Matthew McConaughey, last seen dancing for our pleasure in Magic Mike, stars alongside Zac Efron, Nicole Kidman, Macy Gray, David Oyelowo, and John Cusack in the sexually charged film, The Paperboy. Directed by Lee Daniels (Precious), The Paperboy is set in the swamplands of South Florida in the ’60s and will be heading to theaters on October 5, 2012.

The Plot:

The Paperboy dips into the gritty human underside of a murder investigation, as a compelling cast of characters confront obsession, deception and their own dark, dark demons on the muddy road towards retribution.

It all begins in the steamy rural backwater of Moat County, Florida, where things have been done the same way for decades, yet change is bubbling beneath the surface. Boyish Jack Jansen (Efron), son of the local newspaper publisher, has just returned home after being kicked out of college, only to take the lowly job of paperboy. But that too changes when his idolized journalist brother Ward (McConaughey) comes to town from Miami on the trail of a story that could make his career.

Bringing in tow his hotshot writing partner Yardley (Oyelowo) and the alluring death-row groupie Charlotte Bless (Kidman), Ward plans to prove that an innocent man has been railroaded on his way to the electric chair. With Jack as their driver, the quartet arranges to meet Hillary Van Wetter (Cusack), the seedy alligator hunter hastily convicted of killing the local sheriff, at the prison. But what erupts between them all is a tangled web of sexual tension, mixed motives and shadowy facts that will set off not only a search for the truth but a chain reaction of passion and violence. Observing it all is Jack’s only real confidante — the disregarded family maid Anita (Gray) – who watches in dismay as his innocence is turned inside out.

Before the big cheating scandal news broke, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Mackenzie Foy, and Twilight author Stephenie Meyer took part in a press conference at Comic Con to kick off the PR campaign for the final film of the series, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2.

Among the items discussed were their favorite moments from the set, the possibility of Summit rebooting the franchise with a different cast, and what they share in common with their characters.

‘Cosmopolis’ Film Clip Starring Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson has to explain where he’s been in this new clip from David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis.

Pattinson’s co-star Sarah Gadon says: “I don’t like saying this…you smell of sex.” To which Pattinson replies, “That’s my doctor’s appointment you smell.” It’s a conversation that confirms this definitely isn’t a Twilight movie.

Based on the novella by Don DeLillo, Cosmopolis stars Pattinson, Paul Giamatti, Juliette Binoche, Samantha Morton, Jay Baruchel, and Kevin Durand.

The Plot:

Cosmopolis is a day in the life of Eric Packer, a 28-year-old New York stock market multi-millionaire, as he crosses Manhattan in his customized limousine to go for a haircut. His cross-town journey becomes an almost vertical voyage, with bizarre occurrences and an authentic parade of crazy characters along the way, in a landscape that depicts the modern soul of the West at the end of the millennium.

New York City, not-too-distant-future: Eric Packer, a 28-year-old finance golden boy dreaming of living in a civilization ahead of this one, watches a dark shadow cast over the firmament of the Wall Street galaxy, of which he is the uncontested king. As he is chauffeured across midtown Manhattan to get a haircut at his father’s old barber, his anxious eyes are glued to the yuan’s exchange rate: it is mounting against all expectations, destroying Eric’s bet against it. Eric Packer is losing his empire with every tick of the clock.

Meanwhile, an eruption of wild activity unfolds in the city’s streets. Petrified as the threats of the real world infringe upon his cloud of virtual convictions, his paranoia intensifies during the course of his 24-hour cross-town odyssey. Packer starts to piece together clues that lead him to a most terrifying secret: his imminent assassination.

Jon Stewart Takes NBC to Task on the Opening Ceremony Coverage

NBC choose to edit out a tribute to the 7/7 London subway bombings victims and instead aired an interview with Ryan Seacrest talking to Michael Phelps during the 2012 London Olympics Opening Ceremony. That angered a lot of people who don’t have an outlet to point out NBC’s dumb choice. Fortunately, Jon Stewart can be counted on to speak frankly about news/special event coverage and did so on the July 30th episode of The Daily Show, speaking for many viewers who were dismayed over the network’s decision.

“Are you…! NBC, the network that to commemorate 9/11 actually reruns 9/11, you wouldn’t air a six-minute tribute to the rest of the world’s terrorist victims? Because the world’s most overexposed land-based mammal had a chance to speak to the world’s most overexposed water-based mammal? Why would you do that?,” asked an incredulous Stewart.

The 2012 London Olympics have millions of viewers riveted to their televisions, with the networks attempting to shine the spotlight on just about every sport involved in the Games (although not all make it to primetime). But it was The Hunger Games that actually helped thrust one often-ignored Olympic sport into the spotlight. Archery has increased in popularity with the release of The Hunger Games film, and in fact it was Team USA member Khatuna Loring who taught Jennifer Lawrence to handle a bow and arrow for the film.

In support of both the Olympics and the August 18, 2012 release of The Hunger Games on Blu-ray and DVD, Lionsgate’s released this photo of Lorig posing as Katniss Everdeen. Lorig’s pictured wearing a replica jacket from The Hunger Games as well as a mockingjay pin.

Paranormal Activity 4 Poster

After a series of teases, the official first trailer for Paranormal Activity 4 has arrived, along with the movie’s first poster and news of a ‘see it first’ campaign. Following the same sort of format as Paranormal Activity 1, 2, and 3, Paranormal Activity 4 will pick up from where #2 ended.

#3 directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman return, working off a script from Zack Estrin (The River).

“This October, all the activity has led to this…”

And here are the details for the “Want It” campaign, if you want to be among the first to see the fourth entry in this horror franchise:

“Facebook’s 955 million global fans can vote for an advance screening in their city by clicking on the ‘Want It’ button on the film’s fan page at Facebook.com/ParanormalActivity.

‘Want It’ is a dynamic application utilizing Facebook’s open graph technology that gives fans the opportunity to vote to bring the franchise to their city and leverage their social networks to ensure they are one of the top 25 winning locations. The application recognizes a fan’s geo-location according to their Facebook profile and automatically registers a vote to bring the film to their city first. Votes will be shared on a fan’s page and automatically posted to the Facebook newsfeed to rally their peers to bring the film to their city first too.

The application feeds individual votes into a dynamic leaderboard that shows the ranking of every city in real-time. Audiences can track the top cities as well as the ranking of their own city as well as push-out reminders encouraging friends to vote. ‘Want It’ brings an unprecedented level of interactivity for fans in determining screenings of the movie.”

Spotlight On: Matchbox Twenty She’s So Mean Music Video

“And you want her…but she’s so mean.”

The music video for “She’s So Mean,” Matchbox Twenty’s first single off of their upcoming album, North, just debuted. For the most part, the video concentrates on showing the band performing the song with the ‘girl’ just causing trouble by trashing things as they try to finish the performance.

“She’s So Mean” is currently resting at #13 on the Hot AC chart.

North is only the group’s fourth studio album, and the first new studio album in 10 years. Matchbox Twenty – Rob Thomas, Paul Doucette, Kyle Cook and Brian Yale – lived together in Nashville during the summer of 2011 to collaborate on the album’s tracks, ultimately reuniting with Grammy Award-winning producer Matt Serletic at his Emblem Studios in Calabasas, California to put together the album.

Matchbox Twenty’s sold over 30 million records worldwide and earned five Grammy nominations. North will be available on September 4, 2012.
