Disney’s upcoming Wreck-It Ralph brings the world of video game characters to life in an animated comedy for the whole family. Featuring the voices of Sarah Silverman, John C Reilly, and Jack McBrayer, Wreck-It Ralph is set to hit theaters this November.
The Plot:
Ralph is tired of being overshadowed by Fix-It Felix, the “good guy” star of their game who always gets to save the day. But after decades doing the same thing and seeing all the glory go to Felix, Ralph decides he’s tired of playing the role of a bad guy. He takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a game-hopping journey across the arcade through every generation of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero.
On his quest, he meets the tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun from the first-person action game Hero’s Duty. But it’s the feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz from the candy-coated cart racing game, Sugar Rush, whose world is threatened when Ralph accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens the entire arcade. Will Ralph realize his dream and save the day before it’s too late?
Official Synopsis: Emily (Kathryn McCormick) arrives in Miami with aspirations of becoming a professional dancer and soon falls in love with Sean (Ryan Guzman), a young man who leads a dance crew in elaborate, cutting-edge flash mobs, called “The Mob.” When a wealthy business man threatens to develop The Mob’s historic neighborhood and displace thousands of people, Emily must band together with Sean and The Mob to turn their performance art into protest art, and risk losing their dreams to fight for a greater cause.
Tom Cruise in 'Rock of Ages'Watching a Hollywood premiere online is almost as good as being there, especially with Warner Bros giving online viewers a front row seat at the Rock of Ages premiere by teaming up with NowLive. Among the celebs expected to hit the red carpet for the film’s LA premiere are Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Akerman, Mary J. Blige, Alec Baldwin, Tom Cruise, and director Adam Shankman.
The live stream event (set to begin on June 8th at 8:45pm PST) will deliver interviews from the red carpet as well as coverage of the after-party featuring performances by Poison and Def Leppard and interviews with Bret Michaels, Rick “Sav” Savage and Joe Elliott (hosted by Riki Rachtman).
In an attempt to help readers know where I’m coming from, let’s just say that I’m not one who worships at the altar of Wes Anderson. Rushmore is fine and I liked The Life Aquatic. The list ends there. I believe he’s a talented writer/director but the deadpan, dry-wit delivery style asked of the actors just doesn’t suit my own tastes.
The problem here is the adults. There is little to no development for any of them, and their involvement seems more like Anderson forcing his hand, making sure to include regulars of his films like Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman while also bringing in Tilda Swinton, Ed Norton, and Frances McDormand. They stumble and bicker and often deliver lines with the smallest amount of facial expression, as is the norm for Anderson’s work.
The production design is fun, as instead of evoking past periods in Americana and calling it modern day, setting this squarely in the ‘60s allows those touches to feel less like hipsterism. The costuming goes hand in hand with this and completes the quality aesthetic. Alexandre Desplat returns after working with Anderson on Fantastic Mr. Fox and delivers the kind of music one would expect in a project like this; lacking grand, sweeping compositions and instead going for all-out quirkiness which is apropos given the filmmaker.
Regarding compliments not needing so many qualifying remarks, the kids are all great, though they too are asked to paint expressionless masks on their faces. Scenes devoid of adult interaction are engaging and charming. It’s as if Anderson was split on what the focus of the story was and only casually attempted to flesh out the adults’ side of events. The telltale daddy issues apparent in each of his movies are here but aren’t as prominent as usual.
I would imagine hardcore fans of the director will be going to Moonrise Kingdomno matter what, though I’d say to temper expectations for comedy and expect more of a coming-of-age tale. Should you be only a casual fan or on the fence, this is easily a movie that can wait for the home market, or maybe not at all depending on your level of enjoyment of Anderson’s previous work.
GRADE: C
Moonrise Kingdom is rated PG-13 for sexual content and smoking.

Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In “Brave,” a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts.
Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Wise Woman (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.

The Plot:
Fusing the corporate shenanigans of 9 TO 5 with Office Space, and in the same vein as Horrible Bosses, Demoted boasts a star-studded ensemble cast including Michael Vartan, Oscar® nominated actor Sean Astin, Celia Weston, Sara Foster, Cleo King, Ron White, Robert Klein and Emmy® award winner David Cross.
For Mike (Astin) and Rodney (Vartan), life is good at the Treadline Tire Company. As topline salesmen, they strut through the cubicles, taunt smarmy underling Ken “Don’t Call Me Kenny!” Castro (Cross), hold court at their exclusive lunch room table, and cavort at strip clubs with their boss Bob Farrell (Klein). But when Farrell’s unexpected “departure” puts Castro in charge, the guys find themselves demoted and demoralized.
Now the target of harassment from the higher ups, Mike and Rodney – with the help of their fellow secretaries – will not only come to appreciate how everyone contributes to the success of a small business, but just might find a way to knock ol’ Kenny down a peg or two in the process, proving revenge is best served cold….just like office coffee.

Teen Titans Go! has been added to the lineup of DC Nation, so says Cartoon Network. The new half-hour animated superhero comedy series is inspired by Warner Bros. Animation’s original series Teen Titans and will debut on DC Nation next year.
The Plot:
Teen Titans Go! features the return of Robin, Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy and Cyborg in all-new, comedic adventures. Character-driven comedy is the order of the day as this new take on the super hero series focuses on the funny business that happens between saving the world and living together as teenagers without adult supervision. They may be super heroes who save the world every day … but somebody still has to do the laundry! With the ability to turn into any animal or detach their robotic limbs, teenage pranks reach a whole new level. And even super heroes have to take Driver’s Ed. to get a license – especially after wrecking the Batmobile on an unauthorized joy ride to impress a girl!
The Details:
Original voice cast members Greg Cipes as Beast Boy, Scott Menville as Robin, Khary Payton as Cyborg, Tara Strong as Raven and Hynden Walch as Starfire return for more Teen Titans adventures. Sam Register (Green Lantern: The Animated Series, The Looney Tunes Show, Teen Titans) is executive producing, with Michael Jelenic (ThunderCats, Batman: The Brave and the Bold) and Aaron Horvath (MAD, El Tigre) producing.
