Martin Sheen and Matthew Modine Have ‘Wrinkles’

Wrinkles Animated

That’s a horrible headline, isn’t it? But not to worry…we’re not commenting on the age of either Martin Sheen or Matthew Modine. The ‘wrinkles’ we’re referring to is the Spanish animated movie Wrinkles. Sheen, Modine, and George Coe are handling the English translation of the movie, directed by Ignacio Ferreras, based on a graphic novel by Paco Roca.

GKIDs will be releasing the film theatrically in early 2014.

The Plot:

The story opens with former bank manager Emilio being dispatched to a retirement home by his family. His new roommate is a wily, wheeler-dealer named Miguel, who cheerfully swindles small amounts of cash from the more befuddled residents but is also full of handy insider tips that are crucial to survival. Like One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in an old folks home, we are introduced to daily pill regimens, electric gates, and an eccentric cast of characters who rebel against institutional authority, while doing everything in their power to avoid being assigned to the dreaded top floor assisted living wing – a dwelling place for lost souls from which there is no return.

The hand-drawn animation style allows the film to move freely between the reality-bound daily lives of the ‘inmates’ and their more colorful dementia-induced fantasies, leaving plenty of room for both tears and laughter and pulling no punches in its critique of society’s attitude towards the elderly.

‘Ghost Adventures’ Returns for Season Eight

Ghost Adventures Season 8

The Ghost Adventures team is back exploring things that go bump in the night with the eighth season premiere of the Travel Channel series on August 16, 2013 at 9pm. Zak Bagans, Nick Groff, and Aaron Goodwin reunite to do what most of us would prefer not to do: deliberately spend a night inside a place that’s supposedly haunted.

The paranormal investigators will be heading out to some of the most haunted locations on the planet in this upcoming season’s 13-episode run, which will include the show’s 100th episode. And in honor of hitting that 100-episode mark, Travel Channel will air a 1-hour Ghost Adventures: Up Close & Personal special on September 27th.

“For Nick, Aaron and I, each investigation we do is personal,” said Zak Bagans, lead investigator. “We are on the front lines, often with malevolent spirits, working to uncover the truths behind the paranormal and understand the secrets those who have gone before us hold. Each lockdown is rife with challenges, both physically and mentally, but we accept them; we’ve dedicated our lives to understanding, educating and discovering a world that is perhaps one of the greatest mysteries of all time.”

Details on Season 8:

In the season eight premiere, the group heads deep into the Nevada desert to investigate the 100-year-old Pioneer Saloon. The saloon is full of mysterious paranormal activity, ranging from full body apparitions to disembodied voices and plumes of cigarette smoke manifesting out of thin air. As the team digs deeper in the location’s history, they discover that not only is it situated near the site of a 1942 plane crash in which actress and wife of Clark Gable – Carole Lombard – was killed, it’s also where notorious card cheat Paul Coski was brutally murdered during his final card game. As the trio works to solve the mystery behind this den of doom, they capture startling evidence during their frightening lockdown.

In addition, this season will also feature a special two-hour Halloween episode that takes viewers to Transylvania, where the team will explore the truth behind the legend of Count Dracula, as they investigate the most terrifying haunted castles in this intriguing and historical Romanian province. Other lockdown locations include the 150-year-old Black Swan Inn in San Antonio, TX; the Tuolumne General Hospital in the old mining town of Sonora, CA; the notoriously violent Missouri State Penitentiary in Jefferson City, MO; the Yost Theater and Ritz Hotel in Santa Ana, CA; a haunted century-old Victorian Mansion just outside of Boston, and more.

HBO Renews ‘True Blood’ for Season 7

Viewers may be engaged in a love-hate relationship with this season of True Blood, however HBO’s happy enough with the show that it’s bringing the series back for season seven. Bill’s got the whole possessed by Lilith thing going on, Eric’s created a new vampire out of a vampire-hating politician’s daughter, everyone seems to be getting easily locked up in a vampire “camp” by members of the Louisiana Governor’s police force, and Sookie’s trying to figure out if a fairy/vampire named Warlow is actually in love with her or just one more of the supernatural creatures who’s taking advantage of her – and let’s not even talk about the character shifts going on with Alcide and Sam, all right?

HBO Programming President Michael Lombardo announced the renewal of the series, confirming season seven will air next summer. Lombardo also confirmed executive producer Brian Buckner will be back as showrunner.

True Blood remains a signature show for HBO, and a true phenomenon with our viewers,” stated Lombardo. “Thanks to Brian Buckner and his talented team, the show continues to be a thrill ride like nothing else on TV.”

