Olympus Has Fallen Poster with Gerard Butler

Do you want to attend the Hollywood premiere of Olympus Has Fallen on March 18, 2013? FilmDistrict is offering fans a chance to “protect” the red carpet as an Olympus Has Fallen special agent who will work with a team of skilled professionals to “deter any incursions at the event.” In addition to walking the red carpet, those selected will also get to see the special screening.

Here are the details:

All eligible candidates will be pre-screened at the premiere. Select candidates will walk the red carpet as an advance team in preparation for the arrival of the all-star ensemble: Gerard Butler (Agent Mike Banning), Aaron Eckhart (President Benjamin Asher), Morgan Freeman (Speaker Turnbull), and Angela Basset (Secret Service Director Lynn Jacobs).

All candidates will then be invited to attend an exclusive screening of the film.

Candidate Requirements:
– Must be 18 or over (valid ID required)
– Participants must be available between 5:30pm-10pm on Monday, March 18th, at a location in Hollywood, CA.
– All candidates must dress in full suits or pantsuits, to look like Secret Service Agents, in order to walk the red carpet.

If you’re interested and can meet the requirements, apply at olympusmovie.com/screening.

The Plot:

When the White House (Secret Service Code: “Olympus”) is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President is kidnapped, disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped within the building. As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning’s inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President and avert an even bigger crisis.

‘Vice’ Season 1 April 2013 Episode Guide and Trailer

A scene from Vice

HBO’s set to debut the new series Vice in April 2013 with Shane Smith as host. Executive produced by Smith, Bill Maher, and Eddy Moretti, Vice focuses on international stories overlooked by the mainstream media, including the Taliban’s recruitment of children as suicide bombers, an underground railroad for North Korean refugees, and eating camps in Mauritania.

The weekly half-hour series kicks off on April 5th at 11pm.

Vice’s savvy, fearless irreverence has made it a premier new media brand,” says Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. “Their groundbreaking style of news coverage guarantees a show that’s like nothing else on TV.”

Shane Smith adds, “We’ve always been a little more raw in the content we make. When you’re presenting a variety of totally insane stories from around the world, when you’re showing some of the scariest, weirdest and most absurd customs and practices known to humanity, then that’s the only style that really works. You can’t present these stories in a teacup. You have to tell the story in a way that grabs the viewer and delivers a punch in the face.”

Vice April 2013 Episodes

Show #1
Debut: FRIDAY, APRIL 5 (11:00-11:30 p.m. ET/PT)
Other HBO playdates: April 5 (12:30 a.m.), 9 (midnight) and 11 (midnight)
HBO2 playdates: April 6 (8:00 p.m.) and 10 (1:05 a.m.)

“Assassination Nation”: In the Philippines, election season is more like hunting season. Rivals simply rub out their opponents instead of defeating them at the polls. In the 2010 election year alone, more than 100 people were killed due to political violence. Vice follows the cycle of violence in this gun-crazy island nation all the way from an underground factory where illicit weapons are made to the villages full of young men who can’t wait to get their hands on them.

“Killer Kids of the Taliban”: In Afghanistan, senior members of the Taliban are now manipulating children and teenagers into carrying out their suicide bombings. They brainwash illiterate kids not well-versed in their own religion, and even fool them into believing they will survive the blast. Vice meets with young kids who were captured before they blew themselves and others up, as well as some of the victims of these tragic bombings.

Show #2
Debut: FRIDAY, APRIL 12 (11:00-11:30 p.m.)

HBO2 playdates: April 13 (8:00 p.m.) and 17 (3:55 a.m.)

“Escape from North Korea”: Thousands of North Koreans cross the border into China illegally every year. Living in perpetual fear of being discovered, with all odds against them, defectors still do everything they can to leave. If arrested in communist Laos, they may be sent back to North Korea to face prison camp or worse. The risks of escaping the North and heading to the South are so great that fewer than 25,000 North Koreans have ever made the journey successfully. Vice joins a South Korean pastor who has developed a modern-day underground railroad to move defectors from China to freedom and eventual citizenship in South Korea.

“World’s Most Dangerous Border”: The most dangerous place in the world is Kashmir’s line of control, which partially occupies the Indian state and separates India from Pakistan. Observers in both India and Pakistan believe the decades-old conflict between the two nations could potentially lead to the end of the world as we know it. Vice travels across Pakistan to the contested line of control in Kashmir, pointing out how close a nuclear apocalypse is yet again.

Jim Morrison Documentary in the Works

Jim Morrison Documentary Details

The Jim Morrison documentary, Before the End: Jim Morrison Comes of Age, has begun production according to Z-Machine (the production company run by Jeff and Jess Finn). According to the official announcement of the Morrison film, this indie documentary “follows the trajectory of Jim Morrison’s development, prior to his rock superstardom.”

The documentary hopes to provide audiences with a clear look at who James Douglas Morrison was “as opposed to Jim Morrison, rock god.”

Before the End will include interviews with friends and family members along with previously unreleased home movies and photos from his earlier years.

The Plot: Known [in]famously as the lead singer of The Doors, Morrison accomplished much in his brief life beyond music, including three self-published books of poetry and an experimental film. He received numerous accolades on his way to achieving fabled status, but over the last four decades, persistent rumors and myths have distorted the truth. When Morrison passed on in July 1971, he left a controversial legacy riddled with unanswered questions and misinterpretations. Before the End: Jim Morrison Comes of Age will shed new light on the artist’s early life and his mysterious death at age 27.

