Channing Tatum and Ellen DeGeneres Launch Team Oscar Contest

2014 Oscar host Ellen DeGeneres and Channing Tatum (currently busy with 22 Jump Street) teamed up to announced the “Team Oscar” contest in which college students will have the chance to appear on stage during next year’s Academy Awards. The “Team Oscar” challenge will give aspiring college filmmakers the opportunity to deliver the Oscar statuettes to celebrity presenters on Sunday, March 2, 2014’s live broadcast.

“We were very happy to have created this college program for last year’s show. It was a huge success, and we’re excited to take it to the next level,” said show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. “With Channing Tatum set to help us discover a new group of talented young filmmakers and The Ellen DeGeneres Show on board to chronicle their stories, we feel Team Oscar will be more rewarding and exciting than ever.”

“It’s inspiring to see talented young people passionate about movies, and I’m excited to help shine a spotlight on them through Team Oscar,” said Tatum who, along with the producers and the Academy, will be selecting at least six winners. “I’m looking forward to viewing and judging the creative videos submitted on Facebook and working with Craig, Neil and the Academy to choose winners who epitomize the next generation of filmmakers.”

The contest is open to U.S. college students now through January 5, 2014. In order to be considered, a student must explain “how they will contribute to the future of movies and answer a brief essay question on a similar topic.” For more information and to submit your entry, visit the official Facebook page.

The winners will be announced by Channing Tatum in early 2014 on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Patrick Warburton Will Host the 2014 Annies

Patrick Warburton will help celebrate all things animated as the host of the 41st Annie Awards. Put on by the International Animated Film Society (ASIFA-Hollywood), the Annies will be held on February 1, 2014 at UCLA’s Royce Hall.

“We are really excited to have Patrick hosting this year’s ceremony,” said ASIFA-Hollywood President, Frank Gladstone, announcing Warburton as host. “With his love of animation and deadpan comedic style, we know he will keep the show lively, funny, and very entertaining.”

The Annie Awards were created to honor excellence and recognize achievements in 30 categories, including best feature, best character animation, and voice acting. Tickets for the 2014 awards show are on sale now at ticketmaster.com.

Patrick Warburton Bio, Courtesy of ASIFA-Hollywood:

Warburton quickly became a popular semi-regular in the hit TV series Seinfeld, involved in a running joke about his frequent breakups and reconciliations with Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). He stayed with the show until it finished in 1998, and provided the voice for Superman in a series of commercials with Jerry Seinfeld.

He has contributed his memorable voice to characters on the animated shows Family Guy, Hercules, and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command and as sorceress Yazma’s (Eartha Kitt) not-too-bright thug assistant in Disney’s feature, The Emperor’s New Groove (2000). In 2001, Warburton signed on as the star voice of the Fox sitcom The Tick, about a muscle-bound but dimwitted superhero in a blue costume.

High-profile projects in 2002 included a role in the delayed ensemble farce Big Trouble and as Agent T alongside Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith in Men in Black 2. By now, Warburton had become an in-demand voice actor working on a variety of projects including TV series like The Venture Brothers and Family Guy, as well as movies such as Home on the Range, Chicken Little, The Wild, and Bee Movie.

In 2007 he started on a successful seven-season run with the prime-time sitcom Rules of Engagement, and in 2012 he appeared in Seth McFarland’s directorial debut, Ted. In 2014, Warburton will lend his voice talent in the new Peabody and Sherman film and also Planes 2.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be released in 3D 48 frames-per-second, High Frame Rate 3D, 3D, IMAX, and traditional 2D. Directed by Peter Jackson and based on J.R.R. The Plot:

The film continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield, on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. After escaping capture by the dangerous Woodland Elves, the Dwarves journey to Lake-town, and finally to the Lonely Mountain itself, where they must face the greatest danger of all—a creature more terrifying than any before, which will test not only the depth of their courage but the limits of their friendship and the wisdom of the journey itself—the Dragon Smaug.

‘SNL’ Video: Lady Gaga on “Waking Up with Kimye”

Lady Gaga pulled double duty as both the host and musical guest on the November 16, 2013 episode of Saturday Night Live and one of the highlights of the night was Gaga playing an Apple Genius who visits Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s morning talk show, Waking Up with Kimye.

Kanye (played by Jay Pharoah) takes issue with the use of the descriptive term ‘Genius’ and badmouths Gaga’s Apple Genius’ fashion sense.

Also during the SNL episode, Lady Gaga poked fun at herself during the opening monologue and in skits, including one in which an elderly Lady Gaga desperately tries to get her landlord to recognize her.

KMFDM played a nice, intimate show at The Glass House in Pomona, CA on November 13, 2013 and when I say intimate, I mean intimate. The venue wasn’t even halfway full, which doesn’t make sense considering how popular Kaptain K’s band is and also how long they’ve been around. Needless to say, no one was complaining.

Kaptain K and his band mates Lucia, Andy, Jules, and Steve had an awesome time playing songs like “Kunst” from their album with the same title and other great hits including “Light,” “Tohuvabohu,” “Son of a Gun,” “A Drug Against War” and many others. They played a total of 19 tracks and ended with “Anarchy” (from their Symbols album) featuring Bradley B Chant from the opening act Chant.

All in all, the show was great. Lucia with her banshee-like screams and Sasha’s German vocals during certain tracks made the night complete. They have a couple of shows left during this tour and will be getting ready for a 30-year anniversary – and I’m sure another tour celebrating the anniversary. So until next year…

Netflix is Resurrecting ‘The Killing’

The Killing Renewed for Season 4

It’s apparently impossible to kill The Killing. For those fans of the series who thought it was all over…it’s not. Netflix has just announced they’ve made a deal with Fox Television Studios for a fourth and final season of the drama series, which will air exclusively on Netflix.

Season four of The Killing will consist of six episodes that will all be available on the day of the series’ final season premiere.

“The rich, serialized storytelling in The Killing thrives on Netflix, and we believe that it is only fitting to give Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder a proper send-off,” said Cindy Holland, vice president of original content for Netflix. “We are looking forward to offering fans – both existing and new – a series that we know is perfectly suited for on-demand viewing.”

“It’s a true testament to The Killing creator Veena Sud, and the stellar cast led so compellingly by Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman, that fans remained so passionate about the show. We’re gratified that our partners at Netflix recognized this, and are giving us the opportunity to complete the story in a way that will be satisfying to our loyal audience,” added Fox Television Studios President David Madden.

The Killing Plot:

Based on the Danish series Forbrydelsen, The Killing follows various murder investigations led by homicide detectives “Sarah Linden” (Mireille Enos) and “Stephen Holder” (Joel Kinnaman). Seasons one and two chronicled the “Rosie Larsen case,” with Linden and Holder investigating the murder of a teenage girl. Picking up one year after the close of that investigation, season three followed the detectives on their search for a runaway girl, leading them to discover a gruesome string of murders that connected to a previous investigation by Linden.
