Because there can never be too many awards shows, NBC has added a new one to its 2014 lineup with The PEOPLE MAGAZINE Awards airing late next year. The new two-hour awards show will honor “cultural forces” and will be produced in association with dick clark productions and PEOPLE.
The PEOPLE MAGAZINE Awards will recognize influential celebrities, pop culture figures, and Hollywood personalities. Among the awards to be handed out are the Biggest Phenomenon of 2014, Funniest Person, Sexiest Woman, and Most Popular Person.
“There is no better barometer of the cultural events and top personalities of the world than PEOPLE magazine,” said Paul Telegdy, President, Alternative and Late Night Programming, NBC Entertainment. “This awards show will bring to light all who have broken through the clutter to make their voices heard throughout the year.”
“We are thrilled to be partnering with dick clark productions and NBC on The PEOPLE MAGAZINE Awards, which will provide a snapshot of the most compelling and talked about people and pop culture topics that grabbed our attention and drove the conversation throughout the year,” said Larry Hackett, Editor, PEOPLE magazine.

This just-released video from the Veronica Mars movie asks fans to choose sides: are you Team Piz or Team Logan? Both have their pros and cons, but who does Veronica really, truly belong with?
The new footage finds the cast debating the issue and shows off new scenes from the much-anticipated Kickstarter-backed film adaptation of the cult favorite TV series.
Creator Rob Thomas says they’ve already had test screenings which have gone really well, and he wanted to share some footage with Veronica Mars fans and Kickstarter backers. Here’s what Thomas had to say in his message to Kickstarter supporters:
“We’ve edited the new footage together into a short featurette suitable for sharing with friends, loved ones, or enemies who happen to share your taste in pop culture, and included enough context that it’ll make sense even if your friends never saw the show.
And while we were careful to avoid significant spoilers, this footage does reveal a few new details about what to expect in the film… and gives our cast a chance to weigh on the eternal Logan vs. Piz debate. Take a look.”

Diva fans and wannabe Divas will have another season of Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva to check out as the network’s renewed the show for a sixth season.
Lifetime will air the 13-episode season six next year.
Drop Dead Diva will finish up season five on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at 9pm with “a surprise visitor” from Jane’s past. The series stars Brooke Elliott, Margaret Cho, Jackson Hurst, April Bowlby, Justin Deeley, Lex Medlin, and Kate Levering and was created and executive produced by Josh Berman. Outraged by her sudden demise, she attempts to persuade Fred to return her to her shallow existence but is accidentally relegated to the body of the recently deceased Jane Bingum. An intelligent, thoughtful and plus-size attorney with a loyal assistant, Teri, Jane has always lived in the shadow of her colleagues whereas Deb has always relied on her external beauty.
By a twist of fate and a bolt of divine intervention, Deb must come to terms with inhabiting Jane’s curvier frame and learn to reconcile her beauty queen ways with her brilliant, new mind.

Rogers, a Country Music Hall of Fame member, will be honored with a tribute by Jennifer Nettles, Rascal Flatts, and Darius Rucker.

