Fans of The Soul Man and The Exes have reason to cheer, in addition to the fact it’s holiday season. TV Land has just announced the renewal of The Soul Man for a second season and the pick-up of The Exes for season three.

The network also announced the addition of Yvette Lee Bowser as showrunner on The Soul Man.

“We are so proud of these series and passionate about the characters,” stated Larry W. Jones, president of TV Land. “These shows, like our other originals, meet at the crossroads of humor, heart and second chances, making them uniquely suited for the TV Land brand.”

More on The Soul Man:

The Soul Man revolves around R&B superstar-turned-minister Reverend Boyce “The Voice” Ballentine (played by Cedric). Once living the high life in Las Vegas at the top of the music charts, Boyce relocated to St. Louis with his wife, Lolli (Niecy Nash) and went from soul singer to soul saver.

More on The Exes:

The Exes follows ladies’ man Phil (Donald Faison) and couch potato Haskell (Wayne Knight) living with clingy and recently-divorced Stuart (David Alan Basche) – a third roommate recently forced upon them by their landlord/divorce attorney, Holly (Kristen Johnston). Luckily, Holly is there to help avert any disasters – or in some cases, cause them. Meanwhile, Holly’s assistant, Eden (Kelly Stables), doesn’t exactly let professionalism get in the way of prying into her boss’s personal life.

‘Prosecuting Casey Anthony’ Set for January Debut

Prosecuting Casey Anthony

Lifetime is counting on the continuing curiosity in the Casey Anthony case to make their original Lifetime movie Prosecuting Casey Anthony a ratings success. The dramatic movie written by Alison Cross and based on the book Imperfect Justice: Prosecuting Casey Anthony by ex-prosecutor Jeff Ashton will have its world premiere on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 8pm.

Peter Werner (Justified, Medium) directs Rob Lowe as prosecutor Jess Ashton, the man in charge of the prosecution’s case. The real Jeff Ashton served as a consultant on the film.

The Details: Prosecuting Casey Anthony reveals Ashton’s inside story of the true crime drama that captivated and then shocked the nation when Caylee Anthony’s mother, Casey, was acquitted of killing her daughter, despite what many thought to be overwhelming evidence of guilt. But much of that “evidence” had nothing to do with direct evidence of guilt, but rather her behavior in the weeks between the disappearance of Caylee and Casey’s mother’s call to the police.

The movie is seen from Ashton’s (Lowe) perspective and takes viewers behind the scenes of both the investigation into Caylee’s tragic death and the ensuing trial, shedding new light on the many questions of what happened to the two year-old girl, how Ashton and his fellow prosecutors built their case and why a woman so shrouded in suspicion was proclaimed innocent. Also starring in the movie are Elizabeth Mitchell, who portrays lead prosecutor Linda Burdick; Oscar Nunez as Casey Anthony’s attorney Jose Baez; Marisa Ramirez plays Ashton’s wife Rita; Kevin Dunn as George Anthony and Virginia Welch is Casey Anthony.

‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Clip: Give Him the Contract

If Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) is going to set off on a big adventure with a group of dwarves and Gandalf the Grey (Sir Ian McKellen), he’s going to need to sign a contract. And that scene from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is featured in this new clip courtesy of filmmaker Peter Jackson.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters on December 14, 2012.

The Plot: The Hobbit follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters, and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s ‘precious’ ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

First Look: ‘The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia’ Trailer and Poster

A Haunting in Connecticut 2 Poster

Because the holiday season is the perfect time to get freaked out by a ghost story, Lionsgate Films has debuted the trailer for The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia along with the first poster. The 2013 horror film stars Chad Michael Murray, Abigail Spencer, Emily Alyn Lind, and Katee Sackhoff, and was directed by Tom Elkins.

The Plot: Building on the terror of A Haunting in Connecticut, this horrifying tale traces a young family’s nightmarish descent into a centuries-old Southern hell. When Andy Wyrick (Chad Michael Murray) moves his wife Lisa (Abigail Spencer, TV’s Mad Men) and daughter Heidi to a historic home in Georgia, they quickly discover they are not the house’s only inhabitants.

Joined by Lisa’s free-spirited sister, Joyce (Katee Sackhoff), the family soon comes face-to-face with a bone-chilling mystery born of a deranged desire…a haunting secret rising from underground and threatening to bring down anyone in its path.

And the Winner of ‘Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition’ Is…

Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition

Spoiler Alert! We’re about to reveal the winner of the first season of Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition. The spin-off…sort of…from the hugely successful <em>Dance Moms series featured Abby Lee Miller as the lead judge and Robin Antin (Pussycat Dolls founder) and dancer/choreographer Richard Jackson as her co-judges. And after a short 10-episode session of watching 12 young dancers compete to be named the best of the bunch, the winner is…

You’ve been warned – here it comes:

Brianna Haire was named the first winner of Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition. According to the official announcement, “Brianna proved to be a leap above the rest, beating out outstanding fellow dancers Madison O’Conner and Asia Monet Ray.” The judges admired her “versatile technique and ability to rise up and use her personal stories to channel emotions into her polished and entertaining performances.” As the winner, Brianna will receive a $100,000 cash prize as well as a scholarship to the Young Dancer Program at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York.

Details on Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition

Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition followed a dozen aspiring dancers — ages six through 13 – who learned new routines and competed in a number of challenges designed to test their skills before performing before Miller, Antin and Jackson, as well as a live audience, at the historic Los Angeles Theatre. Along the way, each competitor was accompanied and coached by his or her own mother, who made critical training, costume, music, and choreographic decisions for their child while also navigating the precarious waters of the other highly competitive parents.

Miller, Antin, and Jackson made the sometimes easy and other times difficult decision to eliminate one dancer each week, the intense on-stage competition and stakes between dancers and mothers increased throughout the season – culminating with a finale performance that assuredly will change the winning dancer’s life forever.

Paul McCartney and Nirvana Perform Cut Me Some Slack

The 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy relief benefit concert featured some killer acts trying to drum up money for a good cause, and none of the acts were more anticipated than Paul McCartney’s collaboration with Nirvana. Dave Grohl, Krist Noveselic and Pat Smear joined McCartney, subbing for Kurt Cobain, to perform a new song called “Cut Me Some Slack,” a hard rocking tune that proved McCartney at 70 can still pull off a helluva performance.

The song will be featured in Grohl’s upcoming film Sound City.
