The Hollywood Reporter’s reporting Kit Harington, one of my favorites on Game of Thrones (he’s ‘Jon Snow’), and Joel Kinnaman from The Killing – soon to be seen in Summit’s alien invasion thriller The Darkest Hour – are testing for Arthur & Lancelot. The project’s set up at Warner Bros with David Dobkin (The Change-Up) writing and directing.

According to THR, Harington and Kinnaman screen tested together which indicates they’ve made it pretty far in the casting process. Other names rumored to have read for the film include Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter star Ben Walker, Pirates of the Caribbean‘s Sam Clafin, One Day‘s Jim Sturgess, and The Hunger Games‘ Liam Hemsworth.

It’s unclear which roles Kinnaman and Harington are being considered for at this point, however THR says the decision should be made soon.

Coldplay Performs “Paradise” on ‘The Colbert Report’

Steve Colbert accused Coldplay frontman Chris Martin of stealing America’s Gwyneth, decided that his one Grammy and Coldplay’s seven averages out to both of them having four, and asked Martin if he was high when he tried to explain the group’s latest album’s name, Mylo Xyloto, on the October 20, 2011 episode of The Colbert Report. After replying he was just 17% high, the band performed “Paradise” off their new album.

‘Grimm’ Unveils a Behind the Scenes Video

“What if the Grimm fairy tales actually came to life and were living amongst us right now?” Producer Sean Hayes says that’s the set-up for the new NBC series Grimm debuting on Friday, October 28, 2011 at 9pm. The series will explore a different fairy tale every week, with episodes featuring Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Hansel and Gretel.

Grimm is a police drama with a bizarre twist, a fantasy series that takes place in our world but involves fairy tale creatures. Watch the behind-the-scenes video and see what you think.

The Synopsis: Remember the fairy tales your parents used to tell you before bedtime? Those weren’t stories — they were warnings. Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli, Turn The Beat Around) thought he prepared himself for the realities of working as a homicide detective until he started seeing things he couldn’t quite explain. When his ailing Aunt Marie (guest star Kate Burton, Grey’s Anatomy) arrives, Nick’s life turns upside down when she reveals they are descendants of an elite group of hunters, also known as “Grimms,” who fight to keep the balance of humanity safe from the supernatural creatures of the world.

As Nick digs deeper into her past, he realizes that he will have to shoulder the responsibility of his ancestors — and contend with a larger-than-life mythology of the Brothers Grimm that is now all too real.

Catherine Tate Returns to ‘The Office’

British comedian Catherine Tate will be reprising her role as Nellie Bertram this season on The Office, says NBC. The British Comedy Award winner will be joining the second half of the current season when her character is “hired by friend and Chairman of the Board Jo Bennett as a misguided special projects manager working directly for the corporate office and who very much enjoys the favoritism received from Bennett.”

Tate’s Bertram first appeared on the series when she applied for the job of regional manager after Michael Scott (Steve Carell) left.

“Catherine is hysterical. We introduced her briefly in last season’s finale and knew she had to be a part of the show somehow. We’ll meet her again as corporate’s special projects manager, and her relationship with Robert California (James Spader) will be far from professional. We’re thrilled that she’s joining the cast,” stated executive producer Paul Lieberstein in a press release announcing her return.

Tate’s acting credits include the multi-award-winning BBC series, The Catherine Tate Show, which showcased her chameleon-like talent for character transformation. In addition to playing Donna Noble (the Doctor’s companion) in the 4th series of BBC’s Doctor Who. Tate also co-starred in the feature films Gulliver’s Travels, Monte Carlo, Mrs. Ratcliffe’s Revolution, 66 and Starter for Ten.

Theatre work includes the lead role of Belinda in the National Theatre production Season’s Greetings and Beatrice in the West End production of Much Ado About Nothing, David Eldridge’s Under the Blue Sky, Some Girls and A Servant to Two Masters for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Tate wrote, directed and co-starred in the acclaimed short film My First Nativity for the Sky Little Cracker’s season. In addition to being the key writer for her own series, Tate has a feature script currently in development.

‘Johnny English Reborn’ Movie Review

Gillian Anderson and Rowan Atkinson in Johnny English Reborn

“MI-7 wants you on the first flight back to London,” so says Ting Wang, mentor to the ex-secret agent Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson) who’s been training in the desolate mountains in Asia since being dismissed by her Majesty’s secret service in the comedy film Johnny English Reborn.

A former CIA intelligence officer claims to have information that he’s only willing to share with English. That’s the one reason why MI-7’s chief, Pegasus (Gillian Anderson), is willing to reinstate English and send him to collect the information. When English meets the contact, Fisher (Richard Schiff), he learns of an assassination team planning on killing the Chinese Premier at a heads of state conference with a secret weapon.