Season six has been drawing in over 10 million viewers per episode, according to HBO. The cast is led by Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, and Alexander Skarsgard, and features Joe Manganiello, Sam Trammell, Deborah Ann Woll, and Rob Kazinsky.

Jenny McCarthy has been confirmed as the new co-host on The View, with Barbara Walters making the official announcement. McCarthy will begin her run as co-host on Monday, September 7, 2013 at 11am when season 17 kicks off.

“We are delighted that Jenny will be joining us as a permanent co-host on The View starting in September. Jenny brings us intelligence as well as warmth and humor. She can be serious and outrageous. She has connected with our audience and offers a fresh point of view. Jenny will be a great addition to the show as we usher in an exciting new chapter for The View,” said Walters.

“I’m beyond thrilled to be joining Barbara and the other amazing women at the table. I’d like to thank ABC for this great opportunity. I’d also like to give a big thank you to VH1 for their support and for allowing me to fulfill this lifelong dream. I look forward to helping make hot topics a little bit hotter, and showing my mom that my interrupting skills have finally paid off,” said McCarthy.

On July 10th it was announced Elisabeth Hasselback is leaving The View behind to work on Fox & Friends this fall.

‘Veronica Mars’ the TV Series, the Movie, and Now the Books

Veronica Mars on DVD

Because keeping busy on a feature film isn’t enough, Rob Thomas – Veronica Mars creator/director – will be co-writing a book series based on the television series. According to Vintage Books, the first novel will be released in the spring of 2014 to coincide with the movie.

The books will, of course, feature characters from the TV series but will focus on new storylines. And, apparently, you don’t even have to be into Veronica Mars to know what’s going on in the mystery novels, but the first book’s plot will center on events that take place after the film ends.

“I started my career as a novelist. Veronica Mars was first imagined as a novel. I’m thrilled that I’m going to get the opportunity to continue telling Veronica Mars stories in a form I’ve loved and missed,” Thomas said.

“Veronica Mars has always been a one-of-a-kind character, and, as a longtime fan of the series, I’ve always thought there is an immense amount of story left to be told. Our goal for the book series is to appeal to fans of the show, but also to appeal to mystery readers and lovers of series featuring strong, intriguing female protagonist,” stated acquiring editor Andrea Robinson. “Veronica Mars is a contemporary update to the tradition of noir crime fiction that was established by Vintage’s Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler, so it’s exciting that we’ll also publish her here.”

Details on Veronica Mars – The TV Series:

The Veronica Mars television series (2004 – 2007) is set in the fictional town of Neptune, California, and stars Kristen Bell as a high school (and later college) student who moonlights as a private investigator under the eye of her detective father. One of the first noir series to feature a young-adult female sleuth, the show garnered critical acclaim, and was named one of the “Best Cult TV Shows from the Past 25 Years” by Entertainment Weekly, and one of the “Best 50 TV Shows of All Time” by Empire magazine.

Hit the Floor will be sticking around for another season, with VH1 giving the scripted drama a second season pickup. According to the network, the show starring Taylour Paige, Kimberly Elise, Charlotte Ross, Logan Browning, and Dean Cain is the top new scripted series on cable this summer among adults. Hit the Floor season one has been averaging 1.9 million viewers.

“We always knew that Hit the Floor was a strong project from the beginning and we are thrilled that so many of our viewers agree with us,” stated Jill Holmes, VH1’s Senior Vice President of West Coast Production and Development. “With creator James LaRosa at the helm, everyone in front of and behind the camera has created a compelling, addictive series with high energy dance numbers, and we can’t wait to continue the storyline that’s made it the #1 cable show in its time period among adults.”

The Plot: Hit The Floor explores the sexy world of professional basketball and the dancers who make the fans (and players) go wild. The Los Angeles Devils are the number one team in the league. When the arena lights go on all of Hollywood comes out to support the million dollar players. But in this city these men share the fame, adrenalin, money, sex, and power with their dancers, the Devil Girls.

At the heart of Hit The Floor is Ahsha (Taylour Paige), a sheltered young woman who joins the team against the wishes of her mother Sloane (Kimberly Elise), who knows this treacherous, tempting world all too well having been a Devil Girl herself. Olivia (Charlotte Ross) is the shrewd squad manager, Jelena (Logan Browning) is the ruthless, star captain who won’t let anyone else share the spotlight and Pete Davenport (Dean Cain) is the former All-Star who’s come back to coach his old team only to have to contend with the girls both stealing the spotlight and distracting his players. All the while, the mystery surrounding the disappearance of missing Devil Girls dancer Mia threatens to blow the roof off the entire L.A. Devils organization.
