New Celebrity Auction to Benefit Hurricane Sandy

Bidding is now open on Superstars for Sandy Relief items that include “once-in-a-lifetime experiences” with WWE superstars John Cena and Triple H, Sting, Michael J. Fox, Charlie Sheen, Tony Hawk, Coldplay/Chris Martin, Carl Edwards, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Mark Cuban, Carrie Underwood, and Adrian Grenier. All of the funds raised will go to help with Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in New Jersey and New York.
 
The auction, which is a joint effort of WWE, NY City Mayor Michael R Bloomberg, and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, is currently underway at Charitybuzz.com/WWE and runs through April 9, 2013 at 6pm ET.
 
In addition to the online auction, Sean Diddy Combs is set to co-host a Superstars for Sandy Relief party on April 4th at Cipriani Wall Street, with sportscaster Joe Buck leading a live auction.
 
“We are extremely grateful for WWE’s support of the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund,” stated Governor Chris Christie. “The funds will help thousands of families and businesses in our local community as we continue to rebuild, restore and recover from the worst storm to hit New Jersey in over a century.”
 
“Superstars for Sandy Relief, and the subsequent funds raised, will make a huge difference in the lives of thousands of New Yorkers still recovering from Hurricane Sandy,” added Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. “On behalf of the city of New York, we thank WWE for its overwhelming generosity.”
 
“The devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy continue to present challenges here at home,” said Vince McMahon, WWE Chairman and CEO. “We are proud to partner with Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Christie on Superstars for Sandy Relief, a global auction that will provide significant financial support for relief efforts in New York and New Jersey.

Cougar Town Will Be Back for Another Season

Cougar Town isn’t going away anytime soon. TBS has just renewed the comedy series for season five, giving the go-ahead for 13 brand new episodes. The series, which stars Courteney Cox, Christa Miller, Busy Philipps, Dan Byrd, Ian Gomez, Josh Hopkins and Brian Van Holt, will wrap up season four on April 9, 2013. Season five will premiere sometime in 2014.
 
Announcing the renewal, Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) stated: “Cougar Town has been everything we hoped it would be: a smart, big-hearted, laugh-out-loud comedy that shines a bright light on the TBS brand. This season, the brilliant cast and immensely creative production team on Cougar Town have crafted their best episodes yet, and we couldn’t be happier inviting them back for more.”
 
Season four has been averaging 2.8 million viewers, according to the network, and is TBS’ top primetime series ever.
 
The Plot:
 
Cougar Town centers on the “cul de sac crew,” a tight-knit group of friends who keep things funny while supporting each other through the challenges and pitfalls of life – with a little dysfunction and a whole lot of wine. Courteney Cox stars as Jules Cobb, a recently remarried mom who is never far from her wine and her friends, including her new husband, Grayson (Josh Hopkins); her under-achieving ex-husband, Bobby (Brian Van Holt); her next-door neighbor and confidante, Ellie (Christa Miller); her feisty protégé, Laurie (Busy Philipps); and Ellie’s loveably average husband, Andy (Ian Gomez). They are frequently joined by Jules’ 21-year-old son, Travis (Dan Byrd), who tends to be far more mature than anyone else in the group.

The MTV Movie Awards are set for April 14, 2013 with Rebel Wilson on board to host, and the network’s got a new poster to show off along with a new promotional video featuring Wilson and Best Shirtless Performance nominee Channing Tatum. The first video featuring the pair found them taking part in a car chase. This time around Tatum has to search Wilson for a gun and a grenade while she drives their get-away car.

Voting is Open for the Country Music Entertainer of the Year Award

48th ACM AwardsVoting is now underway in the Entertainer of the Year and the ACM New Artist of the Year award categories. The Academy of Country Music just announced that Country music fans can now cast their votes for the winners at www.VoteACM.com. The winners will be announced during the 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards to be held on April 7, 2013 in Las Vegas.
 
“Once again, fans have the power to vote for two of the ACM’s most exciting categories, and we’re proud to have great partners both in Ram Trucks and Kohl’s to help make it happen,” stated Bob Romeo, CEO of the Academy of Country Music.
 
This year’s candidates for the Entertainer of the Year are Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton and Taylor Swift. The ACM New Artist of the Year nominees are Brantley Gilbert, Jana Kramer and Florida Georgia Line. New Artist of the Year voting ends at 8:00pm ET/5:00pm PT on Sunday, April 7, 2013. Entertainer of the Year voting closes during the third hour of the broadcast.

Oscar Dates Set for 2014 and 2015

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed the list of important dates for the 2014 and 2015 Academy Awards. And while everyone thought that maybe the dates would be creeping up earlier in the year, it appears the Academy is sticking with the late February time slot.
 
The dates as just released are:

Bon Jovi Song Chosen as North America’s Theme Song

Bon Jovi’s “Army of One” has been chosen to be the theme song for the Discovery Channel’s new series, North America. Announcing the new Bon Jovi song as the show’s theme song, Eileen O’Neill, Group President of Discovery Channel and TLC stated: “Bon Jovi’s ‘Army of One’ captures the daring, wild spirit of Discovery’s upcoming landmark television event that presents our homeland as an extreme world all within one continent.”

Part one of the seven-part North America series will air on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at 9pm.

