The film screened at both the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals this year. IFC hasn’t announced a release date yet.
Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films, stated in the press release: “We are thrilled to be in business with Mary Harron who has made a very entertaining gothic tale that delivers chills while also managing to get at the heart of teenage relationships. We look forward to working with her and her entire team behind the film.”
Said Harron: “I am delighted to be working with IFC, who have such a wonderful track record and have released so many of my favorite films of the last few years.”
The Plot:
Adolescence is and always will be a time of intense emotional confusion, especially if you spend it in a closed environment. That’s the case with Rebecca (Bolger), a young girl haunted by her father’s suicide, who is a student at an exclusive female boarding school. She pours her heart out in a diary, much of it focused on Lucy, her beloved roommate. Their relationship changes drastically with the arrival of a mysterious new student, Ernessa (Cole). As Lucy abandons her for this new girl, Rebecca becomes consumed with thoughts of jealousy and suspicion–Ernessa is dangerous, evil, a vampire. Is there any truth to all this or is Rebecca slipping into insanity?

The Rapture Concert Video
The rapture in a bowling alley… Kind of sounds like A) a weird indie film, B) a sign outside a church, or C) notice that the group The Rapture is performing a concert in a bowling alley. Circle C and you’ve got the right answer.

Game of Thrones Season 2 Teaser – The Cold Winds are Rising
April 2012 can not get here soon enough. HBO has just teased us with another Game of Thrones season 2 video, and it’s far too short and doesn’t show much – but that’s okay. It’s Game of Thrones and that’s all that really matters.

LA Film Critics Name ‘The Descendants’ Best Picture

The Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) showed they’re still big fans of Alexander Payne’s work, handing the director his seventh award from the group by naming The Descendants best film of 2011. And in a departure from tradition, the group named Asghar Farhadi as the winner of the best screenplay award for A Separation, marking the first time the LAFCA has given that award to a foreign film.
“I think the diversity of the slate of our winners indicates the fact that there are a broad range of films this year that struck a chord with critics, in various ways,” stated Brent Simon, President of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. “In particular, our selections of Yun Jung-Hee’s lead performance for Poetry and Asghar Farhadi’s screenplay for A Separation show LAFCA’s continuing commitment to looking beyond its borders for the best performances and films of the year. Likewise, the Chemical Brothers’ bristling, innovative score for Hanna, which alternately gurgles, throbs and pulsates, sounding at times like a Madhatter’s rave, is exceptionally imaginative work that, like last year’s Best Music/Score selection of The Social Network’s soundtrack from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, expands upon staid notions of film scoring.”
The LAFCA’s awards ceremony will take place on January 13, 2012.

‘Men in Black 3’ First Trailer is Here
The first trailer for Men in Black 3, coming to theaters 10 years after Men in Black 2, has arrived! And after a decade off, do Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones still look good in black and, more importantly, do we care? The answer to the first part of that question is yes. We’ll have to wait until May 25, 2012 for the answer to the second part when moviegoers decide if they want to watch the Men in Black police alien visitors once again.

“Dexter finds that in order to catch the Doomsday Killers, he must create a macabre tableau of his own; Debra’s battle with LaGuerta over the case of the dead call girl boils over, and her therapist makes an unnerving suggestion.”
