AMC Networks has set a January 5, 2023* premiere date for Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches. The series will mark the second adaptation of Rice’s work to be introduced on the network following the debut of Interview with the Vampire starring Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones) as Louis de Pointe du Lac and Sam Reid (The Newsreader) as Lestat de Lioncourt on October 2, 2022.
The premiere date was announced during the series’ panel at the New York Comic Con. NYCC attendees were also the first to see the official trailer for the supernatural drama starring Alexandra Daddario, Jack Huston, Tongayi Chirisa, and Harry Hamlin.
Esta Spalding (Masters of Sex, On Becoming a God in Central Florida) is the showrunner, writer, and executive producer. In addition, Michelle Ashford (Masters of Sex, The Pacific) writes and executive produces, with Mark Johnson also executive producing.
The first season will consist of eight episodes.
Anne Rice’s The Lives Of The Mayfair Witches trilogy consists of The Witching Hour, Lasher, and Taltos. Per AMC Networks, Mayfair Witches “focuses on an intuitive young neurosurgeon, Rowan (Daddario), who discovers that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches. As she grapples with her newfound powers, she must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.”
“The world of witches has fascinated and terrified for centuries, and yet Anne Rice’s particular lens on witches explored something new altogether – women who are powerful, and often brutal and always committed to subverting our current power structures,” explained Spalding and Ashford. “We are so excited to join our partners AMC and Gran Via Productions in making this mysterious and provocative world come to life.”