The Details:

In this unforgettable television event, Discovery Channel turns the lens toward its homeland and captures a land where life collides with hostile, untamed wilderness in the most diverse, deadly environment on Earth. Traveling the continent for more than three years from the sub-zero Canadian tundra to the tropical rainforests of Panama, Discovery’s first, independently-produced natural history landmark series, North America, reveals that “survival of the fittest” is truly the law here amid threatening terrain and ferocious weather.

‘Storage Wars’ and American Hoggers’ to Return in April

A&E has announced details on the upcoming seasons of American Hoggers and Storage Wars. Both shows will be returning on April 16, 2013, with Storage Wars debuting two brand new episodes back-to-back starting at 9pm. Immediately following Storage Wars‘ return, the network will air two episodes of the new season of American Hoggers.

Storage Wars, ranked as the network’s #1 show among adults, will air 26 episodes of the new season.

Storage Wars Season 4 Details:

In the season four premiere episode of Storage Wars, it’s an auction standoff in Stanton, California. Darrell reemerges after scoring the biggest hit in Storage Wars history. Barry gets his motors running. And Nabila gets run up on a locker…that’s fit for a dummy. Celebrity ventriloquist and comedian Jeff Dunham guest stars as an appraiser.

At 9:30 PM ET/PT, the buyers are back in Surf City, USA. Barry brings the king of kitsch, Charles Phoenix, to “view” an auction first hand. Darrell finds there’s no such thing as home field advantage. And Jarrod buys solo only to have Brandi drag him down to the station!

American Hoggers Season 3 Details:

The series follows legendary hog hunter Jerry Campbell and his family as they rescue Texas residents and ranches from the devastating chaos caused by millions of invasive wild boars.

Last season on American Hoggers, a divided Campbell family banded together to take down Jerry’s nemesis, fellow hog hunter Ronnie Creek, a victory that reestablished Jerry Campbell as THE Boss Hog of Texas. However, it was bittersweet for Jerry’s daughter Krystal. Now, after a blow-out fight with her dad on the first hunt of the season, Krystal decides it’s time to step out from Jerry’s Texas size shadow and form her own hogging company, Wild Women Hogging, with best friend, Leah Penick. With the Campbells divided and the family weakened, Ronnie Creek returns to retake his title as Hog Boss leaving Jerry to fight for his title and his family.




Are You Ready for The Wolverine?

Director James Mangold is a huge tease. The Wolverine‘s helmer just posted a six second action-packed teaser trailer – or tweaser as he calls it (because it debuted on Twitter) – featuring Hugh Jackman in action. If you look closely you’ll also be able to catch a glimpse of Famke Janssen as Jean Grey in this first-look clip.
 
And in case this just isn’t enough for you Wolverine fans, the director also tweeted this news:

The Plot:

The Amazing Race Apologizes for Hanoi Episode

CBS officials finally admitted they made a very bad decision when they sent The Amazing Race competitors to Hanoi, Vietnam for the March 17, 2013 episode. The show featured the racers picking up a clue from a box set up in front of a B-52 memorial featuring the wreckage of a downed American plane. None of The Amazing Race contestants acknowledged the location and the powers-that-be apparently initially didn’t see anything wrong with using the B-52 memorial as a backdrop.
 
Their choice of location offended Vietnam veterans and their families, and caused an uproar online as well as on network news broadcasts. And although CBS withheld comment all week, they did begin the March 24, 2013 episode with an apology:
 
“Parts of last Sunday’s episode filmed in Vietnam were insensitive to a group that is very important to us — our nation’s veterans,” read show host Phil Keoghan in a statement shown at the beginning of the March 24th broadcast. “We want to apologize to veterans, particularly those who served in Vietnam, as well as to their families and any viewers who were offended by the broadcast.”
 
In addition to the B-52 memorial clue box, the group had to learn a Communist victory song.

‘Zombieland’ Cast and Series Details Unveiled

Amazon Studios is hoping zombies will remain popular for a while as they’ve just released the info on the comedy series pilot for Zombieland, based on the hit feature film. Amazon has finished up a pilot and will be adding Zombieland to the list of six other comedy pilots and six children’s series pilots which Amazon Instant Video and LOVEFiLM UK viewers will be able to vote on.

Based on feedback from viewers, Amazon will determine which of the 13 pilots will actually get the go-ahead and be made into full-season productions.

The projects vying for full-season orders include Alpha House, Browsers, Dark Minions, Onion News Empire, Supanatural, Those Who Can’t, Creative Galaxy, Oz Adventures, Teeny Tiny Dogs, Tumbleaf, Sara Solves It, and The Untitled J.J. Johnson Project.

“Zombieland is a fan favorite and we can’t wait to see where this story line goes in a serialized format,” stated Roy Price, Director of Amazon Studios. “We’ve been announcing a lot of exciting exclusive content for Prime Instant Video, like Downton Abbey, Under the Dome, and Justified, and we think adding original shows to that lineup is going to make Prime even more enticing for customers.”

Zombieland‘s pilot was directed by Eli Craig (Tucker and Dale vs. Evil). The cast includes Kirk Ward as Tallahassee, Maiara Walsh as Wichita, Tyler Ross as Columbus, and Izabela Vidovic as Little Rock.

“Zombieland will strive to break the rules—action, adventure, thrills, chills and laughs and all packed into a half hour format,” added creator Paul Wernick. “This is not your average show but Amazon is not your average network.”
