You’ve got to feel sorry for the fine folks at the San Diego Comic-Con. The Covid-19 pandemic shut the popular convention down in 2020, and it was forced into holding a much smaller convention – the “Comic-Con Special Edition” – in November 2021 after being unable to host its normal summertime pop culture event safely. SDCC returned in 2022, but with strict Covid protocols in place.
2023 was thought to be the year the San Diego Comic-Con would spring back to life. But that wasn’t in the cards. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike, which meant many panel participants wouldn’t be able to attend. And then complicating matters, the Screen Actors Guild voted to authorize a strike if they couldn’t come to an agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).
If the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) can’t reach a deal by midnight on July 12, 2023, a strike would shut down productions and prohibit actors from participating in publicity, including appearing at the San Diego Comic-Con. Given the fluid state of affairs, the following list of television panels scheduled to take place July 20-23 could drastically change.

THURSDAY, JULY 20th
4th Annual Hollywood Game Changers: A Conversation with the Women Behind Popular Film and TV Projects – 11am, Room 7AB
“Hollywood Game Changers” is back with a powerhouse of women leading the charge behind your favorite film and television projects. Featuring makeup department head Alisha L. Ninth Annual Musical Anatomy of a Superhero: Film and TV Composer Panel – 11:15am, Indigo Ballroom, Hilton Bayfront
Moderated by Michael Giacchino (The Batman, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Thor: Love & Thunder), leading Hollywood composers Christophe Beck (Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania), Laura Karpman (The Marvels, Ms. Marvel, What If . . . ?), Benjamin Wallfisch (The Flash, Shazam!), Christopher Lennertz (The Boys, Agent Carter), and David Russo (Gotham Knights, Pennyworth, Gotham) discuss the challenges of creating the musical landscape of the superhero genre. Join the Ghosts ‘fan-ily’ reunion at the San Diego Convention Center. The event will be hosted by TV host, journalist, “Talking Strange” podcast host Aaron Sagers and will treat fans to a ‘lively’ debate with fans on just who got ‘sucked off’ in this year’s cliffhanger, plus surprises specific to this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. The presentation will also screen the season two finale, a video featurette showcasing the past two seasons and an exclusive SDCC behind-the-scenes presentation from CBS Sunday Morning, which was on-set earlier this year.

Set in mythical ancient Greece, Krapopolis tells the story of a dysfunctional family of humans, gods, and monsters that try their hand at running the world’s first cities—without trying to kill each other, that is.