Before the End: Jim Morrison Comes of Age documents Morrison via those who experienced him as a person, not just a persona, including Jim’s brother Andy Morrison, Florida State University roommate Bryan Gates, Morrison’s UCLA film instructor Bill Adams, and Doors roadie Gareth Blyth, among many others. In addition, hours of off-the-record conversations with Jim’s sister, Anne Morrison-Chewning, his first serious girlfriends, Tandy Martin and Mary Werbelow, and good friend Alain Ronay helped put puzzle pieces in place.

Veronica Mars Fans Raise More Than $2 Million

That Veronica Mars movie you thought would never come has edged closer to becoming a reality. Veronica Mars star Kristen Bell and series creator Rob Thomas launched a campaign on Kickstarter to raise $2 million in order to make a movie based on the show. And in less than one day, the entire amount was raised and the movie is almost a sure thing at this point. Thomas promises to bring back all of your favorite characters, and they’re targeting a summer shoot.

Says Thomas, “My goal is to include as many of your favorite characters as possible. It is, after all, time for Veronica’s 10-year high school reunion. Keep in mind that the more money we raise, the cooler movie we can make. A two million dollar fundraising total probably means cross words are exchanged at the class reunion. Three million? We can afford a full-on brawl. Ten million? Who knows… For some reason the Neptune High class reunion takes place on a nuclear submarine! A Hobbit shows up! There’s a Bollywood end-credit dance number! I’ve always wanted to direct Bill Murray. We’ll figure out something cool.”

As of the second I’m typing this, The Veronica Mars Movie Campaign on Kickstarter has $2,647,246 in pledges. Make that $2,652,500. And now it’s $2,653,065. Oh, never mind.

And Kristen posted this message for Veronica Mars fans:

dearest marshmallows…

I am currently the happiest blonde in a hamster ball the world has ever seen. We have been waiting so long to make this movie dream a movie reality, and it’s because of YOUR commitment, YOUR persistence, that we finally have a chance. We just have one more step to go.

You have banded together like the sassy little honey badgers you are and made this possibility happen. i promise if we hit our goal, we will make the sleuthiest, snarkiest, it’s-all-fun-and-games-‘til-one-of-you-gets-my-foot-up-your-ass movie we possibly can.

I promise to give it my all. i promise to work my hardest to give everyone a little bit more Veronica, and i will be oh so honored to do so.

I only ask for one thing in return.

If I ever die, do me a favor. Go on Oprah and tell the world that I loved kittens.

LoVe to you ALL,

Music Spotlight: Taylor Swift’s “22” Music Video

Taylor Swift’s not only kicking off her new tour, she’s also debuting her new video of a song from her Red album. The video for “22” features Swift kicking it with her girlfriends, doing all the things girls do when they get together… You know, eat cakes, shake our pompoms, and jump around on a trampoline.

It’s a refreshing break from all the break-up songs, but not one of her better music video efforts. Fortunately, the song’s catchy, so it doesn’t matter how silly the video is.

Swift released the new video on March 13th because, as all Swift fans know, 13 is her lucky number.

What’s Up with Russell Crowe’s UFO Sighting?

Russell Crowe's UFO Photos

Have you been keeping up with Russell Crowe’s photos of a UFO? The Oscar winner set up a still camera to catch bats flying up from the Botanic Gardens in the evening and what he captured instead was a series of three photos with a red object speeding through them. And Russell says what is seen on the photos is a UFO.

In a series of tweets, Crowe explained his UFO photos. The first tweet on March 8th announced that he’d captured a UFO on three time lapse photos taken in 4.5 seconds, and he posted a link to this video of them on Youtube:

He followed up that tweet with this explanation: “I will grant you at the time the music wasn’t playing, also, yes, we have pushed in on the frame..this is 3 photo’s in order, nothing added.”

Then, on March 8th Crowe responded to a theory about the UFO with this tweet: “re UFO? It can’t be a yacht, would have to be travelling 80kmph (50mph) to cover that distance in 4.5 seconds.”

So, what is it that flies by on the three photos? It’s definitely not bats, obviously, and various theories have been thrown out – most of which have been shot down. But this new video from ParaBreakdown offers what could be the most convincing explanation yet:

‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Blu-ray and DVD Review

Pictures and MGM. Photo by James Fisher

Warner Home Video is releasing The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on Blu-ray Combo Pack and 2-Disc DVD on March 19, 2013, with over two hours of bonus material. The first of a planned trilogy of films featuring hobbits, elves, dwarfs, wizards, and other Middle Earth creatures, The Hobbit on home video provides a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the project. The ‘Making Of’ material is extensive – as expected with a Peter Jackson film – although a good deal of it is material we’ve seen posted on the internet during the production of the movies.

Visually, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey makes the leap to home video with the colors just as vibrant as on theater screens. As the theatrical release didn’t benefit from the use of 3D, the lack of the format on the Blu-ray and DVD makes little to no difference in whether Hobbit fans will enjoy the movie equally well on home video as they did in theaters.

And while the bonus material is a bit lacking (if you’re into behind-the-scenes content, you’ve probably already seen it online), there are 130 minutes of material included on all editions of the home video release. “New Zealand: Home of Middle Earth” is one of the better features, exploring the physical location of the sets with interviews with cast members and crew. The other videos examine different aspects of The Hobbit shoot with inside details on the sets, the costumes, the characters, and the world of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Hobbit.

For those willing to wait a while, Jackson will be releasing a The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition during the holidays with additional footage. And for Hobbit fans who are anxiously anticipating The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, anyone who purchases the Blu-ray or DVD will have access to register to be part of the special live online event on March 24, 2013 hosted by Peter Jackson showcasing material from the second film of the trilogy.
