Robert Pattinson and Paul Giamatti are featured in these two clips from Cosmopolis, the thriller directed by David Cronenberg and based on the novel by Don DeLillo. The R-rated drama also features Juliette Binoche, Sarah Gadon, Mathieu Amalric, Jay Baruchel, Kevin Durand, K’Naan, Emily Hampshire, and Samantha Morton, and begins its limited release in theaters on August 17, 2012.

The Plot:

Unfolding in a single cataclysmic day, the story follows Eric Packer (Robert Pattinson) – a 28-year old financial whiz kid and billionaire asset manager – as he heads out in his tricked-out stretch limo to get a haircut from his father’s old barber, while remotely wagering his company’s massive fortune on a bet against the Chinese Yuan. Packer’s luxe trip across the city quickly becomes dizzyingly hellish as he encounters explosive city riots, a parade of provocative visitors, and is thrust into a myriad of intimate encounters. Having started the day with everything, believing he is the future, Packer’s perfectly ordered, doubt-free world is about to implode.

Movie Review: ‘ParaNorman’

A Scene from ParaNorman

“Do you see ghosts everywhere, all the time?,” asks Neil (Tucker Albrizzi). “Uhh…yeah,” replies Norman (Kodi Smit-McPhee), a bright and misunderstood boy who sees and talks to the dead – the only ones, other than Neil, who like Norman in the 3D stop-motion animated film, ParaNorman.

Norman is just a little obsessed with horror movies because of his strange gift, and no one in town – not even his own family – understands him. His father thinks he’s weird, his sister doesn’t like him, and his classmates always pick on him. But when Norman is visited by the ghost of the town’s local crazy person, Mr. Prenderghast (John Goodman), and is told that the spirit of the town’s centuries-old witch is going to wake up and raise the dead, it falls to Norman to try to stop it.

The spirit tells Norman he must go to where the witch is buried and read from the book left in Prendeghast’s home. After finally getting the book, Norman races to the ancient abandoned graveyard and finds where there are tombstones from centuries ago, and begins to read. Unfortunately, Norman is interrupted by Alvin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), the school bully who loves to torment Norman and followed him to the graveyard. This is something Alvin quickly regrets when he sees a horrible, evil-looking large face in the sky laughing and watches, with Norman, as zombies rise from their graves.

Now it’s going to be up to Norman, his sister Courtney (Anna Kendrick), his best friend Neil, Neil’s big brother Mitch (Casey Affleck), and Alvin to find a way to stop the witch’s plan of destroying the town by putting the zombies back in their graves for good.

Hilarious and spooky, ParaNorman is a fun-filled, zombie-infested adventure that has the perfect mix of laughs and fright. The film has an extremely talented cast of actors lending their voices to the characters. Anna Kendrick is flawless as the voice of Courtney, the nagging, bossy big sister of Norman who would rather be home on the phone talking to her friends or flirting with Mitch than looking out for her little brother and, of course, running from zombies.

Casey Affleck has some of the best lines in the film as the voice of Mitch, Neil’s not-too-bright but very loyal big brother who never really catches on to what’s happening and what they have to do to save the town. He makes Shaggy from the Scooby-Doo cartoons look like a genius.

The film’s writing is strong with laugh-out-loud lines with a few life lessons and a deeper emotional underlying story than one would expect from an animated movie about ghosts, zombies, and a witch. The movie is also a visual delight with bright, beautiful, colorful animation bringing the characters and action to life. It’s the best-looking animated film this year by far.

One word of warning: some of the scenes near the end of the film with the zombies, the witch, and her past may be too dark and disturbing for children under eight years old.

Clever, creepy, and funny, ParaNorman offers a unique and creative take on the zombie, witch’s curse/ghost story and makes it a frightfully fun time. Make sure to take the family to catch it up on the big screen for a ghoulishly good time.

GRADE: B

ParaNorman hits theaters on August 17, 2012 and is rated PG for scary action and images, thematic elements, some rude humor and language.

After 11 grueling weeks of competition on The Glee Project, it all came down to the final episode in which Aylin Bayramoglu, Ali Stroker and Blake Jenner had to perform their homework assignment – “You Can’t Stop the Beat” from Hairspray. Mentor Chris Colfer who plays Kurt Hummel on Glee was there to help them out, and all of this season’s eliminated contestants came back and sang Hot Chelle Rae’s “Tonight Tonight” as part of the main challenge.