With one shot at redemption and armed with the latest hi-tech gadgets, English sets out to uncover the identities of the three assassins with only one lead: each one was once a member of a government agency (CIA, KGB, and even MI-7).

Rowan Atkinson is perfect as the bumbling, inept secret agent English who only survives his missions and fights due to unbelievable luck and the help of his fellow agents. It’s a character reminiscent of Inspector Clouseau from the Pink Panther films. Gillian Anderson is very effective as Pegasus, the head of MI-7 who can barely tolerate English but has to in order to obtain crucial top-secret information to stop an assassination. Some of the funniest scenes are between her and Atkinson.

Johnny English Reborn is a fun action comedy sequel in the spirit of the Austin Powers films and the Get Smart television show. It spoofs classic spy films, especially the James Bond movies. The film has some very entertaining chase and fight scenes with a running gag of one particular killer who keeps popping up to eliminate English and just misses every time. Unfortunately, some of the jokes and sight gags are obvious and too silly. And due to some of the violence in the fight scenes and crude humor, the film is not appropriate for very young children.

In a year of many disappointing and forgettable comedies, Johnny English Reborn does exactly what every comedy should do – makes the audience laugh and smile.

GRADE: C+

Johnny English Reborn hits theaters on October 21, 2011 and is rated PG for mild action violence, rude humor, some language, and brief sensuality.

‘Margin Call’ Movie Review

Zachary Quinto and Penn Badgley in Margin Call

I’ve been told there’s some sort of financial crisis in America. Apparently, huge investment firms, banks, Wall Street, and other pillars of the economic system were pushing the boundaries of speculation and greed and didn’t stop until the dam burst. I know, I know. I have to work on my analogies.

In any case, and tongue firmly in cheek, it’s no secret that times are tough for people. Whether or not things could have been averted or eased is a moot point now, the goal is finding a way to move forward. However, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t learn from our mistakes or analyze how events unfolded. In the film world, a few documentaries have taken a look at the economic meltdown (a la Inside Job, Collapse, Capitalism: A Love Story) and it’s no surprise narrative films are also taking a stab at things; i.e., movies like Up in the Air, The Company Men, and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

Now add one more to the list with Margin Call. Written and directed by J.C. Chandor, the film explores a 48-hour period at a large investment firm as it discovers that the bubble is about to burst and how they decide to deal with the situation. The production boasts a star-studded cast including Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Zachary Quinto, Paul Bettany, Demi Moore, Stanley Tucci, and Simon Baker. Despite its well-known players, this isn’t some over-financed excuse for actors to garner award consideration. The budget was modest, and the entire affair has the intimacy of an independent film or stage play.

This works for and against the overall result. Purposefully avoiding a specific time period (could be anytime from 2004 to 2009) and not proclaiming the company to be one of the infamous brokerage firms we’ve all come to regard with various levels of disdain, the focus is instead on the human drama. What drives people in the economic fast lane to act as they do? Is there room for scruples in such a cutthroat industry? If they saw the collapse coming, what was more important – creating financial stability for the betterment of the system or looking out for shareholders and themselves?

The story highlights different ethical and moral standards via the hierarchy within this fictitious company. At the top, we have Irons, whose only interest is sparing the company and its shareholders from financial ruin, even at the cost of national/global economic stability. Spacey, Bettany, and Moore are all high-level execs playing the game to win, covering their asses but with varying measures of caution regarding how their actions will affect the big picture. Then there’s Tucci and Quinto, who are the ones to discover the end is nigh and do what they can to warn those above them that the sky is indeed about to fall (not literally though, this isn’t a Roland Emmerich film).

For better or worse, the story plays out like a procedural, all very linearly and clinically. On the negative side, there’s a completely overstated and unnecessary metaphor concerning Spacey’s sick dog that is so over-the-top that it’s almost comical. Also, the film suffers from multiple-ending syndrome, and I had to recheck the credits to make sure Steven Spielberg didn’t lend a hand in that regard. To its benefit though, the issues being explored and the acting performances are all interesting enough to watch – even though the subject matter is so topical and possibly traumatic that audiences may have trouble mustering up the willpower to see the film in the first place.

The only other nitpicking I’ll do concerns the almost overly dramatic tone that Chandor attempts to hold throughout the film. It was so thick and obvious in its intent that the biggest surprise of the proceedings is that they didn’t get Philip Glass to do the score.

Still, if you count yourself among those intrigued at getting a glimpse of how companies could extend themselves so far, bringing us to the economic juncture we’re at right now, Margin Call decently hits the mark. It could have been tightened up quite a bit, ended about ten minutes earlier, and toned down some of the archetypal clichés, but it managed to slightly surpass my relatively low expectations. Hmm, not sure that the last line will make the DVD cover.

GRADE: C+

Margin Call hits theaters on October 21, 2011 and is rated R for language.
