The Singer by Art Garfunkel Track Details

The Singer Art GarfunkelArt Garfunkel personally selected all 34 songs for his upcoming compilation album, The Singer. The new album is set to hit stores on August 28th and chronicles his work, beginning with the first Simon & Garfunkel album released way back in 1964 and including two newly recorded performances of “Lena” and “Long Way Home.”

The five-time Grammy Award winner also provided handwritten track-by-track annotations which will be included in the booklet with the two-disc CD.

“What is the singing voice to me? A name, a skill, or a flag I see? A certain thrill – the gift of glide, the ride on the cusp of emotion, uplift from the heart to the cords, love for the song, for the sound,” stated Garfunkel.

From 4 of the original S&G studio albums (and all-time best-selling Greatest Hits, 14-times RIAA platinum, the largest selling album of all time by a duo):

— Wednesday Morning, 3 AM (1964) – “The Sound Of Silence”
— Sounds Of Silence (1966) – “April Come She Will”
— Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme (1966) – “Scarborough Fair/Canticle”
— Bridge Over Troubled Water (1970) – “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “So Long Frank Lloyd Wright”
— Greatest Hits (1972) – “For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her”

From the Simon & Garfunkel live concert album:

— Old Friends: Live On Stage (2004) – “Kathy’s Song”

From 10 of Art Garfunkel’s solo albums:

— Angel Clare (1973) – “Barbara Allen”
— Breakaway (1975) – “Breakaway,” “I Only Have Eyes For You,” “99 Miles From L.A.,” “My Little Town,” “Disney Girls,” “Waters Of March”
— Watermark (1978) – “(What A) Wonderful World”
— Fate For Breakfast (UK, 1979) – “Bright Eyes” (from Watership Down)
— Scissors Cut (1981) – “Scissors Cut,” “A Heart In New York,” “In Cars”
— The Animals’ Christmas (with Amy Grant, 1986) – “The Decree”
— Lefty (1988) – “The Promise,” “I Wonder Why,” “When A Man Loves A Woman”
— up ’til now (1993) – “All I Know,” “Crying in the Rain,” “Two Sleepy People,” “Skywriter”
— everything waits to be noticed (2002) – “Perfect Moment,” “The Thread”
— Some Enchanted Evening (2007) – “Some Enchanted Evening,” “I’ve Grown Accustomed To Her Face”

Finally, THE SINGER continues to underscore Garfunkel’s near-lifelong association with the music of composer Jimmy Webb. After recording 1978’s Watermark with the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, which contained 10 Webb compositions, Garfunkel said in his understated manner, “I like the idea of inviting people to consider this man… Jimmy Webb.” THE SINGER contains some rarely anthologized Webb tunes recorded over the years by his friend: “Scissors Cut” and “In Cars.”

Blake Lively Discusses ‘Savages’

Universal Pictures is releasing Savages on July 6th, pitting the dramatic thriller from director Oliver Stone up against The Amazing Spider-Man at the box office. And in support of the film’s theatrical release, the studio has provided this video interview with Blake Lively who plays ‘O,’ the girlfriend of best friends and pot-growing partners Ben (Aaron Johnson) and Chon (Taylor Kitsch), in the R-rated drama.

In the video, Lively talks about her character and working with Savages co-stars Salma Hayek and Benicio Del Toro.

The Plot: Laguna Beach entrepreneurs Ben (Johnson), a peaceful and charitable Buddhist, and his closest friend Chon (Kitsch), a former Navy SEAL and ex-mercenary, run a lucrative, homegrown industry–raising some of the best marijuana ever developed. They also share a one-of-a-kind love with the extraordinary beauty Ophelia (Lively). Life is idyllic in their Southern California town…until the Mexican Baja Cartel decides to move in and demands that the trio partners with them.

When the merciless head of the BC, Elena (Salma Hayek), and her brutal enforcer, Lado (Benicio Del Toro), underestimate the unbreakable bond among these three friends, Ben and Chon–with the reluctant, slippery assistance of a dirty DEA agent (John Travolta)–wage a seemingly unwinnable war against the cartel. And so begins a series of increasingly vicious ploys and maneuvers in a high-stakes, savage battle of wills.

The ‘operatives’ include former U.S. Navy SEALS, Marines, Army Delta Force and Green Berets, as well as police officers.
