‘The Smurfs’ (2011) – Trailer, Cast, and Plot Details

Are you ready for the return of the weird blue creatures that add ‘smurf’ to everything they say? Ready or not, The Smurfs are back.

Neil Patrick Harris leads a cast that includes Jayma Mays, Hank Azaria, Sofia Vergara, Tim Gunn, Jonathan Winters, Katy Perry, and Alan Cumming. Fred Armisen, Anton Yelchin, Kenan Thompson, Jeff Foxworthy, John Oliver, Paul Reubens, BJ Novak, and George Lopez also star.

Directed by Raja Gosnell, the PG-13 comedy opens in theaters on July 29, 2011.

Official Synopsis: The Smurfs make their first 3D trip to the big screen in Columbia Pictures’/Sony Pictures Animation’s hybrid live-action and animated family comedy, The Smurfs. When the evil wizard Gargamel chases the Smurfs out of their village, they’re forced through a portal, out of their world and into ours, landing in the middle of New York’s Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.

‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’ Movie Preview

Steve Carell’s filling up his free time now that he’s done with The Office with starring roles in feature films, including Crazy, Stupid, Love. The PG-13 rated romantic comedy also stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

Directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, the rom-com’s cast also includes Julianne Moore, Marisa Tomei, Jonah Bobo, John Carroll Lynch, Kevin Bacon, and Analeigh Tipton. Josh Groban, Liza Lapira, Beth Littleford, and Joey King also star.

Crazy, Stupid, Love opens in theaters on July 29, 2011.

Official Synopsis: At fortysomething, straight-laced Cal Weaver (Carell) is living the dream–good job, nice house, great kids and marriage to his high school sweetheart. But when Cal learns that his wife, Emily (Moore), has cheated on him and wants a divorce, his “perfect” life quickly unravels. Worse, in today’s single world, Cal, who hasn’t dated in decades, stands out as the epitome of un-smooth.

Now spending his free evenings sulking alone at a local bar, the hapless Cal is taken on as wingman and protege to handsome, thirtysomething player Jacob Palmer (Gosling). In an effort to help Cal get over his wife and start living his life, Jacob opens Cal’s eyes to the many options before him: flirty women, manly drinks and a sense of style that can’t be found at Supercuts or The Gap.

Cal and Emily aren’t the only ones looking for love in what might be all the wrong places: Cal’s 13-year-old son, Robbie, is crazy about his 17-year-old babysitter, Jessica, who harbors a crush on Cal. And despite Cal’s makeover and his many new conquests, the one thing that can’t be made over is his heart, which seems to keep leading him back to where he began.

‘Cowboys and Aliens’ – Trailer, Photos and Cast

Based on a graphic novel and directed by Iron Man helmer Jon Favreau, Cowboys and Aliens is a weird mix of genres. And even if you’re not into the source material, the fact Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford star in this Western-ish alien film should put it on your radar.

The sci-fi action film also stars Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell, Adam Beach, Paul Dano, Clancy Brown, Abigail Spencer, and Chris Browning. Ana de la Reguera, Noah Ringer, Keith Carradine, Toby Huss, Walton Goggins, David O’Hara, and Raoul Trujillo also star.

The PG-13-rated film opens in theaters on July 22, 2011.

Official Synopsis: 1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It’s a town that lives in fear.

But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.

Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents – townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws, and Apache warriors – all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.

Friends with Benefits isn’t the first movie to use the set-up of friends becoming sexual without being in a romantic relationship. It’s not even the first movie released in 2011 with that plotline (that honor goes to No Strings Attached). But it does feature a couple of charismatic actors who could help win over skeptical audiences.

Mila Kunis stars as Jamie, Justin Timberlake is Dylan, Patricia Clarkson plays Lorna, Jenna Elfman is Annie, Bryan Greenberg is Parker, and Richard Jenkins is Mr Harper. The cast also includes Woody Harrelson as Tommy, Emma Stone as Kayla, Nolan Gould as Sam, Andy Samberg as Quincy, and Masi Oka as Darin Arturo Morena.

