Robert Zemeckis’ Flight, the dramatic mystery thriller starring Denzel Washington, will be the Closing Night film at the 2012 New York Film Festival. The NYFF runs September 28th through October 14th, and tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning September 9th.
Announcing the world premiere of Flight, Richard Peña, Selection Committee Chair & Program Director, The Film Society of Lincoln Center said, “We’re delighted to welcome Robert Zemeckis to the New York Film Festival for the first time. A director equally known for delighting audiences as well as for pushing the technological limits of filmmaking, Zemeckis has created with Flight a remarkable film about one man’s journey to some of the darkest parts of his soul.”
Rose Kuo, Executive Director, The Film Society of Lincoln Center added, “Robert Zemeckis has shown his diversity as a storyteller in comedies, dramas and has skillfully translated narratives into special effect environments. It is a pleasure to see him bring to life this complicated, tragic-comic portrait of a man in crisis, with an exceptional and poignant performance by Denzel Washington.”
Flight will hit theaters on November 2, 2012.
The Plot:
Washington stars as Whip Whitaker, a seasoned airline pilot who miraculously crash lands his plane after a mid-air catastrophe, saving nearly every passenger on board. Although he is immediately acclaimed as a hero, the legal, moral and ethical aspects of Whip’s behavior before and after the accident are much more ambiguous than initially meet the public eye.

Hell on Wheels Cast Talks Season 2
“I think that we’ve done a really good job of making this second season a more character-driven show,” says Anson Mount in this behind the scenes video from the set of AMC’s Hell on Wheels. Kicking off tonight, season two finds ‘Cullen’ (Mount) adjusting to life after Hell on Wheels while Elam (Common) is charged with dealing with a posse that’s been robbing Durant’s (Colm Meaney) payroll.
“I’m just going where Elam’s going to go, where the writers are going to take him. But I think it’s a very great place and I already love where we are with him,” explains Common. “I feels great to be in that position of power and to walk around town with some muscle.”

Michael Phelps Goes from Olympic Gold to Golf
If you hold more Olympic medals than any other human who’s ever walked the planet, you’re photogenic, and articulate, you can probably pretty much choose what TV project you want to become involved with, right? It appears that Phelps, the winner of 22 Olympic medals, has chosen a golf show as his next big project.
The record-breaking Olympic swimmer has retired from competitive swimming and is now ready to take on the sport/leisure activity of golf. He’ll be coached by Golf Channel’s Hank Haney as he tackles the world’s best golf courses as the focus of the fifth season of The Haney Project debuting in February 2013.
“I have traveled the world through swimming, but really haven’t had an opportunity to experience the world through my travels,” said Phelps in the official announcement. “As I enter this next chapter of my life, I think I will be able to shift my competitiveness to anything I put my mind to and golf is one of the things I want to focus on. If I have a goal of dropping a certain amount of shots, or working on my short game or putting, those things are going to keep me motivated and fire me up and keep me excited. I want to play all the world’s great golf courses, but I’d like to play them well. I’m excited about this project with Golf Channel and I’m looking forward to working with Hank and see what we can do together on the golf course.”
“We look forward to chronicling Michael’s transition from the most-decorated Olympian in history to a frustrated golfer trying to enjoy playing the world’s greatest golf courses,” added Golf Channel President Mike McCarley. “Golfers everywhere will be able to relate to his quest to improve his game.”
Phelps and Haney will be starting work on The Haney Project next month.
Per Golf Channel:
Each episode of The Haney Project will follow Phelps on his quest to play better golf, whether it’s one-on-one instruction on the golf course with Haney or developing lessons he will be able to practice on his own. The series also will showcase Phelps in his own environment with cameos by famous friends and other experts who check in on him during his journey, including his mother, Debbie Phelps.

‘Guys with Kids’ Preview: Plot, Cast and Video

NBC’s introducing the half-hour comedy Guys with Kids on September 26, 2012. Emmy Award winner Jimmy Fallon executive produces and Jesse Bradford and Anthony Anderson lead the show’s cast.
Zach Cregger, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Tempestt Bledsoe, and Erinn Hayes also star in season one.
The Synopsis: Guys with Kids is a comedy about three thirty-something dads who try to hold on to their youth as they face the responsibilities of having kids. Thankfully, Gary (Anderson), Chris (Bradford) and Nick (Cregger) have each other to help navigate the highs and lows of fatherhood — while still trying desperately to remain dudes.
Balancing work or staying at home, happily married or happily divorced, taking care of the “littles,” while maintaining a social life is a daily challenge. Whether it’s hosing down their babies in the kitchen sink or hitting the bar strapped with “babybjörns,” these guys are taking on fatherhood in ways no one has ever seen before. Nick and Gary’s wives — Emily (Sigler) and Marny (Bledsoe)–as well as Chris’s ex-wife Sheila (Erinn Hayes)–also offer their own parenting advice.
Dads today are more involved in their kids’ lives than ever, and these guys are no exception. No tantrum is too loud, no diaper is too dirty — Nick, Chris, and Gary are up to the challenge.

Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time — five tons of weapons-grade plutonium, far more than enough to change the balance of power in the world. ‘Grimm’ – A Recap of Season One

I wish every series provided a seven minute recap prior to the debut of a new season. NBC has put the basics of Grimm‘s season one together in this video which provides pretty much everything you need to know before season two premieres on Monday, August 13, 2012.
The Plot:
Grimm is a drama series inspired by the classic Grimm Brother’s Fairy Tales. After Portland homicide detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) discovers he’s descended from an elite line of criminal profilers known as ‘Grimms,’ he increasingly finds his responsibilities as a detective at odds with his new responsibilities as a Grimm.
His attempts to shield his fiancée, Juliette Silverton (Bitsie Tulloch), and his partner, Hank Griffin (Russell Hornsby), from the hazards of his new life have reached a crisis, leaving Juliette in a mysterious coma and Hank on the verge of a mental breakdown.
With help from his confidants, Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and Rosalee (Bree Turner) — both reformed Grimm creatures, Nick must help those closest to him while still facing off against all manner of ancient evils, including royal lines dating back to the original profilers themselves, the Grimm Brothers. As Nick develops his ability to harness his inner Grimm, he begins to question what he once knew, never more so than when he is reunited with his mother (guest star Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio), also a Grimm, whom he thought dead for the past 18 years.

Music Spotlight: Yes, Yet Another “Call Me Maybe” Viral Video

Seriously, is there any group that hasn’t made a “Call Me Maybe” video? The US Olympic Swim Team, Sesame Street and Cookie Monster, Harvard’s Baseball Team…there’s even a Corgi (‘Corgi Rae Jepsen’) “Call Me Maybe” video. So, are we sick and tired/over and down with these? No way.
In the spotlight today is the “Call Me Maybe” video featuring US Marines. Put together by Eric Raum, the video was shot quickly so as not to keep the Marines from their work and was shot with the cooperation of the Marine command in Kandahar as a morale booster. Each group of Marines featured was only available for an hour, so Raum and Randy Moresi had to teach the song – and the moves – in a very short time.
Says Raum on his official site: “I wanted to note here that this didn’t cost anything to make, was filmed on a lunch break, and had a great impact on the morale of not only the service members in the video, but those we’ve shared it with since. It is important to take a break and have some fun every once and a while, whether you’re back in the states hanging with friends and family, or serving your country under the unrelenting Afghanistan sun.”
