The globe-trotting reality series The Amazing Race will return on February 17, 2013 at 8pm and in support of the upcoming premiere, CBS has released the names of the competitors hoping to win the $1 million grand prize. Season 22 will feature 11 teams as well as a brand new twist…ready for it? The winner of the first leg of the race will receive two Express Passes. One pass they will use on themselves when they need an edge in the race and the other they have to give to another team by the end of leg four.
 
Once again, Phil Keoghan will be on board as The Amazing Race.
 
CBS says that this season’s teams will make stops in Bora Bora where they’ll skydive, New Zealand where they’ll compete in a Shemozzle race, and they’ll embark on a scorpion hunt in Botswana.

What’s coming up on the 15th episode of season 5 on Star Wars: The Clone Wars? Cartoon Network offers up this synopsis: “With the backing of the Hutts and an army of the galaxy’s most vicious criminals – including the Death Watch, Black Sun and the Pykes – Pre Vizsla and Maul lead an attack on the planet of Mandalore. Conquest of Mandalore strains the tenuous alliance between the Sith and Death Watch in ‘Shades of Reason.'”

“Shades of Reason” airs on January 26, 2013 at 9:30am on Cartoon Network.

Music Spotlight: Paramore’s New Single

Paramore has finally released the first single from their upcoming album. The group just released “Now” from their self-titled album which is set to hit stores on April 9th, and it’s not exactly what we expected. But then again, this is the new Paramore minus Josh Farro and Zac Farro.
 
The group hasn’t released an official “Now” music video yet, but they are offering up the audio track now.

Greg Kinnear to Star in ‘Rake’ for Fox

Greg Kinnear will star as a brilliant but self-destructive criminal defense lawyer in the new Fox comedic/dramatic series, Rake. Kinnear will also be involved as co-executive producer on the series which just received a pilot order.

Peter Duncan created the critically acclaimed Australian series Rake is based on and will be executive producing this American version with Peter Tolan (Rescue Me) and Michael Wimer.

The Plot:

Rake follows the chaotic and comedic life of criminal defense lawyer KEEGAN JOYE (Kinnear). Brilliant, frustratingly charming, and with zero filter, Keegan is one of life’s great addicts. His staggering lack of discretion and inability to self-censor land him the cases that nobody else wants, but behind that lies a resolute optimism and belief in justice that fuel his dogged determination to defend those who seem beyond redemption.

In addition to Keegan’s cases within the justice system, the show follows his personal trials and tribulations, including his ongoing battle against the IRS, his mounting debt to his bookie, overlapping affairs and liaisons with women, a hormonal son, an exhausted ex-wife and the evolving relationship between his two married best friends, Ben and Scarlett.

Shakira is a New Mom

Shakira and Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué are the proud parents of a baby boy. The couple welcomed their first child on January 22, 2013 at 9:36pm in Barcelona, Spain. The couple named their son Milan Piqué Mebarak, with Shakira joking that “just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth.

”

“The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification,” said Shakira in an announcement on her official website.

Milan weighed a healthy 6 lbs 6 ounces and both mom and baby are doing fine.

In addition to taking care of baby Milan, Shakira will be handling judging duties on season 4 of NBC’s The Voice. CeeLo Green and Christina Aquilera are taking a break from the series to concentrate on their music, with Shakira and Usher tapped to fill their chairs.

‘Beautiful Creatures’ Shows Off a New Featurette

Writer/director Richard LaGravenese and actors Emma Thompson, Jeremy Irons, Viola Davis, and Emmy Rossum tell us what audiences can expect in this new featurette from Beautiful Creatures. Coming to theaters on Valentine’s Day, Beautiful Creatures stars newcomers Alice Englert and Alden Ehrenreich in the two lead roles.

The Plot:

Beautiful Creatures tells the tale of two star-crossed lovers: Ethan (Ehrenreich), a young man longing to escape his small town, and Lena (Englert), a mysterious new girl. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town.

Beyonce – Did She or Didn’t She Sing Live?

U.S. Marine Band spokesperson Kristen DuBois told the London Times that what the world heard during the 2013 Presidential Inauguration ceremony was a recording of Beyonce and not Beyonce singing live. The spokesperson also said the band was not playing during “The Star-Stangled Banner” and that it was pre-recorded.

“We did pre-record it,” said DuBois in an interview with The Times. “It was Beyoncé’s decision at the last minute to go with the pre-recorded version.”

However, after kicking off this did she or didn’t she lip-synch debate, the Marine Corps backpedaled a bit on whether Beyonce was using the pre-recorded track.

The full second statement by the US Marine Corps Band:

“The Presidential Inaugural Committee requested that the Marine Band accompany Beyonce Knowles-Carter in the performance of the Star-Spangled Banner at the 2013 Inaugural Ceremony. However, there was no opportunity for Ms. Knowles-Carter to rehearse with the Marine Band before the Inauguration so it was determined that a live performance by the band was ill-advised for such a high-profile event.

Each piece of music scheduled for performance in the Inauguration is pre-recorded for use in case of freezing temperatures, equipment failure, or extenuating circumstances. Regarding Ms. Knowles-Carter’s vocal performance, no one in the Marine Band is in a position to assess whether it was live or pre-recorded.”

And no one seems to be commenting on why, if she was lip-syncing, she removed her earpiece as the song hit its peak. Was that just for dramatic effect?

On a side note: Kelly Clarkson and James Taylor were both singing live.

New Kids, 98 Degrees, and Boyz II Men Announce 2013 Tour

Boy bands are back and New Kids On The Block, 98 Degrees, and Boyz II Men are ready to cash in on the One Republic, etc. craziness. NKOTB just announced they’ll be headlining a tour this summer, with 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men booked as special guests.

The three groups are teaming up for The Package Tour, marking the first time 98 Degrees has toured in over a dozen years. The tour kicks off on May 31 in Uncasville, CT and tickets will be on sale beginning February 2nd.

New Kids also announced they’ll be delivering a new album, 10, on April 2, 2013. The first single from the upcoming release is “Remix (I Like The)” which will drop on January 28th.

“Ladies, we’re coming for you,” stated NKOTB member Donnie Wahlberg. “This is going to be the craziest year yet-the single, the album, the tour with 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men … We can’t wait to give fans ‘The Package!'”

“We are really excited to get back on the road together and tour with our friends in NKOTB and Boyz II Men. Looking forward to playing our hits and trying out some of our new tracks too,” said 98 Degrees’ Nick Lachey.

“We couldn’t be more excited to join New Kids On The Block and 98 Degrees on ‘The Package Tour.’ This summer is going to be fun and fans will not want to miss it,” added Shawn Stockman.

Are you a big Insidious fan? If so, FilmDistrict’s set up a contest with you in mind. The studio, director James Wan, and screenwriter Leigh Whannell have created a contest to find the biggest fan, with the winner getting a walk-on role in Insidious Chapter 2, filming now in Los Angeles.

Wan, Whannell, and producer Jason Blum will be selecting the contest winner. The lucky fan will receive an all-expense paid trip for 2 to LA for the walk-on role.

Insidious Chapter 2 will be released on August 13, 2013 and brings back Insidious stars Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, and Ty Simpkins.