Will Gluck directed the R-rated romantic comedy opening in theaters on July 22, 2011.

Official Synopsis: Dylan (Justin Timberlake) and Jamie (Mila Kunis) think it’s going to be easy to add the simple act of sex to their friendship, despite what Hollywood romantic comedies would have them believe. They soon discover however that getting physical really does always lead to complications.

Chris Evans has starred in action films before, but this time he carries the load as Captain America in Captain America: The First Avenger. Sebastian Stan joins him as Bucky Barnes and Hayley Atwell stars as Peggy Carter.

The action drama also features Hugo Weaving as Red Skull, Tommy Lee Jones as US Army Colonel Chester Phillips, Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, Toby Jones as Arnim Zola, and Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury.

Directed by Joe Johnston, the PG-13 film opens in theaters on July 22, 2011.

Official Synopsis: Captain America: The First Avenger will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull (Hugo Weaving.)




‘Winnie the Pooh’ (2011) – Trailer, Cast, and Plot

The adorable chubby bear’s back with a new adventure that feels decidedly old-school. Jim Cummings even returns to voice Winnie the Pooh.

The voice cast also includes Craig Ferguson as Owl, Tom Kenny as Rabbit, Travis Oates as Piglet, Bud Luckey as Eeyore, and Jack Boulter as Christopher Robin. Kristen Anderson-Lopez voices Kanga, Wyatt Dean Hall is Roo, Huell Howser is Backson, and John Cleese is the narrator.

Stephen J. Anderson and Don Hall directed the family-friendly G-rated animated film. Winnie the Pooh is set to open in theaters on July 15, 2011.

Official Synopsis: Walt Disney Animation Studios returns to the Hundred Acre Wood with Winnie the Pooh, the first big-screen Pooh adventure from Disney Animation in more than 35 years. With the charm, wit and whimsy of the original featurettes, this all-new movie reunites audiences with the philosophical “bear of very little brain” and friends Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Kanga, Roo — and last, but certainly not least – Eeyore, who has lost his tail.

“Well, a tail is either there or it isn’t there,” said Pooh. “And yours isn’t… there.”  Owl sends the whole gang on a wild quest to save Christopher Robin from an imaginary culprit. It turns out to be a very busy day for a bear who simply set out to find some hunny.

The Harry Potter franchise wraps up with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 which brings to life the second half of the final book of the series.  The final film is also the first of the series to be released in 3D.

Directed by David Yates, Deathly Hallows Part 2 stars Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger, Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley, Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood, Bonnie Wright as Ginny Weasley, and Matthew Lewis as Neville Longbottom. Alan Rickman stars as Severus Snape, Michael Gambon is Professor Dumbledore, Robbie Coltrane is Hagrid, Tom Felton is Draco Malfoy, and Maggie Smith is Minerva McGonagall.

Helena Bonham Carter plays Bellatrix Lestrange, Ralph Fiennes is Lord Voldemort, Jason Isaacs is Lucius Malfoy, James Phelps is Fred Weasley, Oliver Phelps is George Weasley, and Julie Walters is Molly Weasley. The cast also includes Mark Williams as Arthur Weasley, Clemence Poesy as Fleur Delacour, David Thewlis as Remus Lupin, Natalia Tena as Nymphadora Tonks, Warwick Davis as Flitwick, and Domhnall Gleeson as Bill Weasley.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is rated PG-13 and will be released in theaters on July 15, 2011.

Official Synopsis: In Part 2 of the epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the Wizarding world escalates into an all-out war. The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe. But it is Harry Potter who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort. Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy helms this action film which had a sequel in development six months before the film’s release. DreamWorks must believe audiences really want to see robots battle each other on the big screen.

Alamo Drafthouse Angry Texter Rants About Being Kicked Out

As someone who has to see at least one movie per week, all I can do is express my thanks to the folks at Alamo Drafthouse for this video. After they booted out an obnoxious patron who wouldn’t stop texting after being warned to turn off her phone, she left a very angry message on their answering machine.

Instead of deleting the message, Alamo Drafthouse turned it into a public service announcement.
