After William Shatner as Captain Kirk beams into the Oscar show to tell Seth MacFarlane he’ll be remembered as an awful host, MacFarlane tried to remedy the situation with a series of song and dance numbers. Kicking things off, Channing Tatum and Charlize Theron floated across the floor as MacFarlane crooned “The Way You Look Tonight.”

No matter what you think of the actual 85th Annual Academy Awards opening bit, the dance was gorgeous and Tatum and Theron lit up the stage.

Jennifer Lawrence rocks. Yes, she does. Even after falling walking up the stairs to accept her Best Actress Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook, she barely missed a beat. Her acceptance speech began by thanking the audience for her standing ovation.

“You guys are just standing up because you feel bad that I fell and that’s really embarrassing – but thank you,” said newly minted Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence. “Thank you to the Academy and thank you to the women this year. You were so magnificent and so inspiring, and not just those of you in my category. And it’s been so amazing getting to know you. You’ve been so nice and you’ve made this experience unforgettable.”

Christoph Waltz + Quentin Tarantino = Oscar Gold. By pairing up a second time with Tarantino, Waltz earned his second Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Their first pairing resulted in Waltz picking up the Best Supporting Actor for his work in Inglourious Basterds, with pairing #2 – Django Unchained – adding more gold to his trophy shelf.

Waltz quoted his character, Dr. King Schultz, during his acceptance speech. “We participated in a hero’s journey – the hero here being Quentin. And you scale the mountain because you’re not afraid of it. You slay the dragon because you’re not afraid of it and you cross through fire because it’s worth it. I borrowed my character’s words so sorry… couldn’t resist. Thank you.”

Live during the 2013 Oscars, Adele’s gorgeous voice was drowned out by the band at the beginning of the song. She’s powerful, however her “Skyfall” performance suffered a bit from the overpowering band. But she still nailed it and looked absolutely beautiful doing it.

Later in the show, Adele won her first Academy Award for the James Bond theme song. She teared up quickly and couldn’t make it far through her acceptance speech which, on a night in which most winners didn’t get overly emotional, was a welcome sight.

Anne Hathaway Wins Best Supporting Actress – Oscar Speech

Shock…surprise…didn’t see this one coming… If any of those describe your reaction to Anne Hathaway’s win in the Best Supporting Actress category, then you hadn’t been paying attention to any awards shows prior to the Oscars. Hathaway took home the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her role as Fantine in Les Miserables, and accepting the award on stage during Hollywood’s biggest night, she said it was a dream come true. She also thanked her co-stars, her fellow nominees, and the Academy.

The Plot: Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells the story of ex-prisoner Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman), hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Russell Crowe), after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

Oscar favorite Meryl Streep had the honor of presenting Day-Lewis with his third Academy Award, and the critically acclaimed actor showed off his sense of humor by incorporating a job switch with Meryl into his acceptance speech.

‘Les Miserables’ Cast Perform at the 2013 Oscars

TV Land Debuts Forever Young in April 2013

TV LandTV Land’s ready to either turn generations against each other or have them reach a better understanding of one another with the new unscripted series, Forever Young. Coming to the network on April 3, 2013, the half-hour six-episode series features five people under the age of 30 and five people over the age of 70 sharing a house and – hopefully – learning from each other.

The series is from Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg’s Katalyst (Punk’d) and Eyeworks USA.

Announcing the premiere, TV Land President Larry W Jones stated: “As TV Land continues to produce original series, we are broadening our horizons and looking at both scripted and unscripted shows. Forever Young is the perfect example of what TV Land values in its original programming: an intriguing concept with humor and heart at its core.”

The Plot:

Forever Young chronicles five seniors – Lou, Emileen, Eugene, Shirley and Arthur – and five “juniors” – Mike, Christian, Andree, Sam and Angelina – as they embark on a journey to try to identify with the other generation. Teaching seniors how to master the techniques of beer pong and explaining to juniors that you can’t zoom in on a paper map may be more difficult than originally thought. Will the generation gap prove too big to cross with attitudes like “I can’t learn anything from you” flowing freely in the house?

Through tasks that will bond or break them, the housemates will learn to open up and share more of themselves with their counterparts than they ever thought possible. The generations may differ in fashion, technology, lifestyle and etiquette, but they will both learn at least one thing: how to stay “Forever Young.”
