Katy Perry Releases Her New Single Part of Me

Katy Perry has released the official lyric video for her new single “Part of Me” following its debut at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards. The break-up anthem is coming out on the heels of Perry finalizing her divorce from comedian/actor/author Russell Brand and is definitely a “hear me roar” piece that shows nothing and no one will hold her down. The song will be included on the Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection releasing on March 26th.

Take a listen to the single and see what you think:

The Oprah Winfrey Network has announced a special two hour Remembering Whitney: The Oprah Interview show to air on February 16, 2012 from 9-11pm ET/PT. The show will feature Oprah’s in-depth interview with Whitney Houston as well as personal recollections of her relationship with the troubled singer.

Per OWN:

In September 2009 for the The Oprah Winfrey Show season 24 premiere, Winfrey sat down with Houston for a special one-on-one interview. After nearly seven years since the world heard the music icon’s voice, Houston gave an intimate and poignant performance of “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength.” She shared only with Winfrey the private struggles she tried to hide from public view and discussed openly about her marriage to R&B star Bobby Brown, her struggles with drug abuse and why she retreated from the spotlight.

Opening up to Winfrey like never before, Houston also spoke candidly of the day she left her husband, her sorrow over the death of Michael Jackson and her hopes for her future.

Tribeca Picks Up ‘Side by Side’ Documentary

Tribeca Film will be bringing Side by Side to North American audiences after picking up distribution rights to the documentary produced by Keanu Reeves and directed by Chris Kenneally. The inside look at the “technical and aesthetic implications of the transition from traditional film to digital technology” includes in-depth interviews on the topic with critically acclaimed filmmakers Danny Boyle, James Cameron, David Fincher, George Lucas, David Lynch, Christopher Nolan, Martin Scorsese, Steven Soderbergh, Lars Von Trier, Robert Rodriguez, and The Wachowskis.

Side by Side is premiering at the Berlin Film Festival on February 15, 2012, with Tribeca planning on a summer release of the documentary film.

“Cinema is at a tipping point. Digital has challenged, and in some ways completely overturned, a process of making movies on photochemical film that has been a tradition for over one hundred years,” stated director Chris Kenneally. “Side by Side is an intimate conversation between Keanu and the top professionals in the industry about this revolution and its impact.”

“Keanu Reeves has long distinguished himself with compelling and original performances, but with Side By Side he demonstrates another dimension: remarkable passion and thoughtfulness about the state of film itself,” added Nancy Schafer, EVP of Tribeca Enterprises. “Chris Kenneally has created a fantastic resource about the film medium and we are anticipating a great dialogue throughout this year as audiences experience Side by Side.”

The Story: Since the invention of cinema, the standard format for recording moving images has been film. Over the past two decades, a new form of digital filmmaking has emerged, creating a groundbreaking evolution in the medium.

The Walking Dead Season 2 Midseason Premiere Review

“There is no hope. You know that now,” says Hershel (Scott Wilson) to Rick (Andrew Lincoln), devastated after the barn massacre of all the zombies on his farm – including what used to be his wife and step-son – in the season 2 midseason premiere of the horror series, The Walking Dead.

Hershel is not the only one grieving a loss as little Sophia was revealed to be among the flesh-eaters being kept alive in the barn during the time the group had been out looking for her. Her mother, Carol (Melissa Suzanne McBride), is in shock and despair, desperately trying to convince herself her daughter died days ago and what was shot at the barn was nothing more than an undead ghoul and not her dear Sophia.

Meanwhile, Shane (Jon Bernthal) is making no excuses or apologies for the shooting spree he instigated at the barn and doesn’t miss an opportunity to challenge Rick’s authority and try to make himself the new leader of the group. Getting more and more concerned about Shane’s behavior, Dale (Jeffrey DeMunn) tells Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) he’s convinced Shane killed and sacrificed Otis (Pruitt Taylor Vince) to escape an army of hungry zombies and he believes it’s only a matter of time before Shane kills someone else.

When Hershel is discovered missing from the farm and one of his daughters has gone into extreme shock, Rick and Glenn (Steven Yeun) head into town to try to find him and bring him back home to treat her. This upsets Maggie (Lauren Cohan) who has now truly fallen head over heels for Glenn and fears for his safety out among the ‘Walkers’.

The Walking Dead: Season 2‘s midseason opener “Nebraska” continues the horror/soap opera series with less suspense and zombie attacks and more human drama and mourning for the loved ones lost. One of the best additions to the series is Scott Wilson as Hershel, the farm-owning doctor who was holding onto the hope eventually a cure would be found and he could save his wife and step-son from being flesh-eating creatures. His character brings emotional depth and spiritual awareness to a very dark and scary show.

Another plus to this season is the romantic relationship between Glenn (Steve Yeun) and Hershel’s daughter, Maggie (Lauren Cohan). The young lover’s plotline has shown a new protective, stronger side to Glenn and the two actors have solid chemistry.

One of the few down points in the series is the continuing downward spiral of Shane from being the strong second in command of the group to the irate, overbearing, violent and obnoxious member of the survivors. Jon Bernthal’s performance has gone from being a bit heavy-handed in some scenes to out and out over-the-top, even for a zombie apocalypse series.

Focused on the slow human drama of the cast and less of the terrifying suspense the series is known for, The Walking Dead benefits from the addition of new interesting and curious characters to an already strong cast. Here’s hoping that the band of survivors will soon leave their failing safe haven of a farm and head back out onto the open road where hope, new challenges, and of course hungry zombies await.

Whitney Houston Dies at 48

Whitney HoustonTroubled singer Whitney Houston has died at the age of 48, her publicist confirmed this evening. The Beverly Hills Police Department responded to the 4th floor of the Beverly Hilton Hotel (the site of Clive Davis’ pre-Grammys party) where their attempts to revive Houston were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m this afternoon.

Houston once reigned at the top of the charts but years of drug use took its toll on the Grammy-winning singer. Her attempted comeback tour in 2010 left fans disappointed over the condition of her voice and wondering whether she was still abusing drugs.

The Recording Academy issued this statement in response to Houston’s death:

Six-time GRAMMY® winner Whitney Houston was one of the world’s greatest pop singers of all time who leaves behind a robust musical soundtrack spanning the past three decades. Her powerful voice graced many memorable and award-winning songs. A light has been dimmed in our music community today, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, fans and all who have been touched by her beautiful voice.
