The Weinstein Company’s dipping its toes in the young adult books-to-screen pond with the first film of the Vampire Academy series, and they’ve just unveiled three brand new photos from the 2014 release. Based on the bestselling books by Richelle Mead, Vampire Academy is, yes, another tale of vampires and teen love. However, unlike that other young adult series, these vampires have fangs and they don’t sparkle like diamonds in the sunlight. And Mead’s characters are fully developed and interesting.

The first film of what could be a franchise if all goes well at the box office is directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls). The cast is led by Zoey Deutch, Lucy Fry, and Danila Kozlovsky and includes Sarah Hyland, Gabriel Byrne, Joely Richardson, Cameron Monaghan, Sami Gayle, and Ashley Charles.

The Plot:

Rose Hathaway (Deutch) is a Dhampir: half human/vampire, guardians of the Moroi, peaceful, mortal vampires living discretely within our world. Her legacy is to protect the Moroi from bloodthirsty, immortal Vampires, the Strigoi. This is her story.
