‘The River’ Buried Alive Sneak Peek

The cast of The River
The cast of 'The River' - ABC Television

ABC’s new paranormal thriller The River debuts on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 9:00 p.m., and if it’s anywhere near as interesting as its trailer, we’re in for a wild ride with this one. From Steven Spielberg and Oren Peli (the man behind the Paranormal Activity films), The River features a cast that includes Bruce Greenwood (Star Trek), Joe Anderson (Breaking Dawn Parts 1 and 2, The Grey), Leslie Hope (24), Eloise Mumford (Lone Star), Paul Blackthorne (Lipstick Jungle), Thomas Kretschmann (King Kong), Daniel Zacapa (Resurrection Blvd.), Shaun Parkes (The Mummy Returns), and Paulina Gaitán (Sin Nombre).

The Plot:

The River follows the story of world-famous wildlife expert and TV personality Dr. Emmet Cole, host of the beloved series The Undiscovered Country. After Cole goes missing deep in the Amazon, his family, friends and crew set out on a mysterious and deadly journey to find him. Led by his wife, Tess, and estranged son, Lincoln, the rescue mission will take them deep into the unexplored reaches on the Amazon River. A place where nature is cruel, magic is real, and nothing is what it seems.

Famed explorer Dr. Emmet Cole (Bruce Greenwood) went looking for magic deep in the uncharted Amazon and never returned. The shocking truth about his disappearance is out there, waiting to be discovered. To the millions of kids who grew up watching his show, Dr. Cole was a hero. To his own son, Lincoln (Joe Anderson), he was more of an enigma. Now, six months after he vanished, Lincoln is finally ready to bury the past when Dr. Cole’s emergency beacon suddenly goes off.

At the urging of his mother, Tess (Leslie Hope), Lincoln reluctantly joins her on a search for his father. To fund the rescue, they agree to let Dr. Cole’s cagey ex-producer, Clark (Paul Blackthorne), film the mission documentary-style. The mixed crew of old friends and new acquaintances includes the alluring and resourceful Lena (Eloise Mumford), loyal mechanic Emilio (Daniel Zacapa) and lethal bodyguard Captain Kurt Brynildson (Thomas Kretschmann).

Sons of Anarchy Renewed for Season 6

Yes Sons of Anarchy fans, the FX show will be around through at least season six. Season five is back this fall, and now The Hollywood Reporter says the biker drama has definitely been renewed through season six – and it’s likely there will be a season seven which would wrap up the series.

FX’s decision is really not a surprise given the fact the dramatic series is the network’s highest-rated series.

According to THR, the news of the renewal comes on the heels of the network’s new three-year deal with Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter. And in an interview with THR, Sutter revealed, “There’s a part of me that does see being able to tell this story in seven seasons, but there’s a part of me that doesn’t want to say, ‘That’s it.'”

Sutter added, “If there’s more story to be told after seven seasons and if financially it’s still a feasible endeavor, I’m definitely open to doing more.”

‘The Hunger Games’ Trailer #2 with Jennifer Lawrence

Some people watch the Super Bowl for the football game and others do it basically to catch the commercials (and as an excuse to party). This year, Lionsgate Films is hoping Super Bowl audiences take some time out from drinking beer to check out the latest trailer for The Hunger Games, one of the most anticipated films of 2012.

Arriving in theaters on March 23rd, The Hunger Games is based on the first book in Suzanne Collins’ best-selling trilogy and is directed by Gary Ross.

The Plot:

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

The cast is led by Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth.

Movie Review: Big Miracle

Tim Blake Nelson and Drew Barrymore in 'Big Miracle'
Tim Blake Nelson and Drew Barrymore in 'Big Miracle' - Universal Pictures
Reviewed by Kevin Finnerty

“Three grey whales are now trapped in walls of ice six feet thick,” says reporter Adam Carlson (John Krasinski). He’s hoping he has found the story of his career that will finally help get him a job in a bigger market and out of the small town of Barrow, Alaska in the dramatic film, Big Miracle.

When Adam’s whale story ends up filling time on the NBC network nightly news, he gets a call from a Greenpeace volunteer – his ex-girlfriend, Rachel Kramer (Drew Barrymore), who insists there is something that can be done to save the whales. It’s not long before the little Alaskan town is invaded by news media looking to out-scoop each other, as well as other inspired citizens from all over to try to help save the whales from certain death. As interest in the plight of the whales grows, people from all over begin to get involved. From an oil tycoon (Ted Danson) to heads of state and the natives of the little town, everyone must work together and use all resources possible to rescue the struggling whales before time runs out.

Based on a true story, Big Miracle is an inspirational, family drama with a solid cast. Drew Barrymore is very effective as the overbearing, self-righteous Greenpeace volunteer who might be able to save the whales if she can only stop herself from insulting and infuriating everyone around who are also working to help the mammals. Ted Danson is wonderful as J.W. McGraw, the oil tycoon who’s constantly battling with Kramer for drilling rights but finds himself actually beginning to care about saving the trapped, suffering whales – and not just because of the good public relations he’s earning from aiding their struggle. John Krasinski and Kristen Bell give adequate performances as two young and eager reporters hoping to further their careers covering the story.

Involving and enjoyable, Big Miracle is a fun, feel-good family film that tells a worthwhile story that will have the audience rooting and cheering for the whales to make it to the open sea right up to the end.

GRADE: C+

Big Miracle hits theaters on February 3, 2012 and is rated PG for language.

Madonna Music Video: Give Me All Your Luvin

“Fans can make you famous, a contract can make you rich, the press can make you a superstar, but only luv can make you a player.”

Madonna’s new music video for “Give Me All Your Luvin'” (Feat. M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj) looks and sounds like something she would have come up with 20+ years ago. This is old-school Madonna and whether you’re a fan – or not – of this latest effort, you have to admit she looks damned good for 53.

Britney Spears + dance music + Twister = Twister Dance. Hasbro’s just announced Britney Spears’ participation in the new Twister Dance game that features current dance music but with a Twister twist. Spears even contributes a custom Twister remix of her “Till the World Ends” for the Hasbro game. Other tunes featured include tracks from Ke$ha and Willow Smith, and an exclusive song called “Caught Up in a Twister.”

“Dancing has been such an important part of my life since I was a little girl,” explained Britney Spears in the press release. “As soon as I saw the new Twister Dance game, I knew I wanted to be involved. I think kids will love rocking the spots and dancing to the music as much as my boys and I do. It’s a lot of fun!”

Spears is part of the game’s ad campaign and will be featured in dance instruction videos coming in the fall of 2012.

Per Hasbro:

The game invites kids to rock the spots by placing moveable Twister spots on the floor and then following the direction of the Twister Dance console. The Twister Dance console offers superior sound quality and bright, multi-color LED lights that light up to show dancers on which spots they should place their feet. Arm and hand movements are up to the dancers, allowing them to show off their individual style.
