Arrested Development TV Series Returns and a Movie is Confirmed

The Bluths are coming back! Arrested Development‘s co-creator/executive producer Mitchell Hurwitz confirmed the Bluth clan will be back on the small screen before finally making the leap to a feature film. Arrested Development fans have been begging for a chance to see the Bluths back together again, but the rumored movie kept getting pushed back for one reason or another. Now it looks like there’s definitely movement on the project, with confirmation coming straight from the horse’s mouth.

Hurwitz made the announcement at the New Yorker Festival this past weekend, and Arrested Development‘s Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman) further confirmed the developments on Twitter. Writes Bateman: “It’s true. We will do 10 episodes and the movie. Probably shoot them all together next summer for a release in early ’13. VERY excited!”

Speaking at the ‘Bluth Family Reunion’ panel which included cast members Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Portia de Rossi, Tony Hale, David Cross, Jessica Walter, Jeffrey Tambor, Alia Shawkat, and Michael Cera, The New York Times reports Hurwitz revealed some new updates on the status of the Arrested Development film. “We’re trying to do a limited-run series into the movie,” said Hurwitz, adding, “We’re basically hoping to do nine or 10 episodes, with almost one character per episode.”

As to why it’s taken so long, Hurwitz explained, “We don’t completely own the property, there are business people involved and studios and that kind of thing. Just creatively, I have been working on the screenplay for a long time and found that as time went by, there was so much more to the story. In fact, where everyone’s been for five years became a big part of the story. So in working on the screenplay, I found even if I just gave five minutes per character to that back story, we were halfway through the movie before the characters got together.”

There’s no word yet on what network will air the limited run series or what studio will handle the feature film.

Hugh Jackman stars as an ex-fighter who trains robot boxers that have replaced men in the ring in Real Steel, an action drama from DreamWorks Pictures. And in this video courtesy of DreamWorks, Jackman discusses his character’s involvement in robot boxing, ‘Atom’ the boxer, the film’s robot characters and working with real robots, and training with Sugar Ray Leonard.

Real Steel will open in theaters on October 7, 2011.

The Plot: A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future, where the sport of boxing has gone hi-tech, Real Steel stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next.

When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.

Vince Vaughn and his producing partner Peter Billingsley (yes, the kid in A Christmas Story) are executive producing Sullivan and Son, a half hour comedy set up at TBS. The network has ordered a pilot episode written by and starring Steve Byrne. Executive producer/showrunner Rob Long co-wrote the pilot which is set to start shooting later this year.

According to TBS, “Sullivan and Son takes place in a popular and legendary neighborhood bar in a working-class neighborhood in Pittsburgh, Penn. Filled with locals and regulars, Sullivan & Son is the unofficial ‘town hall’ to the neighborhood.

Steve Sullivan (Byrne) is the son of the current owner of the bar and the grandson of its founder. His Irish-American father and his Korean-American mother never expected their son to leave his job as a successful corporate attorney in New York and return to the old neighborhood to take over Sullivan & Son. But that’s just what he’s done. And so begins Steve’s quest for a more meaningful and rewarding life behind the bar.”