The winner of season two of The Glee Project nabbed a seven episode arc on the musical comedy/drama series on Fox. So, who won? Ready for it… 19 year old Blake Jenner. The Miami, Florida teen performed “I’ll Be” by Edwin McCain as his ‘last chance performance song’ and wowed the judges including Ryan Murphy, on-air mentors Robert Ulrich, Zach Woodlee and Nikki Anders, Glee co-creator and writer, Ian Brennan, and some of Glee‘s core writing staff.

Jenner, who’s never taken a singing lesson, has always wanted to be an actor. His guest-starring arc on Glee will take place during the fourth season of the series.

The Last Stand Trailer Shows Arnold Back in Action

…and Johnny Knoxville wearing weird hats. Why? Who knows.

Arnold Schwarzenegger stars in the action drama The Last Stand, Korean director Kim Jee-woon’s US feature film debut. Also starring Forest Whitaker, Eduardo Noriega, Rodrigo Santoro, Peter Stormare, Luis Guzman and Jaimie Alexander, The Last Stand is set to hit theaters on January 18, 2013.

The Plot:

After leaving his LAPD narcotics post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with remorse and regret, Sheriff Ray Owens (Schwarzenegger) moved out of Los Angeles and settled into a life fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction. But that peaceful existence is shattered when Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega), the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the western hemisphere, makes a deadly yet spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy.

With the help of a fierce band of lawless mercenaries led by the icy Burrell (Peter Stormare), Cortez begins racing towards the US-Mexico border at 250 mph in a specially-outfitted Corvette ZR1 with a hostage in tow.  Cortez’ path:  straight through Summerton Junction, where the whole of the U.S. law enforcement, including Agent John Bannister (Forest Whitaker) will have their final opportunity to intercept him before the violent fugitive slips across the border forever.

At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately rallies his team and takes the matter into his own hands, setting the stage for a classic showdown.

“Midnight Run” Music Video – ‘Lawless’

Lawless Soundtrack

Willie Nelson’s previously unreleased track, “Midnight Run,” will be featured in the dramatic film Lawless starring Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Jason Clarke, and Guy Pearce. Nelson’s song is included on the movie’s soundtrack set for release on August 28, 2012 by Sony Music, and he’ll be appearing on August 25th at the Alamo Draft House in Austin for a special advance screening to show his support of the film.

Directed by John Hillcoat (The Proposition, The Road) from a script by Nick Cave, The Weinstein Company’s Lawless hits theaters on August 31st.

“You see Lawless and you hear the music Nick Cave and Warren Ellis created for the film, and Willie and his music come to mind immediately,” stated TWC Co-Chairman Harvey Weinstein. “He is more than a natural fit. His music is lawless, and his contribution to this film we’re so proud of is one of the most organic unions I’ve ever been a part of.”

“It is important that true stories like these from America’s past are kept alive,” said Nelson. “I didn’t hesitate to collaborate on this project as someone with a deep love for Western history and of course country music.”

The Plot:

Lawless is the true story of the freewheelin’ Bondurant brothers, bootlegging siblings taking the law into their own hands. This is the story of the rural hard-men that created the big city gangsters. Brazen and fearless, these young rebel brothers helped build the American Dream in this exuberant tale of what was to become crime’s first major gold rush. The youngest brother, JACK (LaBeouf), fancies himself the next Al Capone; he dreams of sharp suits, guns, girls and fast cars, no matter the cost.

Ambitious and impulsive, he takes the family’s small-scale moonshining operation to the big leagues to impress the gorgeous but off-limits Amish girl, BERTHA (Mia Wasikowska). The middle brother, HOWARD (Clarke), is the brawling muscle – loyal but reckless – never one to turn down a taste of white lightning. And eldest brother, FORREST (Hardy), reluctantly accepts the changing times with grace and grit, leading the family with strength of character and silent determination against the beginnings of corporate greed. An enigmatic and stunning MAGGIE (Jessica Chastain) comes to town with a hidden past, igniting his passion and almost saving him in the process.

As the Bondurants’ legend grows, so too does the danger, and it’s not long before the brothers must face the consequences of their transgressions or rewrite the myth and the law themselves.

Dexter Season 7 Trailer is Packed with Hints and Teases

“Many have met the dark passenger…few have survived”

Showtime’s done an amazing job of teasing viewers with this new trailer from the upcoming seventh season of Dexter. Deb’s confused about whether to help her brother or turn him in now that she knows something about his dark secret, a blood slide is discovered where it shouldn’t be, and the walls are closing in on Dexter.

“The only thing worse than not knowing what she’ll do, is not knowing what I’ll do,” admits Dexter (Michael C Hall) as the trailer fades out.

Dexter returns on September 30, 2012.
