‘The Hunger Games’ Soundtrack Sets a New iTunes Record

The Hunger Games Soundtrack

Well, well, well… Not only did The Hunger Games open huge in theaters, setting records for a non-sequel and nabbing the third highest opening weekend of all time, but the soundtrack has also proved to be a record-breaker. Universal Republic Records announced The Hunger Games: Songs From District 12 and Beyond now holds the record for the most sales of a soundtrack on iTunes.

The soundtrack also debuted at #1 on the iTunes album charts as well as the Billboard Top 200 (marking the first soundtrack to score a #1 debut since 2009). More than 175,000 units have already been sold.

Individual tracks off the soundtrack album have also been burning up the charts. Taylor Swift featuring The Civil Wars’ “Safe & Sound” hit #1 on iTunes as did Swift’s “Eyes Open.” Maroon 5’s “Come Away to the Water” also landed on the iTunes Top 100.

The Hunger Games Soundtrack List:

The Hunger Games Plot:

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Sixteen year old Katniss Everdeen volunteers in her younger sister’s place to enter the games, and is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy when she’s pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

CBS Wants More ‘Two and a Half Men’

The Hollywood Reporter says CBS and Warner Bros Television have offered Two and a Half Men stars Jon Cryer and Ashton Kutcher two year deals, however the offer apparently doesn’t include a raise in pay for either actor. Both Kutcher and Cryer make less than Charlie Sheen did, with Kutcher bringing in a little more than series veteran Cryer.

THR believes this offer will lead to a long negotiation process, with Kutcher likely seeking $1 million an episode in order to return to the show for two years. Next year – if there is a next year for the series – will be the 10th season of Two and a Half Men. Season 9 is up in ratings over season 8, thanks largely to the casting of Kutcher to take over for Sheen.

It’s Not You, It’s Me tells the story of Dave, a 30-something commitment-phobe, who breaks up with the love of his life thanks to conflicting advice from his outrageous, inner voices. Under pressure, he says the only thing he can think of to soften the blow, “It’s not you, it’s me.” Unfortunately, his near perfect, now ex-girlfriend Carrie has her own inner voices and they’re pushing her to move on with the next love of her life. Dave has to quickly come to terms with the fact that there may be some truth to his break-up line before she becomes, “the one that got away.”

In case you haven’t heard the news, MTV is bringing Jersey Shore back for a sixth season. MTV has announced there will indeed be yet another season of Jersey Shore that will begin production this summer. All eight cast members have signed on for the sixth season…Yes, you read that right…ALL EIGHT. That includes Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi who announced earlier this month she’s pregnant.

Your guess is as good as mine what a pregnant lady will do at the Jersey Shore, but I’m sure it will bring in huge ratings. MTV is keeping tight-lipped about the project. We’ll just have to wait and see what they will bring to the Jersey Shore later this year.

Cast:
Paul “Pauly D” Delvecchio
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi
Michael “The Situation” Sorrentino
Jennifer “JWoww” Farley
Ronnie Ortiz-Magro
Samantha “Sammi Sweetheart” Giancola
Vinny Guadagnino
Deena Nicole Cortese

The Dictator New Trailer

Paramount’s released the second trailer for the comedy The Dictator starring Sacha Baron Cohen, Anna Faris, and John C Reilly, and it gives away much, much more about the plot than has been previously disclosed. Baron Cohen’s dictator character comes to America, loses his beard and his identity, and is forced into taking a job working for Anna Faris’ character.

The official synopsis: The Dictator is the story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed.

The Dictator was directed by Larry Charles (who also directed Baron Cohen in Borat and Bruno) and is set to hit theaters on May 11, 2012.
