based on Anne Rice’s Lives of the Mayfair Witches, season two continues the journey of Rowan Mayfair (Alexandra Daddario) after she has unwittingly given birth to the demon Lasher (Jack Huston). She is determined to understand what he has become – human or monster? – and to use him to fulfill her purpose as a healer, but when tragedy strikes, she must put aside her own desires and fight to protect her family.

Directly following the screening, Executive Producer Mark Johnson, who oversees the Anne Rice Immortal Universe, Showrunner Esta Spalding and cast members Harry Hamlin, Tongayi Chirisa, and Alyssa Jirrels will tease the new season with a discussion and fan Q&A.

The Walking Dead: Dead City panel – Friday, October 18, 6pm, Main Stage
The Walking Dead: Dead City follows fan-favorite characters Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they travel into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, long ago cut off from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror. In season two, in the growing war for control of Manhattan, Maggie and Negan find themselves trapped on opposite sides. As their paths intertwine, they come to see that the way out for both is more complicated and harrowing than they ever imagined.

The series panel will feature an exclusive look at season two, returning next year, with panelists including Chief Content Officer of the Walking Dead Universe Scott M. Gimple, Showrunner and Executive Producer Eli Jorné, Executive Producer and star Lauren Cohan, and cast members Gaius Charles and Dascha Polanco.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol panel – Friday, October 18, 7pm, Main Stage

They both confront old demons while she fights to find her friend and he struggles with his decision to stay in France, causing tension at the Nest. Jane Seymour (Harry Wild) is on board to host the investigative series Relative Secrets. Described as a hybrid true-crime and genealogy series, the project marks Acorn TV’s first-ever unscripted original series.

“I’m thrilled to come aboard Relative Secrets as host, deepening my rich relationship with Acorn TV,” stated Seymour. “Now, in addition to solving cleverly crafted mysteries on Harry Wild, I get the chance to uncover real family unknowns. As we all know, reality is often much stranger than fiction – I can’t wait to dive in.”

John Ealer and producer Felicity Justrabo serve as writers and directors. Season one is executive produced by Ealor, Jane Seymour, David W. Brady, and Kate Harrison Karman.

“Each episode in this suspenseful new series from Cream Productions, makers of chilling unscripted programs Fear Thy Neighbor, Murder U, and BTK: A Killer Among Us, will investigate an everyday American family’s darkest mystery, aiming both to solve the mystery and explore how it shapes that family today. Colorful characters, rich cultural context, and dramatic twists and turns abound in every tale, each of which connects the American family to their UK heritage,” reads Acorn TV’s synopsis. “Along the way, we’ll meet charismatic heroes and terrifying villains, ranging from a 99-year-old World War II veteran who worries his absence led to the murder of his grandmother, to the daughter of a serial killer desperate to carve out her own identity from her father’s sordid past to a mother who abandoned her three children to start a new secret life.

Host Seymour oversees the overall investigation in each episode, which is led by archaeologist Natasha Billson (The Great British Dig).”

Acorn TV’s announcement of the new series didn’t include a target premiere date.

“We are delighted to begin Acorn TV’s journey into unscripted Originals with Relative Secrets and the incredible Jane Seymour. This series blends true crime and investigation with the thrilling mystery storytelling Acorn TV audiences know and love, creating something truly special,” said Don Klees, Senior Vice President, Programming, Acorn TV.

ABC released this synopsis of the new series:

“From the brilliant mind of Ryan Murphy comes high-octane procedural Doctor Odyssey. Max (Jackson) is the new on-board doctor for a luxury cruise ship where the staff works hard and plays harder. It’s all-hands-on-deck as Max and his small but mighty medical team navigate unique medical crises and each other, miles from shore.”

Writer/executive producer Jon Robin Baitz spoke with EW about what’s in store when viewers tune in. “People spend quite a bit of hard-earned money to go on these cruises, and there’s an element of fantasy fulfillment, but with fantasy fulfillment comes risk and danger,” said Baitz. “On a boat, anything could happen, no matter how safety conscious you are. There’s any number of opportunities for mishaps, and with that comes this wonderful parade of guest stars every episode, like lambs to the slaughter, meekly, joyously walking up the gangplank, not remotely aware of what will befall them.”

The Summit Announces Its Season 1 Competitors

The Summit Season 1 Poster
Poster for CBS’s ‘The Summit’

CBS’s new unscripted competition series The Summit announced the 16 brave individuals who’ll taking on intense physical challenges. Competitors include a neuroscientist, a trauma nurse, a barber, and a stay-at-home mom.

Manu Bennett (Spartacus, Arrow) hosts the new reality series set to premiere on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at 9pm ET/PT. Season one moves to its regular Wednesdays at 9:30pm ET/PT time slot on October 9th.

CBS offers this description of the new primetime series:

“These 16 strangers – from a Trader Joe’s employee and mother of two, to a 29-year-old trauma nurse, to a 33-year-old Air Force service member – are truly stepping into the unknown, as they did not know what they were signing up for and many of them have no previous climbing or camping experience. The result is a test of their character, both physical and mental, in ways they never imagined possible, as they attempt to reach the peak of a distant, towering mountain.

With their backpacks containing an equal share of $1 million, the group must traverse an exhausting distance in just 14 days in order to win the cash they are carrying. But not everyone will make it, as these strangers must work together to tackle the dangerous terrain, unforgiving Antarctic winds, heart-pounding challenges and gut-wrenching eliminations on their way to the peak. Tracking them along this journey is the ‘Mountain’s Keeper’ who will surprise the trekkers with brutal twists and force decisions that complicate an already grueling ascent. Morals and relationships will be tested when they must decide what to do if someone falls behind, because if the group fails to reach THE SUMMIT in time, all the prize money will be lost.

The contestants competing on the first season of The Summit vary in age, background, personality, and experience, contributing to the differing perspectives and strategies they each bring to their individual game, and adding to the intensity of the all-or-nothing gameplay where the group succeeds or fails as one.”