Oscar winner Jonathan Demme is such a big supporter of Morocco’s entry in the 2014 Academy Awards Best Foreign Film field that he’s presenting Horses of God for US distribution. Director Nabil Ayouch’s film has had a successful film festival run, winning the Golden Spike in Spain, Best Director in Seattle, and the Francois Chalais Prize at Cannes.
“Horses of God is simply one of the very most powerful pictures that I have ever seen. Extraordinarily gripping and moving, the cinematic style is really breathtaking. I can’t remember being so blown away by the marriage of visuals and story-telling since the first time I saw Marty Scorsese’s Mean Streets and Bertolucci’s The Conformist way back then. Along with the Jacob Burns Film Center, I am tremendously proud to be a part of bringing this vitally important film to America, beginning with its special screening at the Austin Film Festival this month. It came as no surprise to me when Morocco selected Horses of God as its entry for the Oscars last month, it is such an amazing movie,” said Demme.
Ayouch said, “Jonathan Demme is one of the masters of contemporary American cinema, and The Silence of the Lambs remains for me an inexhaustible source of inspiration. I am proud that Jonathan decided to present Horses of God in the United States. Today more than ever, the American audience needs to listen to another voice on a phenomenon as sensitive as terrorism. Violence has a source, and these children of the shanty towns of Casablanca are there to remind us of it.”
Details on Horses of God [Courtesy of the Seattle Film Festival]:
In Horses of God, Nabil Ayouch tells the story of two young soccer-loving friends, Yachine and Nabil, growing up under the fierce protection of Yachine’s older brother, Hamid. But in the sprawling slums of Sidi Moumen, not even Hamid can defend them against the harshness and injustice of the life that surrounds them. Fed up with that life, Hamid throws a rock at a police car and earns himself two years in prison.
When he returns, an eerie calm masks his newfound zealotry, and his fundamentalist friends seem to exercise a powerful influence. Inspired by the real-life 2003 terrorist attacks in Casablanca, Ayouch’s film is a thoughtful and affecting inquiry into how ordinary people come to do desperate, unfathomable things.
The Jonas Brothers recently canceled their tour and now the rift that forced the abandonment of their planned concert dates has led to the band breaking up. The brothers Jonas talked to People about their decision to go their own ways – at least for now – and confirmed that they need some time apart to focus on their own projects.
Kevin Jonas told People it’s over for now and brother Nick was quoted as saying, “It’s really hard to say ‘forever.’ We’re closing a chapter, for sure.” Nick was actually the brother who initially expressed his dissatisfaction with the future of the band. In an interview with People, Nick said he was feeling trapped and “needed to share my heart with my brothers.”
Meanwhile, Joe wanted everyone to know that the decision was unanimous.
Directed by Scorsese and adapted from Jordan Belfort’s book by Terence Winter, The Wolf of Wall Street stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey, Jon Favreau, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner and Jean Dujardin.

TNT’s new unscripted series Private Lives of Nashville Wives will premiere on February 24, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT but the network isn’t waiting until next year to release the list of women who will be taking on lead roles in the show. The new show will be set in the world of Country music and feature “a group of accomplished, opinionated, and driven women as they deal with professional challenges, family issues, and social relationships.”
Here’s the list of women set to star in Private Lives of Nashville Wives:
Jenny Terrell (@Jenny_Terrell) is an independent-minded woman and Vice President at a leading Internet company. She is married to JT Terrell (@JTTerrell1), one of Nashville’s top event and party producers. Jenny seems to have it all, including a family and a highly lucrative career. But with her tough-as-nails, straight-shooting, liberal personality, and beliefs, this Midwest girl from Pickerington, Ohio, is establishing herself as a force to be reckoned with in Nashville society.
Erika Page White (@ErikaPageWhite) is a former soap opera star looking to make a comeback after a nine-year hiatus. Married to platinum country music recording artist Bryan White (@bryan_white), Erika thinks it’s time to focus on her own career again, but only time and effort will tell whether a comeback is really in the cards.
Sarah Davidson (@SoSarahDavidson) is married to BMI Award-winning songwriter Dallas Davidson (@DavidsonDallas), who has 16 number one hits. Others would be content to be a stay-at-home wife living the good life, but Sarah wants more than anything to establish her own career. She is striving to reach a level of success that equals her passion.
Cassie Chapman (@CassieChapman) is married to five-time Grammy-nominated and seven-time Dove Award-winning Christian music artist Gary Chapman (@GChappy), and together the couple is exploring starting their own family. Cassie’s sweetness masks a toughness that comes out when others question their 23-year age difference. The Chapmans are attempting to prove that for all of the town’s songs of heartbreak and woe, their love is enduring.
Ana Fernandez (@TheAnaFernandez) and Betty Malo (@BettyMalo) are identical twin sisters. Ana, a single mother of two, would love to find her perfect man, but her highly extroverted personality sometimes works against her. Betty, who is married to Mavericks lead singer and songwriter Raul Malo (@RaulMalo01), hopes to be a calming influence on Ana, with whom she has a sometimes explosive yet loving relationship.
